Just a query:

Is an "overhyping" accusation on the same order of "have you stopped beating your wife yet?"

What is "short-term PvE" for some, is long, long-term PvE for others.  Not everyone burns through all available PvE content in a couple of months (or weeks) and, especially with GW2, not everyone is racing to get to level 80. Not everyone plays (or wants to play) MMOGs for the same reasons, and with the same playstyle.

 

I don't recall saying everyone did everything in the same way.

I'm saying that a lot of people who EXPECT to play the game in the long-term, whatever that may be for them, MIGHT be surprised in terms of how the game will actually turn out after you've gotten past the honeymoon period.

You.... just.... can't.... know.

Is the basic point.

For the record, I don't think the game will "fail" - and I think the OP title is silly. The only thing that I suspect will fail, is the game's ability to live up to expectations. Almost all games fail to live up to that when they're this hyped - so I have good reason to be sceptical.

What I find highly distasteful is when some individuals act as a game's self-appointed holy templars that smite down with insults and massive bullying anyone that has an opinion diferent than them.

 

There's a lot of that going on in GW2, as has been with D3, ToR, and about every other AAA title you can think of.

 

That's the real sad part of all the "overhyping", since these people think they are protecting their holy ground, and they're just pushing away people that are on the fence with their fanatism.

Reactionary threads like this don't solve the problem.  Anyone can tell you had an agenda: to push GW2's fans' buttons.  You succeeded, but it was obvious what you were doing and people reported you for it.  Are you any more satisfied with the quality of your life now?  Really?

But that's hardly a new POV here; according to this site, nothing ever can succeed.

Sorry DK, that's more directed at the atmosphere in general around this website recently, not at you.

Maybe time to just get out of this website for a while, until the next wave of negativity has passed.

People have right to look forward to something, even to get excited and hyped about something.

Just so long they do not insult and bully those who have diferent opinions.

At least there were some decent posts in this threads, which I honestly wasn't expecting.

I am sure Guild Wars 2 will "fail" for some... mainly because people have too high expectations. I have been in every beta event and enjoyed the game so much I didn`t want it to end (the Beta). I plan on playing GW2 for at least 2 years, maybe even longer (depends on the amount of content Anet well be able to pump into this game).

If ArenaNet can provide new content on a regular basis, I can see this game flourish for a very long time. In that case, there is not a game in the near future I will get hyped about.

*  Titan... no way in hell am I playing another Blizzard game.

*  Archage... not that great when you strip the GFX off of that game.

*  Blade & Soul... too Asian for me (kinda like Tera).

The only game being worked on that might hype me is World of Darkness...

all the rest is the same old junk.

Just my 2 cents. 

It's shame that players want some game to fail.

Don't you know that there are people with families working in those companies that make games and if some game fail they will most likely loose their job and their family is at risk of not beeing able to suvive?

This is just evil if you ask me. Same goes for any other game people want to fail

Clearly you don't get it. I was skeptical until I played BWE2 and then, the game does meet what A.Net was saying. What other company has promised a game and then delivered what they say they will? Can you name even one? I think A.Net is delivering what they say they would.

4-5 days to reach max? Really? I don't think so as there is so much to do and to look at, I will be taking my time and enjoying each and every minute. Also, remember this game has a feature wehere if you go back to a lower lvl area, you are scaled back, so it is just as enjoyable and you cannot one-hit foes then. You really need to understand the game before you actually put out an opinion - that make in an 'Informed Opionion' and that shows that you undstand the topic - obviously you dont.

It will not be the biggest fail - that already happened (TOR) - Tera will be close behind and I think TSW will be behind that.....

i can think of maybe TWO people that created overhyped threads -- and GW2 fans did *not* support them
