Originally posted by zaylin Yep, I totally agree. I mean, if it takes the developers 5-6 years to make a good game and then you end up playing the game 10 hours every day for a month. Chances are you will be fed up with it. This goes for everything, not just games. If you end up eating the same stuff for a whole month you will most likely be sick and tired of eating that same dish. ....its all relative. If we can calculate how long it takes a developer to make 1 hour of content of good material, compared to how long it will take a player to play this, then obviously devs don't stand a chance. So, if the devs actually make a good game, but the content cannot satisfy the hardcore gamer, then that is the hardcore gamers problem, not the developers. Point being, if a hardcore gamer thinks the game is playable, but lacks content then I would buy and play that game. Main reason being that I probably put down 5-10% of the time he is putting down. Which will no doubt give me a lasting experience. If on the other hand, hardcore gamers tell me that the game is bad because it has too little content(after a month of playing whole day long), I would still go for the game for the same reason I pointed out right above. Its about time to actually widen the line of sight and notice ALL the other players out there who are actually the majority, who content themselves by moderate game time. |

Originally posted by Lockthile The difference, though, between TSW and many other MMOs of the past (EQ, Lineage 1/2, WoW, etc. is that there is virtually no reason to start another character. You can do every build with 1 character, the story line is more linear than even games like Deus Ex. I played all the MMOs I listed there (and other I have not listed) for 5-10 hours a day for months (and some years), but TSW I have completed all content with 1 character, and have no reason to every try a second, because I know what happens and have access to all skill. The game itself is 7 or 8 / 10, which is great for a recent MMO. But the replay value is 3 or 4 / 10 (notice..this isnt a terrible thing, it just is one of the reason why I won't be subbing. Because even with the extras every month, itll just give me 10-15 hours extra play time a month, and going to the movies is cheaper than that. :) ) |

Monthly sub is $15. Movie Tickets are what? $8 - $12? A movie lasts for 2.5 hours tops. Two movies a month is $16 at the cheapest and gives 5 hours of entertainment. 10-15 hours of entertainment a month for 15 bucks is still cheaper than going to the movies. |

Originally posted by jdnyc Well, true, if you are going to AMC or Regal Cinemas or something :P I go to an independant theater and unless its something like Batman, Ill go a couple weeks after a movie is released, which their tickets for are $4, so 16 is 4 movies. Now that is about 8 hours of entertainment, which is pretty close to the 10-15 i suggested for the updates (we actually got everyone in our Cabal done with all the new content this update in 12 hours, individually it wouldve be less). Sorry that was a little confusing jdnyc, I shouldve explained :) |

Originally posted by dellirious13 Is that 12 hours from the new missions alone, or does it include the unlocked harder dungeon content? If it's 12 hours of mission time, and the missions are interesting, that's not bad for $15. But even then, would it be the kind of thing you would unsub for a couple of months to let the content "build up" before jumping back in to knock it all out in a month? Still, I guess that even this trickle is better than the nothing WoW has given since November of 2011. "Loading screens" are not "instances". |

Originally posted by Derpybird Yea, basically it was 12 hours including the 2 NM modes and checking all maps for completion/finding those couple missions that were readded from beta but werent on the list (getting everyone through them, etc). We have been working together since vanilla WoW though, so we have the teamwork part down pat, though. My Cabal is basically all quitting for 6 months now, and we have a joint account that we are keeping subbed so we can keep an eye on the new content. I personally think this update was worse than any update WoW has had since 2011 even. It was very superficial and just added to the grind...which i was never really a fan of. Thats why we quit WoW, because it turned into an instance grind....even fishing/mining/herbing turned into simplicity....I'm just hoping Blizz decides to forgo any more expansions and focus their time on WoW2 after MoP. And DOES NOT simplify anything. :) |

The game was intended to be a niche game. It's a sad day when "niche" means a million or more in the world of mmo's. At least at this point in time. I don't see many people liking this game but I do see it garnering a strong following. As long as they can pay the bills with some left over then that's all that matters. I wouldn't be surprised if it went f2p though as AoC has a f2p options. They'll probably add that at some point. |
