Other positioning targeting combat systems have managed it, so can't see why GW2 can't. I do like it, but in some respects combat is sloppy. |

Originally posted by Lobotomist During the last beta week end, I was able, at level 15ish, to run all the way from Black Citadel to Divinity's Reach. That included going through an area with level 35 mobs. I did just fine by sticking to the roads. The mobs aren't that packed, they may be more dense in the first areas so newbies can find what they look for more easily. |

Have to agree, I'm not finding it hard to avoid mobs, while on the move. Going afk can be kind of interesting, at times.

Most of those boars you are talking about in GW2..they are friendly unless you attack them, they attack you. |

As for using waypoints to afk. Seems its only way. But I would not teleport myself to waypoint (and need to backtrack) everythime i want to answer somebody in chat. |

Originally posted by Masa1 [mod edit] OP's complaints are probably legit, while I haven't played GW2 yet, I recall titles such as Rift being annoying when you couldn't run 10 steps anywhere without having to batte through it. Even now in TSW there are places which are just darn annoying because I've got to grind my way just to go 50 yards, there are other ways to add challenge to mmo's besides throwing sheer numbers at players. No safe zones could be annoying, I too tend to be a text chat person vs voice, but it does seem hard to believe there aren't any "seams" where you can find a few minutes respite. Camera views, does sound a bit annoying, but heck, as an old healer who's used to staring at small boxes on my screen, actually viewing whats going on in the game world still probably is an improvement.

There's a new level 15-25 zone in the game for this beta, and there was this huge swathe of it where it was literally ALL non-aggressive monsters. We were sort of weirded out! We were just running around until our natural psychopathy took over and we just started slaughtering innocent animals. :( I didn't really notice there being too many enemies, but that might just be because of all the brutal slaughtering my friends and I did. It's like we had a 120 foot radius of death around us at any given time. :/ So can't comment on that (Other than the weird huge area in the new 15-25 zone that was all passive enemies, and they didn't seem too dense) So far as finding places to log off, I've found it's dangerous to log off just anywhere without forethought (I fell asleep while playing once... I was in a town area, but I still died exactly 9 times before I came back (I was only wearing my boots). There was apparently a rare dynamic event that'd have enemies attacking it. :) Great places to log off? Think vertical. Any sort of area like the vistas are hidden in are basically great places to AFK for as long as you feel like it. A useful tip!

Originally posted by Lobotomist 1) I didn't find this to be the case, it is quite easy to avoid combat moving through a map, certain areas are obviously more dangerous than others. If you are trying to run through an event you may have some issues though. 2) I think this is a positive and not a negative. Why would it ever be safe to stand around idle 50 meters away from a dangerous encampment, or sit around idle in a village constantly under threat of invasion? If you want to be safe you can teleport to a home city, thats why they have instant teleportation. 3) Camera seems the same as most other MMOs I have played. Haven't really had an issue with this. 4) It is a theme park. This isn't really a negative as most players prefer them. There is no need to disguise what it is, the game isnt built around player made content like a sandbox. |

1. Typical MMO-Problem - if there are not enough mobs to kill, players get annoyed by the fact that they need to search for action. If there are too many mobs, players cannot move freely through the world. Quick respawns may have been the result of to many players in one zone. Eventually, this is something the devs can change pretty easily, if players complain about it. 2. I saw a lot of people standing around in the middle of nowhere. Maybe you had just bad luck and were standing in the zone of a DE? 3. You are right. 4. I just do not get the "themepark-argument". When EQ2, WoW, D&D, Vanguard, WAR, Lotro, AoC and RoM came out, nobody critisized these games for being to "themeparkish". So what's the deal with GW2 now? Sounds like people want to critizise GW2 for no reason, so they critizise it for just being what it is supposed to be. The only MMO that I would blame in such a way would be SWtoR, because they just made WoW in space, instead of trying to make an original SIFI-MMO. And this misconception was definitely the root of all problems they are having now. 5. Yeah, the Mesmer still needs some love. It is very different compared to GW1, but has a lot of cool features. But hey, all the professions still need some balancing. However, I saw a video where a raid in WvWvW used the teleport of the Mesmer to sneak into a castle past the enemy siege weapon fire.
Btw my favorite "bad" things about GW2: 1. No mounts. 2. No playernames in WvWvW. 3. No innovation in crafting. 4. Personal story still too straight forward. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. |

Originally posted by Mahavishnu I have to disagree with this one. Mesmers in general are fine, its just some of the weapons got nerfed a lot this beta weekend. Previous favourites sword and greatsword now do nearly no damage. Staff and scepters / pistol were doing really well though this weekend - mostly due to shatters and conditions being boosted. I agree that there is a lot of balancing still to be done with some weapons / classes though. I want to be a double dagger thief, but only the ranged weapons seem viable at the moment.
