built this cpu a few weeks ago: i5-3570k msi radeon 7870 asrock z77 extreme4 crucial m4 128gb ssd corsair hx750 psu g.skill 8gb ram asus vh236h monitor windows 7 it was working fine about a week or so ago. then i shipped it 2 day shipping from NJ to AZ. just got it and hooked it up, plugged it in and for the dvi connection on my monitor the screen is all white with some thin red lines on it. so i try the hdmi connection and the computer turns on and then goes to the windows loading screen but gets stuck there or screen goes black. i just used this monitor on another computer and it worked fine. i tried my computer with a second monitor and i am getting the same issues which leads me to believe its either an issue with my video card or maybe even the ssd. like i said i do get to the windows 7 loading part where it shows the windows 7 logo with the colorful squares. can any help me troubleshoot this please? will try anything. thanks |

Well, first, we could certainly try to figure out if it's the graphics card or the harddrive. You said you have another computer that you plugged the monitor into and it worked, so can you try to switch the harddrives? And if it works then, you know it's the harddrive that's messed up. If it doesn't work, then try switching video cards, and see what happens then.

1. im no expert. 2. re-seat all of the hardware. remove the card, and put it back in. remove the ram and put it back in. check the hard drive connections .. just check all of the connections, internal and external. (dont re-seat the processor (or at least wait till someone smarter than me tells you to re-seat the processor)) LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity. |

So your computer was working before you shipped it? Is it possible for you to boot in safe mode? Do you have a windows boot cd? Can you boot with that and perform system repair? Maybe your system was damaged during shipping or maybe something just came loose. Before you try anything else remove your video card and place it back it again making sure it fits securely. Especially make sure that the power cable is connected to your graphics card. Check all the other cables and connections inside your computer too. Sorry, I probably won't be able to reply again after this but I thought I might offer some suggestions. I hope you get your problem fixed tho. Best of luck.

Well, you built your own computer, so I'm going to assume a certain level of know how here. Try booting into safe mode, see if it's a windows error. Your motherboard has onboard video, so you can also take the video card out, plug the monitor into the motherboard and see what happens. If it's the hard drive, you can try booting to a command prompt and running a chkdsk. Honestly, I'm not as familiar with SSD's yet, so I'm not sure if that works quite as well on those. But I imagine something's up with the video card anyway. |

Yes it's very possible something has come loose during shipping. Open the case up, re-seat everything (memory, GPU, etc), make sure everything is connected properly. It's also very possible something was damaged during shipping. LIke it's been said, try changing out parts to determine what went bad.

Make sure all the power supply cords are plugged into where they need to go. Maybe there is dust so try and clean it.

Thanks for the replies all still working on it. Currently am able to run windows safe mode. I am downloading the 12.8 amd driver to see if that does anything for me. As far as I can tell all the wires are securely connected.

I am not an expert, but i saw 2 monitors were having issues with wire(PC to Monitor), so maybe you should check this wire. When wire was damaged, sometimes when you touch wire there were red/green/yellow colours and sometimes normal. |

Try booting windows in VGA mode. Same menu as where you start safe mode. If it comes up then change resoulution to what you want.

Relax! I know you are eager, but Tyria won't run away! If you can run on safe mode, you may need a reinstall of windows or check the harddisk. In DOS times it was CHKDSK. Not sure how it goes with Windows 7, I am still at XP. Maybe the harddisk has some errors on some sectors. Virus check may be possible. It hadn't come out of the drive, but it was loose enough to not be connected anymore. |
