I'm trying to find an answer for this, I know GW1 was mainly about PVP at endgame (I stopped playing before any of the GW1 XPacs as I moved to WoW) but I much prefer PVE. Does GW2 force you play to PVP to be viable or is there 5 mans, raids etc. I know there is no healer class as such so I'm guessing this isn't going to be possible in which case it may not be for me. Welcome any comments |

It will have some really hard 5 man dungeons but no instanced raids. All PvE adventuring with more than 5 players will be in the open world, you can however get huge bosses with 100 players involved and they are not unsimilar to EQs open raids. For good and bad did ANET decide that 5 man dungeons and the personal storyline should be the instanced PvE content of the game. I hope that answers your question. |

I don't mean to sound rude, but a simple search would have netted you about a dozen of threads worth of debates on just this topic. So I'd recommend doing so at first, or checking out the "Mass info for the uninitiated" thread stickied at this discussion forum. You'll find answers to your questions there, as well as a lengthy debate back and forth about those answers. Any answers you'll get here will follow just about the same pattern.
Edit: weird enough, a search doesn't show ANY threads along those lines. I'm sure I've seen about a dozen of them though... Ah well. Still, check out the mass info topic. ;) |

No raiding and the dungeons you can do at any time once you get to the level of them the first time. There is no gear grind like other MMOs and it is much more open ended. Content is not gated by gear like other MMOs and ArenaNet is not just baiting people into playing the game by increasing the statistics of there character to pay a monthly sub. Honestly at this point if you are looking for a raiding game, you should look at the games that are out right now. The best options are probably WoW or Rift for raiding. SWTOR raids are not challenging and anything else that has decent raiding is much older. Raiding is a dated mechanic and the idea of instanced raiding (instanced, atleast) is probably going out the window for any game that wants to make a good amount of money and be considered a success at the same time by the masses. Progression MMOs are not going anywhere though, but raiding might be/is. The progression is slowly starting to focus on smaller and smaller groups for content. The big raiding in the games I mentioned is more focused on 10 man then 20+ man raids. SWTOR 8 man. Soon enough the concept of raiding will just be harder 5 mans. (Which is amazing in most people's eyes anyways) |

There are dungeons for goups of 5. Due to auto-scaling, all dungeons remain playable at max level. There are no raids in the sense of instanced, large-group content arranged in multiple tiers of gear progression with a weekly lock-out and super-hard difficulty. That type of raiding doesn't exist in GW2. There are raids in the sense of huge boss fights with various mechanics/objectives that require an organized group to succeed. Elite Events fill that spot. They require a ramp-up to actually trigger the fight, and the fights are multilayered and require groups to coordinate several different actions for maximum effect. We don't know yet what the final difficulty tuning for those will be, so far we only saw the undertuned versions at trade shows. It is unlikely they will be tuned as hard as high-end hard mode raids. |

Originally posted by Naqaj Good point. There is raiding but more in the oldschool EQ style raiding. Outdoor content. Who knows how challenging it will be though. I doubt it will be as hard as instanced content, but if you want people to complete content that scales based on the number of people it is hard to...well, make it hard. |

Their target for the difficulty tuning of those events is that an unorganized group should fail the event. We'll see how well they reach that target in a month :) |

As others have stated, there is no traditional raid grinding for gear. There are still raids, but they are more like excavations. They are limited to five people per party but are also balanced for five people, and so, should not be thought of as "easier" than traditional raids. Each dungeon has three modes. The primary one is the story mode, which can only be completed once unless you are helping someone with their story... The last three are different variations of accomplishing an objective.
If you prefer dozens of people to take on a raid, then epic dynamic events should suit you. Epic dynamic events are just events that have a very long chain and require a minimum amount of people to stand a chance.
It is different from your general mmo, but it makes a lot of sense.
Take any other mmo for instance. Why is it that in the OPEN world, your party is limited to 5 or so people, yet in the INSTANCE world, you are required to have 30 people in a party? Would it not make more sense to say... have a high party limit in the free open world and then limit the party size in closed instances? It's just like... why do we play mmo's, yet fight for kills and loot? Why design a game to hold thousands of players yet have the core mechanics set so that each player DOESN'T want to play with the other. |

Thanks for the replies guys and really good news. It sounds like this game is perfect for me, I don't have the time or the inclination to grind anymore but I do enjoy a good boss fight over and above the smaller traditional say 5 man. I like the sound of the outdoor stuff and not being bared by gear etc This really does sound like a deffo purchase, but I'm sure I'll have all this confirmed once the beta gets going :) |

GW2 has as endgame : Dungeons: dungeons for teams of 5 players instanced with several routes in it. Orr: great land filled with meta events to conquer.
furthermore the whole world in pve is endgame: since you're character is downleveled to the area where they in. (downlevelling means that the foes will stil be though to fight . you won't loose max health or skils when playing in a lower level area, also you still will get normal exp. for it. overall this make it together that in the end you are not forced at all to a few high level area's of the world where you only can gather experience ). gear gathering; there several ways in the game to get gear, but it's pure estatic . gw2 is a game of skill not of gear. one example of getting special gear in looks at end game is through the mystical forge. where you can put in materials from all over the world together with skillpoints you gather through leveling and tests.
gw2 forces you completly not into pvp. you're free to do what you want . I've played 2 beta's now only in pve.
my experience is that in gw2 is that you got complete freedom to level how you want to. there is a storyline (3 for each race) but how you go through it and on what level is you're own decission. On the raiding; There are none: only events that are happening in an area are scaled to amount of the players that are in the area of the event at that moment. still this never will be like a raid. finally on the classes: yes there is no healer class. gw2 decided to step out of the trinity idea. all classes can support the teams on his own way. a ellemental for example can do several kind of heals spells in water attument. but also some other stuff . guardian on the other hand can form temporal force shields and also some boons. , ranger have some heal skills but also traps and skills to slow down foes. . also you can dodge attacks . you're more on the move in a battle attacks can miss in the battle . all with all the pve part of guildwars 2 has alot
also finally like the other one said . search the internet on this subject and you will find the answers. putting in gw2 in youtube and get tons of video;s also with diccussion on endgame. also take a look at this vid on twitch that explains endgame quite a lot. http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/b/324689481

check out my sig lots of info in there
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg |

Also keep in mind one of the key features of 5-mans in GW2: the multiple paths. Unlike a WoW dungeon where you complete it the same way every time (and far too often than you'd probably like, at that), once you have completed the story mode of a dungeon, you are free to choose alternate paths, leading to different experiences, bosses, challenges, and even gear. Honestly, it's about time someone did it that way. What fun is a dungeon that's just point A to point B? Labyrinths FTW. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

If you need to be driven by a goal like grinding gear to be better than the other guys, then GW2 is not for you and you should stick with WoW or Rift. I'm not being offensive btw, WoW and Rift is both good games that has their stuff going for them. |
