Originally posted by Meowhead According to a recent thread, music officially died in 1970. Just blame it all on the general decline, and you too can be an amateur art critic. Everytime I hear the soundtrack of GW1 my mind is flushed with good memories of the game. I bet this will be the same for GW2. Jeremy is legendary.

I neither give in to the hype or hate. |
Which is the better MMORPG out of WoW, TSW, SWTOR and GW2? |

This is very much down to personal preference indeed. Personally I love the music both the theme and other (in-game) music and think it fits the game well. Oh and I do love horns, it has for example been my main healing instrument on minstrel in LOTRO ever since they added it and I also jammed a bit with it using the in-game music system :)

GW2 music is FANTASTIC. However, I'm a huge classical music fan so I'm biased toward that style. I love WoW music too, but Jeremy Soule is a step above everyone else. The man's compositions would fit in the days of Tchaikovsky, Rimsky Korsakov, Wagner and so on. It's genius. Granted, it's not as grandstaging in style as say, John Williams, it's a more laid back, quiet atmospheric style. But he does ramp it up during combat and story scenes in GW2, much more so than in GW1. He has definitely grown and gotten better as a video game composer. I think GW2 and Skyrim are his best efforts yet and he'll only get better as he gets older, can't wait to hear more from him.

I tend agree. So I offer this UN-forgettable tune :) - Al Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. |

lol , honestly , I don't know any gamer that listens to in game music , they all put songs from their favorite artitst and game for hours while rocking. Again , music is of no concern when it comes to gaming. Just like graphics , but we're talking about sound.

the soundtracks are simillar to GW1, but it brings refreshment and sounds a bit different... I really like the soundtracks (almost all of them). "Happiness is not a destination. It is a method of life." ![]() |

I think GW2 music is on the high quality end of the scale. I probably will not mute it like I do with most mmorpgs. I might have it turned way down though.

I will also listen in GW2 because it is part of the experience of the game. |

I strongly disagree. I listen to tons of soundtracks, and Soule does a goodjob of creating themes for different races and zones. Each of the 5 races have themes so distinct and so appropriate, and some of the later soundtracks feel very epic.

I think this is the heart of the issue. People have different ideas of how 'obtrusive' background music should be. Soule's music tends to be on the 'bland' side, because it seems meant to be very ambient and unobtrusive. For some, too much so.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world. |

Originally posted by Vhaln I personally think there are moments when ambiance and sound effects should dominate and other moments where the music is very effective when it picks up and becomes more noticeable. I always thought WoW did a great job at executing this blend, and so far, I've experienced the same in GW2. There are definitely moments when the music suddenly becomes more prominent and other moments when it's very subtle. Always beautifuy imo. |
