They try to do to GW2 what WOTLK did to Warhammer.

Essentially - but all signs point towards GW2's team being a good deal more competent than Warhammer's - I was a Warhammer beta tester - they would not listen to the game's faults.

I'm hoping MOP fizzles and is the brainless flop for once but I know brand-name and IP popularity alone will probably lead it to be the victory, quality be damned. (See D3's "success" though it's basically a Korean itam mall ARPG)

Well I'm not suggesting that it'll work, just that it's what they're trying to do.

Should be interesting, anyway.   MOP won't do as badly as people think, I believe.

and what exactly would that give you?

either play a game or dont, but seriously, why so much hatred for a game you do NOT play anyway?

"believe me, mike.. i calculated the odds of this working against the odds that i was doing something incredibly stupid… and i did it anyway!"

Seems a bit spiteful.  I'm hoping it does well simply because the people who enjoy the game deserve a great expansion.  If the WoW team worked hard and made a genuinely fun expansion, then it should be praised.

Though I think GW2 is strong enough to stand on its own, let the "kiddies" play their kung-fu panda expansion and I will happily explore, craft and WWW my way through GW2 ;D (having fun).

MOP will last a few months for the hardcore players and then they will start complaining about lack of content again, the wheel keeps spinning, and maybe just maybe people start realizing how "unfun" that wheel actually is...

I was a true blizzard fan in the past, played wow for about 6+ years with almost no hiatus but enough is enough GW2 might not be for the hardcore players but hey its fun! and guess what most MMO's arent really "fun" in the same league as GW2 for me atleast ;D (and ive played alot of MMO's)

Cynical Brit nailed it on a video the other day, the most important thing about MMO's are the memories we take away from them,  I mean I have alot of happy memories from early raiding in vanilla wow and even later but not to the same extent.

The point im trying to make is that it doesent really matter what game you are playing, if you are having fun ;D

A game should be fun from the start, not after 80 levels of grinding stressful play to get past the "filler" content, hopefully GW2 will deliver on that account (ive played 3 bwe's both stresstests and I allready feel ive gotten my money's worth of play)

Cant really remember the last time I had this much fun in a game,, Daoc maybe, wow was "fun" since all buddies where playing.

I just dont feel like supporting Blizzard after DIablo 3, ok game but nothing special and MOP wont touch my computer anytime soon if GW2 doesent totally dissapoint me but Im 99% sure it wont ;D

Mists of Pandaria is the most controversial expansion for WoW to date.  I cannot think of an expansion that has more people on the fence.  In the past, for the most part people raved about the expansions(TBC, WOTLK, and Cata).  Then, with the exception of TBC, within 3 months of the expansions release people were disenfranchised saying it was too hard or too easy, that they were bored with nothing to do, that the first tier of raiding was super easy(and subsequentially the following tiers as well), and that the game is the same game they have played for years...Get to max level, farm rep for gear, farm PVP for gear, farm Dallies for gear, farm Professions for gear.  Then raid or arena.  Thats it.  End of story.

Inject some pet battles and scenrarios and you might extend this another month or two.  Don't you say that Challenge Modes will lend the difficulty, progression, and sense of achievement that players are looking for.  The new endgame "content" is not nearly enough to keep these players satisfied for the long haul.  People will ultimtaely stay subbed to level an alt or two(because thats what really matters to Blizzard, your subscription...they really could care less about your enjoyment).

Blizzard is doing and has been doing nothing to counter the ever growing and changing MMO genre.  They are not innovative at all and take most of their ideas from other games, including the core of their game when vanilla released.  It took them years to put in AOE looting, when games have had this for a while, years to realize that people want something more than pvp or raiding at end game, years to realize that 99.9% of people no longer have terribad machines and they could actually handle a bigger graphic load(they are limited by their engine but they could have made improvements long ago(ahem even char models?!)).

The game is static, the game is dead despite the millions of nostalgic zombies that play it.  That is really the only reason people go back, nostalgia and the fact that their friends are still playing.

Look at aspects of other games that have released or will release which are eons better than what WoW does:

Tera- Combat.  Best combat and arguably the best graphics in the MMO genre.  AND the game runs flawlessly on most rigs.

Guild Wars 2 - Dynamic living breathing world.  Sure, the Heart events/renown events and Dynamic events somewhat mask the original archetype of a quest hub with quests and chains, but you really do not feel that you are still participating in the same monotony that you have been with previous MMOs.  Success or Failure with these events have even the smallest impact on the surrounding area.

Rift - Trion is a developer that listens to their community and frequently inject more content (and by frequently I mean every 3-6 months they either announce or release more content and game modes).  There are a half dozen different gaming modes and gaming systems to partake in at max level, and the gameis only 1.5 years old?

SWTOR - Put aside the fact that the game itself is piss poor and is probably the biggest disappointment in MMO history, Bioware did one thing right: The story.  The stories and archs are incredible with this game.

Four recently released or soon to be released games that do what WoW could only imagine.

