GW2 feels very grindy honestly. Lets say I dont enjoy PvE and want the game for WvW. The problm is if I come into WvW at level 1, will be forced to GRIND to unlockmy weapon skills, and no telling how long that will take if I dont waste time killing PvE NPC in WvW which is boring
And in WvW leveling is very inconsistent. sometimes you can spend hours in WvW and not gain a single level. Not even half a bar.And there is no way to switch teams without paying since WvW is server based. level 1-10 alone feel very grindy. I was forced to go to PvE to get faster exp, and that also was slow and a big boring grind. Using Events to level feel as grindy as using events to level in Rift. Than its easy to run out of events in your level range which forces you to repeat events (aka Grinding) and grinding mobs for EXP.
I know some people say, slow leveling pace is a good thing, but I GREATLY disagree... The whole gameplay has a 10 slot action bar. creating interesting builds are a majoy feature in this game. But the Action Bar is restricted by levels. If you dont grind levels, you dont unlock your bar, which means you wont have full access to build creating. This makes PvE very boring since I am forced to kill mobs using the same few spammy skills over and over. Honestly, I dont see the point of restricting the action bar by levels. Just nothing but a major time sink, since Structured PvP allow players to instantly gain access to all their skills from level 1. why not the same for PvE and WvW? Nothing but a boring Time Sink Grind.

I feel the exact opposite. Opposite meaning, there's no grind at all ... I just go into the world and do stuff - and there's a lot of it to do. In the process of doing stuff, my character progresses. If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game. |

I hit level 30 over the weekend. This game is the furthest from grind you could ever possibly get.

[mod edit] You have posted enough to know that there are serious flaws with your statements.
1) You can unlock the skills for all weapons in a class in a matter of 1-2 hours. 2) every class can swap out weapon skills in some manner. If you play an elemenatlist you have well over 20 active skills. Engineers with multiple weapon kits is extremely complex and can have over 30 active skills. Everyone will have at least around 16-18 active skills when you consider class mechanics(which you must). Going on about the 10 slot skills bar is something I am pretty sure you must understand by now is very off base. 3) you can get to level 30 in probably 30-40 hours of playing. This gets you all the way up to your elite.
I know people who got to level 30 in this BWE from 1 and they only did WvW. Was this the fastest way? No I know a few people who made to 30 in less time played. But WvW xp is definitely significant.
The only thing to reasonably complain about is traits. Which are important. As you will not max out traits until level 80.
This game is not grindy at all you progress very nicely at good pace. If you want to be level 80 in 2 days sure you are SOL outside of sPvP. And if they made the game that way it would almost certainly fail. I mean come on how many games give you a maxed out level and gear immediately for match-play PvP. I mean this is getting preposterous. |

We have very different definitions of "grindy". "Loading screens" are not "instances". |

Well bud first of all you're on the wrong forums. If you really wanted to voice your opinion to the developers then this should go on a thread on the GW2 Beta forums. Second, you're in the minority since for a lot of people it's not grindy at all and even more they enjoy it as it is, I got to level 30 in just 1 BWE, that's more than enough to get a good start on WvWvW in terms of skills, traits and gold. And lastly because of what was just mentioned it's probably not going to change, tough luck for you. Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more. |

That is a very valid complaint, would you like me to respond as if I don't know the meaning behind this thread or would you like me to respond to you as I do? My first response : End Game pvp is the name of the game, be happy they let you join before hand or find another game. My second :

It's one of the least grindy MMORPGs ever devised in my opinion. SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever! |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRHC-RyGCU8 is a good video showing you the many ways to gain XP.. if you find GW2 grindy in a sense you are probably sticking to a single form of XP gain. Luckily in gw2 you have several ways to gain xp to keep yourself from getting that grindy feeling. I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg |

I think the game is great at making you do everything to get exp, I did a little bit of everything and was in perfect sink to where my personal story was going. Why do you want to level faster? What would you gain by being able to level faster? Thats one of the problems with MMO's that have been coming out recently I think they go too fast, racing to the end and then complaining about nothing to do isn't fun. |

I kind of you agree with you OP.
I kept roaming around exploring looking for new stuff, but I definitely found myself having to repeat things in order to try to level up for the latest things I had found. I was usually a good 2-3 levels lower than the events I was doing if I were trying to keep things fresh.
I think maybe I was just doing something wrong since people say they get to lvl 20 or so in 4-5 hours. I spent around that time with 2 of my buddies and we only got to like level 6 or 7 one night. It seemed like helping my friends do their story-line quests was absolutely pitiful xp gains.
Having said that, it seemed like running around solo the next day saw my xp gains increase considerably. Even still, it felt like I had to repeat events in order to keep up with the new content I was reaching.
I dunno, maybe there's some secret to leveling, but I couldn't figure it out. Personally, I wasn't really in a hurry to level up. My only problem with that approach is the absolute lack of joy in gaining a level outside of the few levels where you got a new skill slot. |

Dude you clicked on your WoW.exe out of habit again. That wasnt GW2 you played through the weekend. 'Seamless world' - A world lacking visible or phys. seams, forming forced breaking points during transition and movement;

Can't agree with the OP, it doesn't feel grindy at all for me.
And even if it did.... i would still enjoy it, never hated to grind in MMOs.

I guess the only way straight WvWvW leveling would be slow, was if you were not killing anybody. If your standing around getting your $@#% pushed in, then chances are good that you won't get very far very fast. Being consistent with kills, killing blows and healing / rezing will earn you plenty of XP at a very decent clip.
Also remember to take advantage of the fact that the WvWvW area's also have Vista's and POI's to uncover for free XP. All this is assuming the original post isnt just a troll... |

Level wise, I don't find it grindy at all, I had fun the entire time I played through out all the betas, and only ever found myself under levelled after doing plenty of content in the first beta.
I will however agree that the weapon skill/utility skill slot unlocking system as is it currently is, can feel kinda lame at times.
It mostly sucks when you get everything unlocked on one character, and get the feel for the profession, then have to do it all again for another character, when you really want to play the character closer to its fuller potential from the start.
It's nothing game breaking, and is really only a problem in wvw and pve... But I think anet might be able to improve that early level process a bit over time in the future. |

I think whether a game is grindy or not is a relative term if you enjoy the content that exists in a game world you won't see it that way which leads me to wonder if GW2 is for the op, if you don't like the game up until end game. |
