Holy Shit !! I decided i wanted to try guild wars a couple months back and after finally remembering my account and pw ... from when the game came out... it prompted me that i needed to remember and enter 1 of my characters full names to log in... WHAT BULLSHIT.. well that turned me away after trying to remember for a hour i sent in a email and received no response and totally forgot about the game as that stopped any desire to play. Today i tried installing from gw site and i had to send for a PW change because for some reason the one i remembered using was incorrect.. than use the code they sent answer some sec questions AND DO THE FING CAPTCHA THAT ARE IMPOSSIBLE... literally could not get it .. i tried the audio sample and they may as well have been speaking demonic or some shit.. what bullshit ... i understand the security purposes but seriously come on.. than next screen enter current pw .. after i realize they had sent another email with another pw to use at this point which went to spam folder i worked on deciphering this captcha for about 25 mins to be asked other security questions and proceed to more screens of freaking challenges to log into my FING ACCOUNT... now after doing all that BS to acess my account and prove it is my account i am asked to log in and enter 1 of my characters names ! DO they not want people to come back ? its been many many YEARS since i played come on !

As long as you know your username and password they should tell you one of your characters names so you can log in. Just send them an email with as much info as you can. I had the same problem when I tried to log in after a 2 year break.

NCsoft has some of the most convoluted security measures I've ever experience. i ran into the same trouble when trying to reactivate my old CoX account. I just ended up sending an email to support telling them everything short of a DNA sample and it was sorted. I was able to name my level 50 though so I guess that helps.
There is NO miracle patch. 95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch. Hope is not a stategy. |

customer support can help you (I had the same problem in the past). But better stay away. gw1 is a horrible, horrible game.

How dare they!! Talk about stupid, seriously, why the hell would anyone want, never mind need, such security measures in place to ensure accounts are not comprimsed. Who do they think they are FFS, making sure people are who they claim to be before letting them log in and play. So glad the OP pointed out what complete and utter morons they are..... A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others. |

I didnt have any problem with GW1 support when trying to get back into the game to do HOM stuff. I couldnt remember my username, password or any character names, but I filled out the form on their website and emailed it in with the details they needed and got an email back in about a day or so with all the info I needed to reset my account and log in. Just chill. Its not ANets fault you forgot your details. Cluck Cluck, Gibber Gibber, My Old Mans A Mushroom |

I had the same problem I could not remember the name of any of my characters. They asked me some details then they gave me a name when I supplied it.

It's actually a tool to keep impatient children out of Guild Wars. I say it's worked pretty well. But seriously, how hard is it to remember at least ONE character name. It's no different than if you lose your authenticator in WoW. You contact customer service, prove that it's you and you get access to your account. If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game. |

Originally posted by tdawg26 Instead of doing all that you could've just go here: https://guildwars.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_home and sort it out with their LIVE customer support and get everything done in just a matter of few mins... You just poletly explain that you forgot your character names and you haven't been playing for ages (there was this transfer to ncsoft master accounts so hence the security issues if you didn't transfer on time). It's way easier and I use it whenever I have a question or issue (even for GW2 issues I go to this chat and they always help me). Try it and see how it goes. "Happiness is not a destination. I didn't have a big issue with it...I used the online support chat thing, and after giving them just my name and my account name, they immediately told me a character name. So....not nearly as infuriating as you seem to be. This was only 3 weeks ago too. By the way, made it to 30 in that time, never having played the game. Get your goodies guys! lol The Deep Web is sca-ry. |

Had the same issue, took awhile but its solved now. Considering the other things you dont have to worry about like subbing its not that annoying.

What nonsence is it that you have to remember your character name?? Email account should be enough to retrieve your username and password.
Thanks for this post, I am eyeballing Guild Wars 2 because it has no subscription (and looks like a good game) so I could take a break for months or years even and come back when I plan to. But obviously that's not recommended with these jokers. |

Had 2 friends with a similar problem hadn't played the game for year's. Told them to get ahold of customer support and within 15 minute's they could login. So why didn't you just get ahold of customer support?
