Originally posted by Aerowyn so true, that is why I have no problem pay $15 a month for so much entertainment. Most single player games last me 10-25 hours. Even a MMO that I only play for a month I will play for 60 hours in that month. For some reason I can play MMO's for 8hrs at a time (if I have the free time), single player games I play 1 hour at a time and get bored. Lotro is the MMO I played the most, although I do buy them all. I just did a /played on my main. I did the math and on that one toon I have played 1,428 hours! (I have 3 other toons at level cap) Now that is value ($10/month). |

Originally posted by vtravi Eh, I can think of MMOs that made me feel abused and taken advantage of some point before I quit. I don't think MMOs are a very efficient source of fun, generally speaking. I mean, I played FFXI for half a year or more and so much of the "play" was time spent getting from A to B. City of Heroes I didn't play much due to its shallowness. WoW I only played for longer because it is a bit more clever than others. That said, most normal games that come out are filled with a lot more fun per minute than any MMO...because most MMOs aren't designed to max fun, but instead to max the amount of money they can get from you. Big difference. Not that I don't have problems with a lot of the single-player games these days. Eh, a lot of companies are trying to monetize everything at a detriment to their game. Ugh. |

Bought SWToR and had tons of frustrating fun with it. (not really that bad as its made out to be... you just have to have a good guild) Bought TERA... played for about a week and then it got boring. What good is "true action combat" if the attacks are boring and movement during hits is slow as all hell? (Berseker) Skipped TSW. Will try it some time, I think. And of course I have GW2. :P

I Bought: Swtor Tera GW2
Was thinking on buying TSW, but saved my money for GW2. Was worried that TSW would have as "poor" endgame as Swtor :P I might buy MOP later on, well that depends on GW2. For some reason, I always seemed to return toWOW when i got tired with the other games. I agree and understand the most "hatred" against wow, but that game still holds some of my best gaming memories. Hopefully GW2 will now become my new "fallback" game ;) Anarchy Online,Star Wars Galaxies,WOW,Eve,Darkfall,Vanguard, Fallen Earth, Dungeons Dragons Online,SWTOR,GW2 and Tera Now playing Darkfall Unholy Wars beta! |

I buy most every mmo since it's my biggest hobby. Even if I don't plan to play the game much I at least want to see how it works in practice. The first few hours in even a bad mmo is worth a lot to me.

I'm even so crazy that if the mmo is an AAA title I make sure to hit max level even if don't really like the game. Just so I can check that particular game from my list.

I regretably bought TSW. I played TERA beta and knew the game was not for me. Passed on it. I played the TOR beta and knew almost instantly that the game would never be for me. Took a pass on it as well. I played TSW beta and really didn't like it either, but I have a couple buds who were going apeshit over it so I picked it up when I saw it on preorder for 37 bucks. Lasted 2 weeks and really had to push hard to last that long... GW2 beta and stress tests have been a complete change of pace over these other options. I thoroughly enjoy this game from minute one straight on through the hours I've played. Can't wait til tomorrow at midnight!

I tried TOR and TERA. TOR's only great moment was the first flashpoint, but unfortunately it's also the best flashpoint. I decided to avoid it. TERA's questing was so horrible I stopped playing before my week long trial was over. I'm still going to buy TSW after I've played GW2 for a couple of months. I would buy it now, but I know I'm going to be pre-occupied in the upcoming weeks. So I haven't bought any of them yet, but will probably buy TSW. |

I brought TSW, also picked up GW2 cheap.. I still think TSW is the best MMORPG to be released for a long time.. picked up GW2 so i could do some PVP with my guild.. |

I played SWTOR beta and I wasn't impressed so I skipped it, felt to generic I played TSW beta and I was impressed, however the Guild Wars 2 effect made me think "Wouldn't it be better if TSW was like ____" so I skipped that too Never bothered with Tera, however good the combat system might be it is a korean grinder and I hate them so much Block the trolls, don't answer them, so we can remove the garbage from these forums |

The only other box purchase I've made this year is Diablo 3. If GW2 gives me anywhere near as much entertainment as D3 this will be the best year for games in a looooong time.

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this. |

I didn't buy any of those three, must admit... I think it was because I got to see them all in beta before hand and saw what they were. The last MMORPG box I actually paid for tbh was Aion at launch. Oh, and GW2 ofc, which I am very happy to say has worked out so far :) |

Originally posted by Drachasor I agree mostly with Drachasor. An MMO will almost certainly yield a higher time played/dollar ratio, but there's a huge difference between the hours of busy work in an MMO and usually non-stop fun gameplay of single player games. I can certainly commiserate with you about FFXI. Very little of that game actually consisted of gameplay that was fun in its own right. I would estimate that over 98% of my time in that game was decidedly not fun (running, grinding mobs for hours, running, crafting blindly and breaking mats, running, camping NMs, traveling, and more running.) But I suffered through it in the name of progression: leveling up, unlocking chocobos, airships, keys to certain areas, sub jobs, artifact armor. I never felt like I was being led by a carrot on a stick more than in FFXI. The best thing I got out of FFXI was perspective--an understanding of what I definitely do not want in my MMO. And I actually played it for a year and a half, mistakenly thinking I was enjoying it! Funny how progression grinds can trick you. No, I do not believe that the ratio of hours played:dollar spent is the only imporant stat in determining whether or not a game was "worth it." |

I played all 3 of those, which was the reason why I didn't buy them. I would never buy an MMO without getting hands-on experience.

I stopped playing SWTOR, but I don't regret buying it at all. I had fun for a few months, and it was well worth the cost. What more can you ask?

What about poeple who bought SWTOR or TSW but probably won't buy GW2 and wait for the next game instead?

they should be posting in a relevant topic on the board for "the next game". |
