This is my only issue right now. I have no idea what server to pick as I'm going to be locked to it once I do. Usually I enter an MMO like a newborn baby and just join whichever guild or group of folks I end up playing with on that server. OR, after a week or 2 I find some friends to join on a different server via these forums or the official forums or otherwise, yet, because I can't choose more than one server, this is going to hinder me a bit. Any suggestions? I'm not very good at finding guilds or friends in these games, but I have a feeling I'm going to want to for GW2.

In europe we choose based on unofficial server tags, many servers are tagged by certain language groups, on top of that there are RPG tagged and even PvP tagged servers.

For me, I read forums until I find what appears to be a general consensus of where the australian players are going to go. There's always at least one or two servers that become unofficially official oceanic servers. I live in the U.S., but I work a night shift and do most of playing from midnight until 6 a.m. on my off-days so I look for heavy australian populations so that I have more server activity during my play times. That and aussies (and those from new zealand) are just very fun folks to play with.

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus Well, in those games, like Lotro, I tend to make one character on each server type to see which one I like best. Won't be able to do that with GW2. This is such a dilemma. |

With WvsWvsW I think you should look at 1 of the top 6 servers during bwe's and pick one of those. From the guild server list so far it looks like the biggest pvp guilds will be sticking with those they played in bwe's...
What happens when you log off your characters????..... |

Originally posted by elocke Here's a list of servers/guilds/alliances etc. http://www.gw2guilds.org/servers?sort=guilds&order=desc I know Darkhaven, Sorrows Furnace, and Gates of Madness were great WvsWvsW opponents during bwes, not sure about the rest.

Originally posted by elocke Yeah, I'll still be doing that, because I super don't give a crap. There's bound to be at least one good guild on each server, and with being able to join up with multiple at once, I don't see where any of this is going to be a problem tbh. I usually tell friends what server I'm playing on, if they end up on another, sucks to be them. Friends you make later on that are already established in the game don't have that luxury, true, but no game ever gave it to them. A server transfer would always be necessary in that case, unless they want to remake and start from scratch on your server. My experience has been that people would rather not do that. Can't you guest on other servers for PvE content? And aren't guilds cross-server? I am sure I read that the two above things are true, so technically isn't WvW the only thing where server selection actually matters? |

I always go for a high pop most diverse server, and with ppl that are kind of close to my living place more or less (somewhere my part of europe) and also a pvp focused if possible. I like a mix of different ppl and join such guilds also. It's fun to hear about stuff around the world from first hand. So for me so far (for eu) potential sevres are desolation. gandara, far shiverpeaks, vabbi

The server I picked for beta was full of people talking Spanish only (although it wasnt an official spanish server), and I found it very hard to enjoy (or even experience) the social side. I am hoping that for Live I can find at least an english speaking server if I am to be locked into it - although I have no idea how you can know this in advance.

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus Yep this is how I'm doing it. I'm looking to avoid any server where the majority of guilds registering that as their home server are not English speaking. Not that I have anything against any other nationality, it's just that I will find it harder to get groups and enjoy the game if I can't communicate with everyone because 80% of the server is Spanish/Italian/Polish/Russian or whichever. |

I've always picked an official or unofficial RP server since Camelot. It's never failed me and I always end up in a great guild and very happy with the community regardless of the game. Will be doing the same here and hoping for the best :)