MoP will flop in a matter of months...yes here is my post saying that the game will flop and you'll see flocks of subs going to other games.

This was just a post regarding the release date and not if the game is good or bad.  There was no reason to hijack it to express your opinions (as it stinks of a trollish nature); when you write something with the expressed purpose of trying to put something someone enjoys down (especially when the thread isn't about it), then that is both immature and shows a distinct lack of etiquette (I.E. trolling).

Aside from that, controversy is in fact one of the greatest exposures a game could get.  Even people who don't play MMOs are subject to the discussions of people who either love it or hate it to extremes.  More people know of it, and thus there is even more excitement.  Indeed, and this proven formula has just been enhanced over and over again as the game ages, with lessons learned from the past to fix things for the future.

Playing the WoW Beta, I can honestly say it's some of the best fun I've had in WoW in many years; it reminds me grealy of Vanilla, but without most of the hassle.   Just exploring the Valley of Eternal Blossoms is a breathe of fresh air and the artistic quality is superb.  It's a similar feeling I get with Guild Wars 2 and I will be eagerly playing both of these games side by side to combat any weary nature I may acquire from either of such.

So, if what you say is true (that every and any response to a forum thread should stay on topic and be topic related), then your post as well as anyone else's in this thread is completely irrelevant and should not exist.  The post was an announcement.  Nothing more. The OP stated the release date.  He did not open up the topic for discussion, yet a dozen people had weighed in their opinions about the release, some negative some positive.  Infact, this entire thread, and any like it, should not exist.  A forum is just that, an area to talk about and debate things.  The OP simply stated the announce date.  So symantically, no responses were solicited from the OPs post, yet people responded with their opinions and thoughts.  The fact that you didnt jump down their throats for stating their opinions, feelings, thoughts and emotions tells me that you are upset that someone could possibly dislike WoW.  That is the real issue you had with my post, that it was my OPINION (however negative) about a game that you fancy, yet it is viewed as a trolling post.  I whole-heartedly disagree with you that it resembled anything close to a trolling post.  It was a well thought out, well written opinionated post where I derived my opinion from 5 years of playing WoW.  I think I could go on and quote a dozen people in this thread alone that posted their thoughts and feelings about the release date.  Am I not allowed to do the same?

Refering to a segment people as "kiddies"?  Hard to take anyones opinion or comments seriously.  When they can't even make it without insulting a group of people in the very first sentence.

Glad to see MoP has a release date.  Have to say though, I expected it to be in Ocotober.

In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.

Please learn how to use paragraphs (or at least spaces); the whole time I read that it felt like I was grading a paper written by a young teenager.  With that said, the fact that you spent time out of your day in which to write a wall of text specifically centered to get a point that you hate WoW and to ruin the experience of someone who may or may not be excited for it was the cause of your folly.  It did not represent you well, and simply made you look like a jaded, off-topic, troll with nothing better to do with his or her time.

There is a certain sort of etiquette that *should* be followed on the forums.  While the happenings of such are very infrequent, those who represent themselves as you have are a part of the problem.  Any and other negative feedback, good or ill, was represented in a quick fashion; it showed their disinterest while still respecting those who came here to discuss the simple issue of a release date.  You showed no such courtesy, and thus I treated you like a child.  Again, I am doing such as I have seen nothing to indicate that you are an adult who is ready to discuss the topic at hand.

The release date of 9/25/12 is a big topic for people, and they could do without your negative retort.  You could have acted like a mature individual, expressed your displeasure with the game in a manner most respectful, and then sign off with a hope that people who enjoy the game still like it.  You did not do such.  Instead, you continue to make yourself look bad by not acting your age.

I have the utmost confidence that you are able to express yourself in an appropriate manner; I enjoy reading about other people's worries and concerns.  I relish in the fact that there is such a diverse community with different thoughts and feelings.  Though at the same time, there are those who do not exhibit the necessary maturity when it comes to posting on forums.  They post without thought or reason, and tear down something with rage and bias as opposed to wishing the best to others, staying on topic, and expressing their opinions in an informed and positive manner.

Therefore, I would ask that if you respond to me again that you do so in an appropriate way.  I love diversity of opinion; it's part of my career to analyze such things.  Heck, it's what gives me a job.  Though said opinions that I deal with as part of my career are peer reviewed and mature.  Perhaps it is my own fallacies to expect others to act in the same way, or to display simple courtesy when addressing something that others may enjoy.

Hope you have fun with whatever games you do enjoy.

Refering to a segment people as "kiddies"?  Hard to take anyones opinion or comments seriously.  When they can't even make it without insulting a group of people in the very first sentence.

Glad to see MoP has a release date.  Have to say though, I expected it to be in Ocotober.

Yeah, I originally cringed when I saw that.  Though shrugged my shoulders and let it go since he put it in quotations.  It wasn't nearly as bad as someone writting an essay just to downplay someone who enjoys the game.  Also, he hoped the people who still played will have fun.
