Got moderated which kind of took the whole point out of my thread...oh well.
Question to mod: Why did you moderate this? |

Sure. Right now their cash shop is purely cosmetic. But the intention to go F2P seems more and more likely from their last report. You see, that’s the way it always starts with every subscription game that switches earning models. As the profits drop you’ll see something like XP boosters appear as a convenience feature and when people are comfortable with them and the need to make money grows stronger you’ll start seeing power wheel abilities for sale and then those monthly updates will become purchasable quest content... Before long, within a couple of years after F2P, it will corrupt everything in the game with the need to spend more than you’d pay with a simple subscription fee to progress or play what you want. It's just easier to hook people that way, when you ask for nothing up front.
I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing. To survive games have to make a profit margin. It’s just the nature of free to play to become pay to progress in truth. |

Originally posted by rojo6934 Its common practice in the world you have to pay extra for additional fluff you would not have gotten anyway. The cosmetic fluff in the store wouldnt have been developed without the CS, as has been demonstrated by every mmo in the past, new styles dont enter the game unless a new tier has been added to crafting, pvp and/or pve. In betwine its very uncomon for a new style (item) to enter the game and in most cases the ones that do use recycled styles. Heck look at a car, you have to buy it, ensure it, pay taxes, buy fuel for it and you still have to buy those designer floormats, auxiliry lights, heck you have to pay to get any of the existing parts fixed or replaced. Look at the Iphone, you pay for your phone, sub and/or minutes and you still have to pay for (most) apps.

When cosmetic items are the only way to change/improve the look of your avatar in the game it's a bigger deal than other MMOs where all the gear drops can change your look. However I beleive there are plenty of such itmes available from vendors and as drops in the game that one could not touch the CS.Whether the best looking stuff is only available in th CS I can't say as I don't play and never looked at the CS during beta and is also probably subjective.
Cash Shops can turn from merely trivial cosmetic items to explotive and P2W at the drop of the hat though and that is a valid concenr of any game with one. |
