I was in, perfectly fine until I went to bed around 4:30. I woke up 40 minutes ago at 8AM EDT and now I'm getting error 42 as well. Hoping they get it taken care of soon, I'm raring to go!

What it comes down to imho is money. Why setup more servers to facilitate the huge launch masses then have to shut them down a week later. I haven't a clue how much a server costs to setup and operate, but its got to be steep. It's only sensible to look in the near future at what they view as affordable and can handle players at a certain point down the road. Here is an article and if you scroll down to "The Truth Behind The Curtains", it kind of describes what I'm suggesting. Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

I had my suspicions this would happen during the head start, just because of the incredible amount of people trying to log in to the servers all at once. I am glad I decided to skip the head start and just purchase the game on launch. |

Of course, these days, a majority, if not a supermajority, of the "launch" players begin at headstart, and not "official launch". Especially in a game like this where it costs nothing extra. If you were the kind who wanted to play at launch, you likely pre-purchased and are in the headstart, so really the headstart is basically "launch", and "official launch" is a much softer event, in terms of the server impact. |

It's not a failure, for them it's a complete success, they already got paid.

Originally posted by nickster29 meh, I got 4 hours of good solid play! If I quit now it cost me $15 an hour and in most cases that is cheap entertainment for the buck! I'd rather be given a slim chance to play rather than none at all. ! :) Go buy the game and play it!

Originally posted by ictown Why would someone go to the opening show of Batman if they weren't a fanboy of Batman? You are like the guy in the line for the opening show of batman complaining about the line. Anyone who is a true fanboy of Batman knows the line will be long and painful, and anyone who is not knows not to go to the opening show! Prepurchase is for fanboys. A fanboy is someone for whom the glitches seem trivial next to the awesomeness of the game and so they are willing to put up with them and wait in line. If the glitches make you angry, then you aren't a fanboy. If you're not a fanboy, you really don't have any business prepurchasing a game except to play beta (which was great!). Sure, they don't include a warning label alongside prepurchase informing us that there may be launch problems . . . they don't warn you that you might have to camp outside the theater for the opening show of Batman in order to get a good seat either. There is no excuse for not knowing that there are going to be issues at launch, everyone who plays MMOs knows there are always issues at launch. That is why, again, you really should only prepurchase if you are a fanboy, otherwise you will just be frustrated by the glitches. |

Originally posted by benit59 Well I must have been lucky and you not so much! :) My son and his wife sat next to me, and my second son in another part of the US played. I am so glad I have other things in my life now besides a video game. This nerd rage for a game is hysterical. Do something else with your day! Go outside! It's still August, it's still nice outside, students still have no classes (well, most). Go do something with your life. Even if it's only until GW2 gets this sorted out. |

Originally posted by Amjoco Exactly. And , of course, it isn't just the cost, closing down servers and focing players to transfer is extremely hard on players who have to leave their server community and character names behind. A more difficult launch is better for the game and the players in the long run. Players will forget this launch, but they won't forget dwindling populations and forced server transfers, Arenanet is making the smart choice all around. |
