So I decided to see how the game is now that it has a FTP to level 15. It seems to have a world like FF14. Everything that I have seen so fat is very tunnel like where you can go back and forth, but there is no going left or right much. Is the entire game like this, or does it open up when you get off the starter world. Also can someone explain why the begining of the game has all of those long CG cut scenes that have nothing to do with agame play. It seemed kind of silly to me. |

Get used to invisible walls, exhaustion zones, and red force fields blocking your path on just about every planet. "Whoa look at that cave up there!" Wife and I got through the storyline and cancelled. The most claustrophobic mmo I've ever experienced. Themepark is not a sub genre, its an excuse. |

lol.
I can't tell if you're serious, but either outcome will be a nice LOL.
The cutscenes have nothing to do with the actual game. This was established during advertisements for the game.
The whole game is linear and you will get funneled into whatever content exists for your story.
As for FFIV, the game needs a good revamp like this. Game engine is horrid, customer service needs to be replaced, game designers need to be replaced, and the whole vertical progression of SWTOR leads to a "been there", "done that" feeling. It's too much like every other WoW clone.
Good enough answer? Want a nice understanding of life? Try Spirit Science: "The Human History" |

The entire game is funneled? That does not seem like a very good idea for an MMO. That is kind of surprising. I know DA and ME are very funneled, and I guess I should have seen that coming, but it still does not make sense to make a MMO world the same way you make a single player game world.
I am not calling you a liar, but I just find it hard to beleive a company could actually make an MMO and not have large open areas. A field is more fun than a hallway and a giant room is more fun than a closet.
Hopefully someone else will come along with some information about a world that is more open in this game. |

It's true. Keep in mind this was BioWare's first MMO. They tried to take the things that they did well, and build an MMO around them. Linear storytelling, full VO, conversation wheel, etc. To be fair, BioWare never promised anything resembling a sandbox. A linear leveling experience isn't a terrible idea, and my wife and I actually really enjoyed the class stories. If only the endgame had been of higher quality, we might have stuck around. As it was shortly after launch, we felt the flashpoints were boring, the dailies and heroics were too grindy, the Tier sets were ghastly, the raids were too easy and lacked originality, and the crafting was lame. Overall it felt like they spent all of their time and money on things they already knew how to do well, and hoped that would gloss over the things they had no experience with. |

Originally posted by MMOman101 You're looking for a non-cynical answer to your question here??? Places like Coruscant and Nar Shadaa, as well as some ship and building interiors are like what you've experienced so far. Compare that to about a dozen or so planets in total, most of which are outside. Other areas, such as Tatooinne are pretty much wide open and you can access about 90% of the actual zone. Some mountain tops and things are inaccessible, like any other game. Other planets meet somewhere in the middle with regards to accessibility to given areas. So the implication from some people that you'll be running down corridors to max is either BS, or an assumption brought on by playing about as far as you have. There's some truth in what Karteli is saying regarding the actual gameplay: 1. The storyline IS linear. It reminds me of the Vin Diesel line in Fast and Furious, "You can have any beer you want, as long as it's a Corona." Your personal story follows from quest hub to quest hub, and there's not much reason to land on a planet and "go your own way". All the quests are laid out in a way in which any deviation from the "path" will involve you returning to the same quest areas multiple times. 2. The order of the planets that you visit on both sides is mostly the same. This brings about a "sameness" when playing the opposite faction, despite each having their own content. 3. If you're into PvP, you should be aware that the faction zones tend to be heavily gated from each other. Tatooinne is probably the most open, despite a tiny little bridge being the only access between the strictly faction territories, and the Jundland wastes being the only place where factions have any nondeliberate opportunity to run into each other. Opposing cities are also "exhaustion blocked" or the planet is "faction repurposed" into an "alternate reality". I hope that's a bit closer to what you were asking for... |

Most AAA games use fancy CGI to help sell the game. That's what they are designed to do. |

Originally posted by MMOman101 The entire game is essentially funneled. That doesn't mean there are not some areas where there is a fairly large plain, liek some of the areas on hoth. But you are essentially running in a set of linearly arranged transitions. Its not precisely like you are walking down a corridor, but the zones are way overly simplified and have very little in the way of the ability to wander around. You are basically always on a road whether you visually see it or not. Sometimes the road broadens and that is about it. |

Thanks for the responses.
Like I said, I am a bit surprised by how little range of motions is offered. I don't consider myself a "sandbox" only player, but I think being able tmove around a bit is kind of important. I was playing in the starter area and there was a section that felt like a long winding cooridor.
I might try it some more, but yikes.........I cannot believe someone thought that was a good idea. |

Originally posted by gestalt11 Its intereting becuase one of the big drawbacks of DA2 for me was how much it felt like I was in tunnel vision. Not like DA1 is free roaming or anything but it felt a lot more "open" than the second. The same happens to TOR, it feels almost claustrophobic. |

If you don't care for the beginning of the game then frankly I would not commit to it. Doesn't really change a lot. Frankly most find it endearing in the beginning and fall out of favor with it later on. If you're already feeling that way then it really is not worth your time.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |

I might try a different class or starter area to see if it is any better. Not really any harm in that.
