However I will say that a majority of American politicians believe that humans and dinosaurs roamed the earth at the same time. So majority isn't always the smartest metric to go by.

Hmm lets just say I doubt your metric.

Quit worrying about other players in a game and just play.

Im just gonna leave you with a few quotes:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results ~ Albert Einstein

~~~~
This is where this genre is right now. Developers are just doing the same thing over and over again, and investors are baffled when it doesn't turn out very well.
And then this gem.
Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds ~ Albert Einstein
We might be the minority, but at least our idea's and hopes for the genre are different then the failures that have been repeated these last 8 years or so. You and the investors that think like you are our opposition. We need a change in the direction MMO's are going. I'm sorry but GW2 is not it. The Repopulation, ArcheAge, World of Darkness; these are all examples of the direction MMO's should be going. ArcheAge is a very good representation of what Developers should be trying to do between the two subgenres of MMO's (Sandbox and Themepark).
ArcheAge is taking great idea's from the many themeparks out there and augmenting them with amazing aspects from the Sandbox genre.
"In the immediate future, we have this one, and then we’ve got another one that is actually going to be – so we’re going to have, what we want to do, is in January, what we’re targeting to do, this may or may not happen, so you can’t hold me to it. But what we’re targeting to do, is have a fun anniversary to the Ilum shenanigans that happened. An alien race might invade, and they might crash into Ilum and there might be some new activities that happen on the planet." ~Gabe Amatangelo
While I don't actively complain I would like to see more variety of choice, A decent sandbox virtual world or two to choose from would be ideal. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the themepark variety for what they are, I just miss the freedom of having no constraints like back in early UO.
I think that whinging and complaining rarely get you anywhere and isn't a constructive way to use time or maybe I'm just getting old. Some people do have valid points and do take the time to construct a well thought out post, it's the other kind that sometimes seem more vocal on these boards, you know the ones that have no substance and just blatantly state that this Sucks! with no points on how or why and a are probably written when in a bad mood or drunk.
To the people that claim that the genre is dead and that all games suck, just stop playing the games and let your wallet do the talking and only support the games you do like, if you are the majority as somtimes claimed in many of these threads the industry would take notice as they would see a massive drop in proffit.
So my advice to all, support what you like and don't shell out cash to something you clearly do not.
Just my thoughts on this anyhow
It is posts like this that makes it a 'us vs them' mentality.
To argue WoW-like MMOs failed is factually wrong.
There are plenty of successes and failures.
Factually you are the minority and what the majority enjoys will be catered to more. This isn't rocket science.
To say 'I know best' by using statements like 'direction MMO's should be going' is arrogant that doesn't convince anyone.
If you enjoy something you want to talk about it. Forums are where people talk about games they enjoy. The fact that so many of us are online saying we don't enjoy the ezMMO's that replaced MMO's shows that we still care for the genre.
Looking at the numbers of p2p games that have went f2p, op, i beg to differ...
They do complain, but not in this forum, mostly in their game forum, which will mostly be deleted by the mods...
And they vote with their wallets...
Most people will attribute this quote to Albert Einstein but there is no evidence to suggest that he made this statement (it's also attributed to Ben Franklin, for example).  Also, Rita Mae Brown in her book Sudden Death on Pg. 68 from 1983.
Doesn't make any difference, just noting that it's a partial chunk of an urban legend that's growing with constant reposting(s) on the internet.  Poor Dead Albert has several urban myth misquotes tacked to his name now.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
The minority are the loyals to their game , the rest are just jumping from MMO release to MMO release , which in this case is the majority.
To even have a "side" is pretty absurd to begin with. In my opinion, the biggest mistake a consumer can do is campaign against diversity and choice. While I may prefer sandbox games at this moment, I might not prefer sandbox games 10 years from now as my taste in games evolves. There is no real benefit to me by campaigning against themepark/sandbox games being created. By limiting my choices now I am only shooting myself in the foot in the long run as my own interests evolve.
Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.
If you watch a game, it’s fun. If you play it, it’s recreation. If you work at it, it’s FF-XIV.
Well, the minority is what keeps games like EVE going strong and why you see games like SWTOR fail. The "minority" refuses to pay 15 a month and sees F2P being a good thing. The minority doesn't jump MMOs like carnival rides.
Why?
With F2P your game has to be good. Nobody is going to spend money on  shitty game. No more are the days of 60 dollar cash grabs (think D3) and the game turns out to  be shit and you wait months for patche, etc
So, really the majority is killing the genre. This is why you see MMOs how they are now, and why they all go F2P within months. This is also why you are seeing people talk more about sandbox.
It depends on the number. If there are only 100 people loyal to my game, i woud MUCH prefer 2000 players pay my game for a month, leave and 2000 other players join.
One scary thing is that there are people who believe that humans are the pinnacle of God's creation.
It would be even scarier if this were true.
Technically, if you look at it from a biological and evolutionary standpoint, humans are the "pinnacle" of creation.  That doesnt mean we're so superior to other animals that we shouldnt fear some of them.  But, the fact that we could easily wipe out any animal we pretty much choose on a whim speaks volumes.
One scary thing is that there are people who believe that humans are the pinnacle of God's creation.
It would be even scarier if this were true.
Technically, if you look at it from a biological and evolutionary standpoint, humans are the "pinnacle" of creation.  That doesnt mean we're so superior to other animals that we shouldnt fear some of them.  But, the fact that we could easily wipe out any animal we pretty much choose on a whim speaks volumes.
Tell that to cockroaches and rats!
We could, but it would be more like mutual destruction.
