Just curious if any of you beta testers  enjoyed these dynamic events or did they simply become as tiresome as the rifts? For me the rifts were a new concept at the start but people soon got tired and bored of these.

Will I be going through the game constantly getting into dynamic events or are these few and far between?

+ There's a lot of them, and almost all heart quests involve them in some shape / fashion

- Just like everything, it will get stale as you continue to experience them / level alts

I think some are hit and miss. By-and-large, I enjoyed even the ones I repeated over and over.

More than what they play like, I love the other consequences of the DE system.

Hmmm that's what I was thinking. The concept is good trying to bring players together but all I got out of the rifts was mad button bashing with little idea of the goal. Even when I did get the concept I didn't care and wanted to carry on questing . The rifts got ignored

I found the dynamic events much more immersive.  I don't think people really understood how immersive they were at first because people would participate in one, then run off without paying attention to why the one thing happened and see the result.  Often a new chain will spring forth from asking a unassuming NPC something.

check out some of the videos I have in my sig on DE's.. there are TONS of DE's all over the place as it's the core of the entire PVE system

Rifts were annoying. They were all the same, a Rift pops and you kill the crap that pours out of it. The only thing that changed was the element of the enemies, but otherwise there was nothing interesting to them. Zone invasions were better, but only once you were done with the zone; when you weren't, they were also annoying, because they interfered with question.

GW2's events have a lot of elements that keep it exciting beyond simply killing things, sometimes bosses will appear that didn't previously, sometimes you'll lose and the event will go in another direction, etc. And since there's no quests and Heart Reknown can be completed regardless of what's going on in the area (if you're the type that even cares about filling hearts) the events don't get in the way. Ironically, even though the game is called "Rift", the nature of Rifts felt tacked on and gimmicky. GW2's events ~are~ the game, and are integral to the experience. It's a different animal. People will get bored of doing the same ones over and over sure, but people will get bored of repeating anything nonstop, drop it, then pick it up again much later when it's fresh again, just like I do every console game I own.

I explored most of early areas and for me it was not bad alternative to doing quests.

After going through areas I usually remember some harder groups events so later on when I feel the need for a bit more challenge, or just to kill some huge boss, I just teleport near where some of those events are and see if they are up.

If I want to do regular stuff wandering  around and doing  events as they appear is nice too.

As far as we know from devs later on there should be more and more of events. I guess we just have to go through later content to see for ourselfs.

I enjoy the dynamic events. I especially enjoy finding those rare events that very few people experience.

Events are common place, and the main source of your experience in PvE, other than your personal story. Most of the renown hearts guide you to event "hotspots" where many events may happen. Doing dynamic events around a renown heart may contribute towards the renown heart completion.

There are a wide variety of events, ranging rom simple collection events to raid-esque events where you have to defeat a large boss (Shatterer, Shadow Behemoth, etc.). Most of those large events are rare. There are some smaller events too. For example, in the human area I ran into a group of kids in a cave acting like characters from Guild Wars lore (Cynn, Mhenlo, Gwen, etc.), and I had to help them do something. It was in the second BWE I think, so I don't really remember what I did.

Some events involve on-going war with Centaurs or Ghosts or something. Those tend to reflect the conflicts of the zone/of your race, and later on conflicts of the entire world.

They are fun for now. They may grow stale in the future, as all things do. If ArenaNet keeps adding new events, and modifies existing events like they say they are, it may never grow stale. But it's still too early to tell.

I think there's a lot of room for the event system to grow in the future in susequent patches and expansions. For example, they might be able to add more variables to some events, or various events that take place in the events, and randomize it a bit. From what it sounds like Orr will be amazing, as it's all events. There are no renown hearts in Orr.

If they have zone wide events a la the BWE finales, it may be quite fun. I remember seeing ArenaNet talking about using events to make permanent changes to the world post-release in an interview (I think it was the Digital Gaudium interview).

