Well was in beta of Gw2 for 4 months or more and i cant manage to get past first zone becasue the game looks so bad with maxed out graphics. Even forcing AO and Aniostroping makes it bearable. Problem is with the consistency of the models, textures and shaders. Game feels like it was developed 5 years ago. Art sure is amazing but what if the models look so simple it bleeds your eyes out and lack of proper shadows kills the immersion. After playing TSW on max details in dx11 + teslation with 60-100 fps in any zone or mass pvp (150+ ppl) w/o fps drop below 60 EVER. In GW2 if you max out everything the game strugles like it wants to die, and it dont really looks good or anything. It feels like it was done for 5 year old hardware. No mater how good PC you got it wont make much of a diference.
Maybe it gets slightly better later on but i just cant make myself play a game that forfits such obvious benefits of using modern technology like sinple ambient occlusion or high resolution textures, natural looking trees, shaders etc... Leader of Excessum Gaming Community www.excessum-gaming.com |

game runs well here but i got a pretty good rig... DX11 usually gives "worse" performance in games or pretty much the same performance as dx9 but you get some nifty effects in dx11 dx9 cannot do. I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg |

I think the modeling is done well, but it does have less polygons than some recent releases. Like TERA for example.
They keep the polygon count low to help facilitate WvW where you can have hundreds of people on the screen at the same time. SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever! |

Hmm, really not sure what the problem is here, If the game looks amazing (it does) and plays amazing (does on my 4 year old computer) I am not sure why it matters what version of directX they are using to get the visuals and performance they have in the game. Guess i am just easy to please. Lolipops ! |

Character models are alright, apart from lack of SOAO that makes them look more flat than they really are till you force it through the nvidia inspector.
Real issue is the consistency of the models especialy trees that look like from last decade games and textures in many places being blury and more.
Its simply the lack of proper shadowing and lightning we expect in modern games. Its not something you will see in dx9 game, but you can make a dx9 game look much better than that. Shat i dont get why is a game looking this poor runing this slow. I get inconsistent 30-60fps with maxed details on 690OC Gforce, 16GB ram , i7 5ghz water cooled, SSD HDD for only the gw2 etc. With this rig i get 60-100 FPS in TSW with no lower than 60 fps in 150+ pvp fight in a game that is runing in true dx11 with SOAO, AA, AS, Teslation, Advanced Shadowing, lightning, modeling and more making the whole game really consistent and not feeling anywhere out of place. What i dont get is how game far superior technicaly is runing so much faster than a game that is runing on few years old tech. If its not bad coding, or lazy ness then what is it ?
Dont get me wrong. I really like some things about Gw2 gameplay, art and more. But from GFX technical and peformace view the game is unoptimised and unconsistent.
I would like to add id rather see a game not trying to be overly over the top with technical fireworks as long as its graphical design is very consistent and even in the whole game. Gw2 is not. DX 10 & 11 are nothing but Microsoft and NVIDIA/AMD gimmicks.
DX9 can look and perform as well or better than 10 or 11.
Don't place all your money on a feature you know nothing but marketing hype about.

They simply are not designed for a game that is not using half of their features makign the gpu run at 30-40 % of its capacity, becasue its not using the gpu elements designed for handling teslation, advanced sharers, shadows, and all the dx11 goodies.
