The pen is mightier than the sword if the sword is very short, and the pen is very sharp. |

Originally posted by elocke Yeah. This is exactly why I am 'on board'. I think it will live up to the hype but I am almost 100% certain it will be THE game for me, regardless of what it does for everyone else. Something which I have not had happen in a very long time indeed. |

Hmm I think about 75% if not more of the hype is from people that played GW2 through beta and stress test's. I personally don't care if it live's up to all the hype as it met my expectation's for a fun game, and beat the reasonable expectation's into a bloody twitching pulp lol. I must say I'm rather astonished that people hate on the game because other people say it a great game (hype it up).
Me personally i'm hella excited for the 25th!!! :D |

Originally posted by kalrhael You know, it is possible to have a highly informed opinion of a game's likely success or failure. I've given caveats leading up to launch for all the MMOs I've beta tested before launch as to whether or not the game has what it takes for the longhaul and if not, how long I expect the average person to play before they start to lose interest. I thiunk I've been pretty close on just about all of them. There was one I saw as having huge potential for great success and actually saw myself playing for a year or more. That game was WoW. I saw SWTOR as having potential, but cut my odds on that one when the developers made some really bad design changes right before launch. I still thought it would be a game I'd probably find interesting for six months or so and that about how far me and my guildmates actually got before enthusiasm started to fade. I also saw a lot of potential for Eve Online, though I guessed to it would be niche enough that it would enjoy steady, but moderate, success, in spite of the fact that I knew it wasn't a game that was really for me personally. Most of the rest had, what to me, were easily identifiable flaws that would limit their success and lead to steep drops in population starting a couple months in. I've been right on all of them. When you've been around the genre for almost 14 years, you can actually develop a feel for these things. GW2 gives me fvery much the same feeling that WoW game me during beta and I predict GW2 will be the most successful post-WoW AAA Western MMORPG to date. That's not based on developer buzz, fan buzz, or uninformed judgements of the game. That's based on an actual understanding of the why's and hows of the game's design, plus almost 150 hours of play testing. So, in a few weeks, I'll be deep into the game, enjoying the hell out of it and being glad I had a head start of a few weeks on the masses of late arrivals to the game that didn't dare to believe GW2 was the real deal and warranting of a pre-purchase or launch day start.
