I think it's a combination of 2 things: 1) We know some details, but not a whole lot, and we've seen no gameplay - Just a world fly-through. 2) People are FAR more obssessed about what it ISN'T rather than what it IS. It is NOT Skyrim online, and that is what they focus on, so they dismiss it. I'm betting it will be a solid MMO, DAoC 2 with the lore of the Elder Scrolls. That's just fine for me. |

Originally posted by Coldren I'd also add that all the hype slaves out there are currently occupied with GW2. Once the fad passes, I'm sure TESO will get it's fare share of hysterical anticipation. |

Call me crazy, but I think that is intentional. I think the developer is down playing features until closer to launch.
DamonVile- Games built for disposable players are now apparently built by disposable employees. |

Its a game we have all played before. It is just a cash in on a popular name. You take TES title off this game and it wouldnt sell a fraction of the copies. We forum dwellers are a little more informed than the ones who do not follow like us, theres going to be a massive number of box sales from the people who see TES game and buy it on w whim, and ohh how they are going to be pissed.
Waiting for:ArcheAge |

A friend of mine who is really into TES games and who absolutely loved Morrowind said "No, it sounds awful and I'll be playing GW2 anyway". I haven't done much research on it myself as I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore TES fan. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

I can't say I am following closely, but whenever I see news from the devs on this game, I get less and less excited about it. The little information that is out there makes this game nothing to get excited about and even makes me a little upset that a developer would put so little effort into making a game and hoping that the IP would sell the titles. As a gamer, I do hope of course that they wow me in the comming months. Unfortunately, its a fantasy themepark that is not trying to be innovative. We have that already, its called Rift or even go to WoW, if you don't like that GW2 is coming out soon...and then there is LOTRO which is even f2p. If you want a game that is several years too late and does not try to improve the genre at all, then TESO seems to be what you want. Again, I hope I'm wrong. A good TES mmo would be amazing, but I don't see TESO as being that good TES mmo.

Originally posted by SEANMCAD It is the great cliche. We are told "you don't know anything" when all we did was quote the developer teling you exactly what the game will include. It is like the low information voter who claims "I voted for the guy, but never expected he would do this", when "this" happened to be what the individual actually campaigned on. We know what ESO will be, and what it won't be. The questions aren't "what will the game be" but rather "does it set out to do what it sets out to do" and "am I interested in what it offers." Subjective answers all of them. But we know what ESO is. |

Originally posted by Castillle Bingo. And that was a free bit of marketing blizzard did there for WoW. Not only to guide fans slowly into the RPG format, but to show people that they could handle things of an RPG nature competently. And if it failed, oh well, was just a one-off campaign for an expansion pack! Blizzard knew the change was going to be particularly jarring for long-term fans of the Warcraft series. So they guided them slowly in. First episode to dip their feet in, then going even higher on RPG nature for episodes II and III, and leaving you wondering "imagine if I could do this with 4 fellow players instead of just computer AI?" It should be obvious by now, but Blizzard wasn't stupid. Can TESO do something similar? I doubt it. |

This is the internet, informed rational discussion is elsewhere. Take the deal with the Hero engine. Just because Bioware used an old version and made a bag game with it, doesn't make the engine bad. And TESO's lead also claims the Hero engine was only used for prototyping and is not going to be the final engine. But hey! Why let facts get in the way, bash a game you only seen a trailer of because another game company made a bad game. |

Originally posted by sfc1971 When you sit down and turn on the TV and the news caster says 'there will be a football game tonight at 11 with one team vs another team' Then there is a good chance that is actually going to be what happens at 11, would you not agree?
So when Zenimax says 'there will be no housing and you will have to choose between three factions' I think there is good reason to expect that there will be 3 forced factions and no housing. DO you disagree with that?
These are the statements we are basing our views off of does your game have rainbow sprinkles and magic ponies!? |

Its stupidity at a level that makes me wonder if zenimax isnt paying people to come on message boards. does your game have rainbow sprinkles and magic ponies!? |

Is it yet time for massive hype? I mean how long can you hype a game and not get people dissapointed... What is launch schedule?

when the developers says things like "It will be a success because its Elder Scrolls" it fills me with a sense of forboding.

do we really have to explain this? does your game have rainbow sprinkles and magic ponies!? |

Originally posted by Distopia In TOR's defense, they were correct: No big game MMO has ever had an endgame that flippin buggy and that flippin unfinished, and that flippin unsatisfying. ESO says it is going to be tab based targeting, locked factions, no player housing because it is to "difficult", and basing most of its concepts off of standard MMO cliches, because that is what sells. We also know they don't view it an MMO, but "an online RPG." So once again, for people who don't want a boring cliche, what more info do they need? |

Elder Scrolls main audience are single player game players, not MMO players (although they do play it as well). I guess what I am trying to say is that they don't need hype, when it releases the fans from the single player games will flock to it bringing a lot of MMO players with them. They haven't made any bold claims or attacked world of warcraft like other MMO makers, they are beign quiet. Hopefully silent but deadly, we will have to see. |
