I got so much |
I am trying to decide what race/sex i will chose for each class i will play. Decision largely made based on how badass they will look. Now I know starting armor you get is based on character race and class. But will all armors after that have looks that are specific to that class ? For example will cloth armor look same on elementalist and mesmer ?

Armour on a sylvari will look slightly different to the same armour on a human. a guardian will look like a guardian though. |

Yes. But will cloth armor look same on male human Elementalist and male human Mesmer ? Or medium armor same on ranger and thief ? |

Kinda; Armor is based on Race/Sex, not Class. Class is limited to armor type, such as light, medium or heavy. I plan on playing each class, and so I compiled a bunch of screenshots I took of character select that shows high level armor. Below is my rankings in both Race/Sex first and Class first. Dulfy also has a great post here that shows screenshots of all the dungeon armor and race specific armor. Since I'm going to have 1 of each class (can't decide what to play, so will play them all), how good a class looks was my deciding characteristic when chosing a race/sex combo. Now I just need to go through her post real well and rank the classes by that! EDIT: MMORPG does not seem to like the links (adds mmorpg.com to them) so I've removed that part of the post. |

Originally posted by Lobotomist if its the same piece of armour then yes, but if its class specific then obviously not. if we are both cloth wearers and we both pick up the same piece of cloth armour from a random mob then yes it will look the same. |

Originally posted by Lobotomist They will look the same. I'll make the assumption that they will have class specific armor though stylized for that class, but I have yet to see anything official / screens of something like this. |

Originally posted by Lobotomist Some look different, some don't. Some just scale to different races. Some light armor will look the same on an elementalist and mesmer. Some won't. Many also have different styles catering more towards the aesthetic of different classes. Here is a good baseline for some of the looks ingame, hope it helps: It doesn't have a lot of the ingame armors, but it features many of the big ones (aside from the sPvP ones). |

I'm fairly sure armors are NOT profession-specific, but instead divided by light/medium/heavy. Meaning, if you have a set of light armor, it would always look the same on human female characters, whether they were elementalist, necromancer or mesmer. In the same way medium armors would always look the same regardless of whether your character was a thief, ranger or an engineer. Of course they may look different depending on your race, though sylvari, humans and norn seem to share a lot of armor skins.
There are race specific armors though (cultural armors) that can only be worn by a member of that specific race. These are also divided into light/medium/heavy. |

Originally posted by aesperus Do you have screens to back that up (the part where some armors look different on different classes even if they are the same race/sex)? I ask less as a challenge and more as a I've not seent his and would like to see examples. |

Originally posted by maddbomber83 I was mostly referring to the racials, but when it comes to different classes you don't see this with armor sets, but there are certain pieces (I've only seen this on helms). And no, I don't have any screens, only the link above, which has a lot of the armor sets, but none of the specialty gear you get from doing other things like quests, crafting, events, or PvP. |

Yes, they will look the same because they're the same race, sex and armor class (in this case light armor). :) |
