Interesting, a lot of talk about "Horizons" I had never even heard of that game but back then it seemed like there was some buzz about it. |

I miss those days sometimes, the trolling seemed to occur less back in the day or rather we weren't as jaded :)

Originally posted by Calerxes Well my observation wasn't the net as a whole but rather focused on MMORPG. I dunno maybe I just payed less attention to the trolling back then? Although it could be said that when we were much more niche back then, there were mostly MMO enthusiasts amongst us? |

Originally posted by J2Khouri Thats because the MMO world was a Sandbox world. In my opinion WoW introduced the first linear MMO and in essence the themepark sub-genre. It is why I have for as long as I can remember split the two sub-genres into very narrow definitions. Linear equals themepark, open world equals sandbox. Its really that simple. |

Originally posted by Calerxes I actually have more optimism for the genre and gaming in general as I get older. I'm able to approach the genre with a much more objective mind and I think that is what has helped me appreciate it more. Although I do see what you describe in others as they age. |

Ahahahaha ~ it was a good laugh indeed ~ it's nice to know that the more things change the more they stay the same.

Whats interesting to see is how differently free to play was treated back before WoW ~ |

Originally posted by Calerxes Yeah, but it changed in mid development. It was originally supposed to be a great Sandbox with a lot of really great ideas. The Dragon you could play would perma-die, and it's body parts would be extremely valuable, and you started out young and would grow over a long period of time. There were other special races like this too, Angels and Demons, Sphinx, I forget what else. You could only have one of any of these special races, and they all could suffer perma-death. All the standard races too, plus 2 competing underwater races. And the standard races would have special bonuses for their environment too. For example, the Slith (lizard race of the great deserts) could run faster on the desert sands than others. The cat people who lived in forests had some special benefit too. This was to give them each an advantage in their own terrain so as to fight off PvP attacks better, make more sense. Construction and resource area control, along with a justice system for PKers, was to give players plenty of reason to not turn the game into a rabbid free-for-all (a la Eve in some ways). As maxed in Sandbox as could be made. The boards were very active with thousands of active followers from the start. And NCSoft was going to put something like 2 million into it to get to the next stage, where they'd seek more funding. But then the number 2 guy in the company forced the number 1 guy out in a board of directors coup. NCsoft quickly cancelled their funding, and the game was turned into a semi Themepark style with casual players running loads of Dragons that never died, just like any other character. Once all the followers realized what changes were being done, they almost all left (me included).
Once upon a time.... |

I don't know if it was on here, but I remember a post from years ago... The post was about RF online. You know in this game isn't auto-attack
"This game sucks, not point and click = not fun."
Thinking about it now so funny.... people actually wanted point and click back then.. |

"I'm holding onto Blizzard to bring back that loving feeling. World of Warcraft looks great. I just hope it's not going to be another EQ/DAoC clone." No such thing as WoW clones. Its EQ/DAoC clones! |
