it's only a matter of days until people will discover this game is not the second coming. Anyone remembering the TOR hype...? It's sad when reality hits one month after release. It won't be anything different with Gw2, except it's already gone F2P, not 9 months after release like TOR |

We usually know in three months how things are going long-term for these games - so December. If things are looking great for Xmas time, they're doing fine.

truth be told, it will never fail, just as GW1 hasn't. why? because it doesn't have a sub. You buy the game, if you're satisfied...win, no fail. Down the road there will be expansions we will buy, maybe you can make a case then. For now, pretty much everyone playing has bought the game and are satisfied, there is no sub to keep asking the question.
er... the genre was born of Dungeons and Dragons, with a smidgen of ShadowRun and WarCraft. The genre will always be fantasy RPG based in everything it does. To be honest we have sci-fi games, we have superhero games, we have war games.. we actually have a tremendous amount of other-than-fantasy mmos currently, but they are all niche games at best. 2 of the last 3 major games released were sci-fi, but the numbers supporting those type of games don't equate nor represent anything long lasting, as that crowd will always find a better game to their liking in the FPS market (minus EVE, who holds the majority of that true mmo populace). You also have PS2 and DayZ on the horizon, 20 years? really? |

Originally posted by Misaris the Tor hype was actually built on misinformation from the Devs interviews themselves actually whereas Anet has kept people in the know and revealed just about everything. (not the island of Orr sadly) but everything else. And the devs aren't sitting around telling us that we'll be doing things we've never done before EVAR or that the combat is so awesome the game will make us poop light sabers which pretty much sums up the interviews I've seen prelaunch of TOR of the head of their dev team. So there IS a huge difference there. oversimplifying things really doesn't help your case much. |

Originally posted by Horusra It's clear and present baiting that's why it should be locked. If they went and locked every GW2 bait thread as fast as they did TOR threads that were well thought out and had evidence to back up the claims of the posters when TOR was launching, this thread would have had 1 reply before locking and the OP being banned for life. |

Originally posted by itgrowls First of all they left plenty of threads stating SWTOR was going to fail opened. However, I will agree that usually if it was something as generic and obvious bait material as this topic it did normally get locked. Many of the type you mentioned were left open much to the chagrin of the fans of the game. Some I agreed with others I didn't. Not sure why this one is being left open considering how vapid it is.. ...and they rarely ban an account completely. You have to do something pretty heinous to get that. I should know seeing how they've been banning me about once a week now for...quite some time. 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. well the masses will likely play this game for a few months then move on, so i am guessing a few months?
the days of playing the same game for years are over, at least these new "theme park" type games.