What I don't like about them is that some of them seem to never occur. You could be waiting around in an area for an event, and maybe the trigger for it is something completely unknown to anyone in the area. So you run through the area, doing all the rest of the quests, and never know this one is there.

The result is that you end up WAY behind on questing... you can't do each quest just once and hope to hit lvl 20 - you end up having to repeat several of them multiple times.

i enjoyed the events pretty much. in fact i enjoyed some so much that i often visited some areas again and again to repeat those events if they happened there again.

btw in yesterdays stress test they added a bunch of new events (some pretty tough ones for a limited number of players like during the stress test). i guess i died more during the few hours yesterday than in the whole of TSW, but i had more fun during that few hours than in the whole of TSW too.

They're too damn distracting!!!!

Yesterday I was running around trying to discover some new areas for a little bit extra exp when I heard this girl begging for help. From her yells and cries, I deduced she was trapped somewhere underground, so I scanned the ground, found a hole and jumped in. I escorted her out of her cave and was clearing the path in front of her when I got distracted by yet ANOTHER DE. I went to check it out, saw a boss with minions, killed some minions, stayed maybe max 2-3 minutes. When I went back I had lost the girl! Kinda sad I didn't see how that event ended or what it chained into.

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this.

No, nothing like Rift'd, because Rift's were extremply repetitive. GW2's are not.

My overall opinion of DEs in this game though is that they are shit when shared by the zerg, but amazing when tackled in a small personal group.

The trouble is that right now most are judging them from only the zerg.

there is no quest order to get behind on. and you do not neeed to do every DE or heart in a zone to move on.

the only DE's i have done more then one time are the Meta DE's as i think they are fun

I absolutely LOVE the dynamic events. If I don't like one, I just don't bother with it. There is always something else going on. I never feel like I have to finish this stupid quest so I can get it out of my quest log like in EVERY other MMO out there.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

It really depends on the event in question. Often I didn't find them to be that "dynamic" tbh, with some notable exceptions.

For example: I think I fended off the bandits from the first farm in the human starter area, or the farm later on about 10 times at least, with pretty much the same happening each time.

Many of the most interesting consequences happened when an event failed, like when centaurs actually succeeded in taking the lands, instead of attacking that one outpost for the 5th time.

There were also some that were incredibly cool however, mostly the ones that end up taking you into a boss fight of some sort after doing various things leading up to that.

All in all, GW2 definitely brings a lot more variety and focus onto this "public event" kind of thing than previous games, it doesn't compromise itself by still going for mostly regular quests on the side, which is refreshing. It allows you to just walk into a random direction and do all sorts of things and gain XP while you just go to the places that seem interesting.

The content itself doesn't always work out perfectly, but that isn't the case for other games either.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

I agree, once the game gets off and running, the huge crowds will dispersed and DEs will work best. Even though the DEs scale, a huge group just seems to always have the advantage. 4 or 5 people will be perfect in my opinion, or just playing next to my 2 sons and daughter in law! :)

I enjoy them and the main difference between Rift and GW2 is that rifts became old hat because they were too generic.  Thus seen 5 seen em all.

Dynamic events are not like this because each event is custom made and additionally they spawn off other DEs and the chain of consequences is not the same.

In general the feeling is way different.  In rift you check your map to see if any rifts spawned and you might go there but you know as soon as you see that rift its mostly the same as every other rift you have already seen.  In fact you usually have seen all the rift types in that zone before you even finish.

While you may see the same a event a few times in a GW2 zone they are unique enough and often chaotic enough to still be fun after a few times.  But they also don't make later DE become old.

Rifts were generic and tighly bounded by a small circles and once they were closed that was it unless there was a zone wide event.  DE's are custom made, can span over areas in all sorts of different ways and maybe involved in a chain or spider web of causation.

Finally in Rift there were known spawn points so even that bit of unpredictability was not so amazing there was always a fire rift near the goblins or a wate rrift near that higher level city etc.
