Hi all. So I have dabbled a bit in the stress tests with the classes and narrowed it down to one of these two for my main. I always play a melee character in every game, and these fit the bill.
The guardian seems to be kind of a paladin type, but it looks as if the attacks also heal, so I don't have to switch to some separate healing mechanics. Am I right about that later in the game? Can you do tanking and dps and healing all with one action bar?
I like the warrior, but I find it somewhat overwhelming that they can use basically every single weapon combo including ranged. Do they have some sort of weapon swapping, or am I supposed to find an exact weapon combo (i.e. sword and shield) and use it for the whole battle. I am apprehensive about the weapon swapping element. Do guardians also have weapon swapping, or is it sword and shield and that's about it?
Sorry and thanks for any info! |

Both classes get the ability to swap between two weapon sets, by... level 7, I believe? SOmething like that. Relatively early in the game. Only elementalists (Because they have 4 attunements that swap what their weapon does), and engineers (Because their extra weapons can be in the utility slots) can't have 2 weapon sets. |

you can swap weapons for both. you can do tanking/dps/healing with every profession in the game. you will be good at dps and soaking damage for both classes, but when it comes to support guardian is better at helping other block/heal some damage while warrior is better at buffing people and buffing himself.

I know that warriors get a feat to reduce the time between weapons swaps. Im not sure if the Guardian gets it as well, but either way, you generally want to switch a great deal to access all your best skills as much as you can. The biggest difference between the Warrior and Guardian to me is that the Warrior has a huge array of weapon combinations up front, but fewer skills than most when actually fighting. Guardians have a great deal of versatility through thier Eilite skills, but have fewer combinations of weapons. |

You can swap weapons with a hotkey or a click of the button on the bottom-left next to your weapon skills. You can have, say, a Sword and Shield as one set, then instantly swap to a 2H Greatsword or a Bow for range.
While out of combat you can also change those weapon sets at will so long as you have replacement weapons in your inventory. So you can replace that Sword and Shield with a Scepter and Focus, and the Greatsword with a Staff, and try that combo out for awhile. |

Everyone has access to weapon swapping at level 7 (I think). I don't have much experience with warrior so illstick with what I know, which is the guardian. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guardian Each of the weapon sets have their own different playstyle, so it is up to you to decide how you want to play the class. |

From the get go I have wanted to play a Guardian. Throughout the BWEs and stress tests I have primarily played a Warrior (before wipe to 17). I love the warrior now and I'm not just saying that. It will be hard to switch but I think I am going full blown guardian just because it does sound like a Paladin. It may turn out not to be my cup of tea, but I'm going to make it my passion to be the best Guardian out there! ;) edit: sp Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

Guardians have fantastic utility. Lots of support, lots of defence, a nice dab of healing spread over the weapon options. And then when you just want to kill the hell out of shit you equip the Greatsword and find it as fun and awesome offensively as anything else in the game. Looking at advanced playing, I believe the warrior's strength is taking advantage of 'combo' setups from other classes. Just about anything another class puts down that can be part of a combo, can be utilised by the warrior. So despite being largely the meathead class there's definite room for skilled players to excel with it. |

I prefer the feel of Warrior, but many people really enjoy Guardian. I think it really comes down to which provides the best personal fit. I'd recommend playing each to at least level 15 or 20, then pick the one you like the most as your main.

Currently guardians are OP in many ways, warriors seem to be "fixed" and balanced now. (a PVP point of view) I wouldn't lay judgement based on the betas. if you want a damage dealer go warrior, if you want a "jack of all trades" go guardian. Every class has weapon swapping, warrior just has the most options to choose between the 2 swap sets :) Currently playing: FTB Ultimate Waiting for: Wildstar, ArcheAge, Class4. Dead and Buried: GW2, SWTOR, Darkfall, AO, AC2, Vanguard, CoH/V, EnB, EVE, Neocron, FE, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, FFXI, SWG, WoW, and billions of eastern junks! |

For melee it's a toss up between the 2h Greatsword Guardian or the 2h Hammer Warrior. /sigh
