Originally posted by Nitth I can see your point however I would add that I don't think people are as fickle as that. Keep in mind we are all looking for a steady place to call home. That's the appeal I would think of an MMORPG. I would say they are the same GW2 and TSW as well as WOW. From what I played of TSW it reminds me of TOR in that it feels like a story pushing you forward. If that is the core dynamic I don't think that will keep people long term. That being said I think GW2 adds just a bit more with the added bonus of being buy to play. Just dont think anyone is looking to abandon ship on any game so I think for GW2 it will be harder if a bit weird. Lol with GW2 you can get back on the ship any time you please and still be relatively progressive.
This is all my opinion however. Personally TSW has only been out what a month...two maybe. Seems rather hasty but then again what do I know. |

heh. tsw is definitely going to make a push around halloween. and between that, gw2, and mop, and various other hype machines getting rolling (ps2, rift xpac), AND the latest batch of f2ps (vanguard, swtor, possibly tera) i think between now and new years is going to be an interesting time. and by interesting i mean "what i wouldn't give for a holocaust cloak."

Originally posted by Alot Thanks for the link. It was an interesting read. Also read some of the comments by the players. They have some valid points. Me personally I like the lore and potential of TSW but not so much the combat animations and the side ways movement of the characters. I'm not sure going F2P so quickly is a good idea either however I wonder since they have a cash shop are they already in place to do so. |

People still believe that what keeps players playing a game is amount of content... Sigh.
Currently playing: GW2 |

That guy is either delusional or naive. All those who wanted to try TSW have already tried it. Those who want to play it are playing it. A "relaunch" would actually send the wrong signal, and would be the worst PR move ever. |

I don't see how GW2 not living up to someones expectations would drive him back to TSW.

Firstly.. Desperate situation? lol I would actually be happy if the "alternative game to WoW but trying to be exacly the same game as WoW" game hunters don't even think of trying Guild Wars 2. There are enough dedicated players who have waited for years to only be amazed and astonished by what the closed and open beta's have had to offer, let alone playing the game post lauch. TSW is not even close to standing on Arena's toes, the fact that people are "already looking for their next MMO after GW2" is actually quite pathetic, but in the end Arena will be laughing at you...but please go buy it, you will help pay the game developer who is making the next content patch! :D All hail the Barn Owl! oh.. and the RED SQUIRREL!!! |

Originally posted by The_Korrigan I don't know about that. Many of my friends are somewhat nerdy and play video games, but don't know what TSW is. When one of them saw me play it and I told him all about it, he said something along the lines of "oh, that's pretty interesting". Looks like TSW's marketing campaign didn't work that well. A Steam sale could help it a lot. |

Originally posted by gaeanprayer they made large events already in less then 12 hours. they also wont be having content patches. most content will come in live. as in when they finish making a new event they will put it in right away thats why they are called a live content team and not a post dev team. and i beleive they said something about weekly something or other
also anyone who thinks people will be leaving en masse in october will probably want to bite their tounges as GW2 will be runing the first holidy event. if its like GW1's first events its going to be awesome. i dont know if anyone will want to miss it. |

TSW versus GW2 - this will end up bad for TSW no matter how you look at it.
GW2 - WoW MoP - TSW and maybe a 4th mmo named Planetside 2. No1 knows how things will turn out tough, but it seems a little stupid that GW2 players quit within a month lol. http://speedtest.net/result/2112016336.png |

It's just an opinion about a game without the content to justify a long term sub. New P2P games seem to have problems retaining their players. Looks like getting a part of the P2P players to jump ship for a long time is harder than many would hope and expect. TSW can still beat TOR in terms of going F2P sooner. TERA looks like it's in trouble too. New games launching with the P2P model seem to be headed straight for the wall. Let's hope GW2 is enough of a succes to prove that B2P still is a viable business model today. |

Originally posted by dekou Possibly to new players, yes... I'm still surprised EA failed a hype campain, that's usually the only thing they are good at. Personally, after playing TSW in closed beta (not week ends, but 7/7), I didn't buy it. And even if GW2 reveals to be lacking after a couple of months, I will still not buy TSW. I will rather buy Pandaria. |

Then again, the hardcore MMO'ers probably already have bought TSW knowing they would be done with it before GW2 launched (2 months of time). The big bulk of players these days (i think) are ex hardcore players who turned semi casual now (age 23 - 33) who have a job now and other real life stuff to do. Being a ex hard core turning semi casual now (meanwhile having my job, wife, building my own house and starting to think about children in the near future) I also personally don't believe the "GW2 doesn't have a sub so players will probably play a 2nd subscription based MMO next to it". Okay I do have the money, but no... I don't have the time. So, what TSW wants is the big group of casual players to reach the big numbers of subscribers and I don't believe they will ever reach much of those players. TSW is a niche game like some said in that topic over there, because of the lore, because of the fact that subscription fee these days will really narrow your audience and because it isn't as friendly to a casual player like GW2 is for lots and lots of reasons. If I would be a TSW player then I would love it to have and maintain it's niche status. As a fan and a player it's better to be stable and have a enjoyable game below the radar than to have it blow up in everyone's face like SW:ToR did. |

Ah, TSW. I just looked at some screenshots, laughed for about 5 minutes and quickly forgot about it. Sorry you can't replace new ideas with naked tits. TSW, let's be honest, is just another lazy, half-hearted and bored attempt at creating a P2P milking cow. The failure was predictable. WoW has already milked this market good and whatever niches it could not occupy are already occupied by various clones. The situation won't change by October. It won't change at all. Even Blizzard is looking for other ways to make money (most recently D3 RMAH).
MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop). |

Originally posted by dekou The Secret World is an EA Games game (published by) and therefore you won't see it on Steam I think. I think that EA Games won't stop at trying to boycot Steam and promote their own Origin so no... I don't think you'll see a Steam sale for TSW even though it would be good for the game. |

Originally posted by Normike Exactly this. Cancelled my sub because I know GW2 is right around the corner and I'll be playing GW2 for a vey long time. TSW was a really fun and unique game but once you finish the main storyline it reverts to the same failed vertical progression path that plagues the themepark sub genre. I know some enjoy it but not nearly enough to have any long term success. |
