A sword is never a killer, it is a tool in the killer's hands. |

I vote no but I guess if the trailer was just a combination of game play and art kind of like the manifesto video it would be ok.

You know those aren't the type the OP is referring to, with the concept art overlays and ingame scenery. Those are, however, the kind that ANet does that actually give the players a view of the game. What is being referred to, the style like this new WoW cinematic, sensationalize everything way beyond what the games actually are. Yep, they're fun to watch, but so detached from actual gameplay.

Everyone that knows what a good CGI trailer costs, will agree that it would be just spoiling money to spend it on a CGI trailer

It doesn't NEED a cinematic trailer, but I would love one. The cinematic trailers for GW1 were absolutely beautiful. The Factions CG trailer is still one of my favorite bits of game CG.

I'd say no for one very good reason, as we've seen in other so called wow killers, cinematic trailers are NEVER like the gameplay in the actual game, i'd prefer the stance of honesty that Anet has taken with their title.

I would say no. I mean.. it doesn't really matter to me. It's cool if there is one, but it's not a deal breaker if it doesn't. WoW has some really good cinematic's but after I watched them once, I can't remember watching them again.

I'm not against CGI cutscenes or opening sequences at all but trailers I coudl care less. When it coems to trailers all I care about is in game graphics and gameplay.CGI is meaningless to me in this case.

Imagine for one minute that you never played wow and saw that new trailer, then logged into the game to play it, im betting you'd be hugely disappointed. but that's how blizzard hook them.

Cinematic or CGI trailers give the people wrong impression about the game. Look at SW:TOR trailers, you can't do any of that stuff in game. All the trailers that you see of GW2 are in game footage, so when you go in game and do/see the things they did in the trailer, you feel satisfied rather than ripped off

Doesn't look like GW2 needs the market bonus from it to me. You go in any MMO at the moment and global/zone chat is often featuring a GW2 discussion every now and then. MMO players are already in the know. A big cinematic is a large investment for something 99% of people would only want to see once. |

Originally posted by Istavaan Not really, I do like the WoW graphics it absolutes suits the game, really good progression from WC3, by that premise no game should ever have any cinematics. The wrath gate quest line ( in WoW ) was one of the best I have ever done in ANY game, and the cinematic made it even better. Its nothing to do with market bonus or marketing its just another part of the game we come to expect, and they have kept pushing it in game, it is one of the way they use to tell the story. And it works great, I loved all the cinematic and scripted bits in WC3 it was absolutely amazing, and it was nothing to hype the game it was part of it.

Cinematic trailers always seem to have a reverse hype effect IMO. SO no.

with Warcraft / Starcraft, the RTS games, CGI didnt bother me because i knew it was just about story, not gameplay
when Blizzard released this CGI for their mmo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNS_8C_gQSQ I thought it was deceiving because the CGI was showing Classes gameplay the WOW classes could do everything in the CGI but the ingame avatars are cartoony

Originally posted by Vannor Was playing RaiderZ all day yesterday and ALL anyone was talking about was GW2. Tried out DarkBlood for a bit (can't seem to get into that game, don't know why, the elements are good) and once again, nothing but GW2 in the chat. Same thing in C9, just GW2 everywhere. Even I didn't realize it was that rampant. I decided to ease up on the people bitching they can't go anywhere without people screaming in their face about it. If it was a game I didn't like, I'd probably get a little perturbed, too. Fortunately I'm just as excited ;3 "Forums aren't for intelligent discussion; they're for blow-hards with unwavering opinions." |

Originally posted by Nadia What?! That is story telling right there, and not only that but the gameplay is pretty accurate you can pretty much do what they do, with the in game tech, the first hint that it is story telling is the fact that there is a narrator at the start telling exactly what the setting is, also following up on their other games that tell the story in pretty much exactly the same way I am not sure how you were surprised and/or felt deceived. You must feel deceived with every single game out there that has any sort of cinematic then?

Need? No Would it sales improve if it had one? Sure Could they fool player to expect more of the game than they will get? Sure Could they use it to introduce player to the lore/setting or enhance it?Sure Would that make the gameplay any better? Hardly.
Would I prefer if they used the money to improve the gameplay, server, developement, service or anything else related to my gameplay? Hell yeah. 'Seamless world' - A world lacking visible or phys. seams, forming forced breaking points during transition and movement;

Waste of money in my opinion. Do people honestly buy games based on the cinematic trailers? They don't show actual gameplay.
