Seriously who gives a review based on one hour? I will tell you three things good and bad that stood out to me though. Oh and insert "It seems" before every point.
The Good Polish - Runing down sides of hills and jumping on fenses felt right. I had the feeling driving a well built car.
Big Busy World - I felt as if I could go to what ever point I was looking at off in the distance. Everywhere I looked there was something going on not to far away.
Performance - Really smooth. No fps studder even on my lower middle end rig.
The Bad Avatar/Role - Being a necromancer from the streets, blessed by the god of death, I seemed all to happy to take orders and assist. Plus my mean old necro sounded like a 24 year old athlete... Voice options would be nice or an option to have no voice at all.
Hearts - After 5 minutes I wondered why they put them in the game. Yes I know why, but still...
Control - At times my mouse felt sluggish. Not all the time, but very noticiable when it was.
These were the things that stood out and were pretty cut and dry in my first hour. I'll just leave it at that for now.
DamonVile- Games built for disposable players are now apparently built by disposable employees. |

glad you seemed to enjoy your first hour:)
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg |

this is really your first time playing? i figured you had tried it before on account of how you talked about certain aspects over on TSW forum. |

Originally posted by bcbully I'm glad you enjoyed your experience. I have had no complaints about the Beta's. Just a word of warning. You have just now said something positive about gw2, which according to every troll, flamer, or person who just feels like causing trouble makes you a Fanboi. It's war on the forums my friend, hope you have a stout heart. |

Originally posted by Halandir This is why I prefer no voice, which is how TSW does it. I didn't like it in TOR either. However, it's not that big of a deal in the big scheme of things. |

Yeah no voice is better
Half life, skyrim, tsw But I won't really be playing gw2 for the pve anyway. The woefully ignored perpetuum aside, its the best pvp game since eve / planetside. |

Originally posted by bcbully When I first started up the game I noticed a lot of sluggishness in the mouse as well. It turns out, the default setting for the screen rotation in the control panel is really quite slow for some reason, but you can make it more responsive. I shifted the slider up to about half, and the problem cleared right up. Hope that helps! Reality Bites. I'm only Barking |

My biggest complaint is with the mouse control too. It may seem like a small issue to some but I really hate that I can not zoom in and out while holding the right mouse button. Not sure if that is a camera bug or not. The rest seems solid!

Originally posted by MindTrigger I thought no voice is good too... until I played PSO2.... around 20 different actors just for female to choose from, categorized by character (shy, brave, wild etc.) + every voice had a slider that adjusted it's tone. Brilliant, even I found voice and attitute that was perfect for my taste. No voice is ok, but personalized voice.. awesome. Of course, only combat voice was there, not dialogues. |

Hearts - After 5 minutes I wondered why they put them in the game. Yes I know why, but still...
They literally put these in because people needed direction, which is sad. They become much faster later on I've noticed. |

Originally posted by bcbully I see your point, but keep in mind your profession is necromancer. Wise words from Fight Club, "You're not your job."
As to the voice option being limited- very true, but the personal story is a minor portion of the experience from what I've seen. Coming from the superior voice-acting of the NPC monologues in TSW to the amature-sounding voiced cut-scenes in GW2 was a stark difference at first. Yet, after making 6 new characters and watching those same scenes over and over they started to grow on me, and the voices that came across as cheesy (that red-eyed female guard you first speak with in human tutorial) now strike me as sincere and not immersion-breaking.
Being able to choose the relative age of your character during creation would be a nice touch, one I don't recall seeing implemented in the mmo's I've played. LotRO had an age selection after the fact for making familial connections, but It had no accompaning visual or audio changes. Would be nice feature for immersion and RP purposes.
Originally posted by bcbullyI notice this when trying to rotate my screen with dragging right-click, it feels delayed and less responsive than I would prefer. Might be a slider to adjust such a thing, but I don't want my mouse zipping around and the rotation hadn't bothered me enough to look for it yet. |
