Just started downloading the game, yah yah I know, should of done it weeks ago.
My internet isn't the greatest, but not that bad. Approx avg 350 kb/sec....Looks like its gonna take days. Anyone have a time estimate with that speed taken into consideration? |

Hmmm, going to be a-w-h-i-l-e. Cant give you the exact time, but you can do the math. The client is 17GB+ at 350kb/s. Keep your connection open now until launch and you should be good.... granted there are not any more updates (had a 4MB update today).

I don't know if any of this logic is correct, but I'll give it a go: Size of my GW2 folder is 14.5GB 14.5 * 1000 * 1000 = 14,500,000 kb 14500000 / 350 = 41,429 seconds 41,429 / 60 / 60 = 11.5 hours
That sound right? |

Yea, I remember originally downloading when it was still ~5Gb, it's only gotten bigger and bigger since so I can't give you an accurate. Ensure you have it setup per the Arenanet FAQ so it resumes correctly if you do lose connection.

Along these lines, anyone happen to know the answer to this? My new system is arriving tomorrow, and I really don't feel like downloading the whole client again. It would probably take about 2.5 to 3 hours on my connection, but that's not considering the flood of people all trying to download it at the same time tomorrow. I'd just like to copy the client from my old to new computer. Is this possible? It would be the same drive letter and folder, but going from a 32 to a 64 bit system. Would the laucher detect all the files are there already, or would I have to download everything from scratch again? |

The launcher seems to front load large files so you may not have to wait as long. I say this because when patching last night, roughly 4700 files, it took 10 minutes to get to 2% then flew through the rest. I was fluctuating between 150k and 3M frantically.
Either way you should be good for early launch. Dear developers, In my humble and inexperienced opinion if I can get through all the content you spent the last 5+ years working on within 6 months you have not done your work justice. Please give me, and everyone else, some tools to create our own content from what you have made so I can stay in your world and appreciate it longer than three weeks before I say "meh". It's a shame and I'd rather not do that to something you put so much of yourself in to. |
