Hi,

I'm just debating whether I should buy this game or not.   I've already purchased GW2 which is coming out on Aug 28.  So I don't know if I want to spend the money to buy this game to play just for a month.

I've read some other threads about there is no end-game or anything like that. or the game is too short  I don't really care about end-games.  I'm a casual and slow player.  I figured that they will have some more stuff put in by the time I actually get to the level cap.

I would of bought the game by now but since knowing that GW2 is a month away, I'm not sure if buying the game is worth the money.    The stories and setting seems interesting and it's not a fantasy setting like GW2 which is good for me to have two different type of mmo to play.

Anyway, so to all the curret players...is it worth the $50?  Will I get sick or tired of it within a month?  Or will there still be more interesting stories and zones for me to explore after a month?

Sorry to bug you guys about this.  Thanks.

Yes, its definably worth its value, With enough content to sustain.(endgame, group, single)

But sounds like your going to be content with guild wars to so you should just save your money.

If you have the money to spend to play this in addition to or up until GW2, I would definitely do it.  Being a slow and casual player you probably wont get through the whole game before GW2, and if you enjoy good suspense/horror type stories you won't get tired of it.

This game is the highest rated released game on this website for a reason.

Edit: In response to the above poster, don't listen to him.  The bugs are very few and far between, the biggest ones being fixed already.  Even if you do encounter a 'bugged' quest, theres nothing stopping you from coming back to it later. Usually they are only bugged because other people are trying to do them at the same time and it messes them up.

Sigh stop spreading these rumors.

There are approxximately 10, if that, bugged quests in the ENTIRE game.  MOST of those can be completed by going to an instance that it is working.

There are a couple other "game" bugs that affect SOME people but not a majority.

To the OP:  As a casual player you'll find a lot of time and enjoyment in it.  If you don't it I would recommend looking at the Steam summer sale that has The Longest Journey and Dreamfall for $13 bundled that will give you a great idea of how Funcom does story in TSW.

This game is awesome, far superior to GW2. I have done the first 288 quests and completed them all. 4 were bugged but I just went back and completed them the next day.

It depends on what you define as "worth it," and what you like in a game.  I probably played TSW about 20 hrs before I got tired of it, but I think 20 hrs is worth the money to me (especially when I can drop $50 bringing my wife to a movie).  If you're tight on cash, I would hold off till GW2 as I had more fun playing GW2.  Don't get me wrong, TSW is a good game and I had fun playing it; however, GW2 seems better to me.  Everyone has their own opinion, though...

I have one major complaint about TSW.  I got into the story and all the side quests, but there are many that "can" be bugged.  It's pretty frustrating working through it all and stumbling across many quests that are bugged.  Pretty much any quest that has to spawn something has a chance to be bugged.  When you work through multiple tiers of a quest to find that last tier is bugged, it's quite annoying.  To the person who said they completed over 200 quests and only 4 were bugged, I would say LUCKY!  It's really hit-or-miss with the bugged quests, but for me it was more in the miss category.

Check Amazon, there are boxes available for just $29.40 and up (check the other buyers section). That is nothing for a month of fun :)

If you don't mind the 50$ and like the setting: yeah sure give it a try !

But don't play it like an MMO, enjoy it like a coop horror game with some nice twist. That's what i do (also waiting for GW2 ^^) and i'm not disapointed.

Well worth the box price plus the sub...

Im a casual player maybe a few hours a night and im just about getting to the 3rd area of the firt zone.. really enojying it so far..

Not sure what that guy is on about saying its full of bugs... if it is then i must just be very very lucky, only bugs i have seen so far are a few bugged out quests but got around those by grouping up with people on another server..

Quests and stories that go with those quests are some of the best i have seen in any MMORPG i have played. Combat despite what some people say is pretty fun and just as good as any other ta target system.

As for content, well after the first month im still not out of the first area, also funcom have said they will be releasing content monthly.

So yeah i would say it well worth picknig it up, if your still not sure try and get hold of a buddy key and give the game a go :)

I'm loving the game myself, but there are a LOT of bugged quests in the game. A minor annoyance, but it's there.

I have not noticed to many bugs.

Been playing for 2 weeks now, and I am very satisfied so far and will probably sub for another month, then take a break playing GW2 before coming back to TSW in October.

TSW probably has around 125-200 hours of regular mission content (depending on playstyle) and has PvP, dungeons in three difficulties and lairs in addition. For less than 50$ it gives good value for money in my eyes. If you get more than a months worth of gaming out of it really depends on how much you play and if you like the dungeons and pvp. Regarding the bugs, I haven't ran into any yet with about 30 hours of /played time.

Get the game if you want interesting and diverse questing and like figuring things out. Personally I love trying to figure out a good build while questing and getting spooked in the amusement park of Savage Coast. ;)

It was worth the purchase for me. Since you already purchased GW2 though if you're hard up for cash I would wait. Simply because you alraedy have a game that is going to take up a lot of your time in a few weeks. Then when you start yearning for something different check out TSW then. Hell, they may even have a free trial out by that time.

Personally, I'm going to be splitting my time between GW2 and TSW myself.

The longer you wait the more bugs that will be fixed and content in the game anyways so really no rush.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Last night/today the frist one finsihed the ability wheel 100%. It took him 13 days and some hours. Thats way more then 300 hours. And he is crazy, because he was online for 78% of all online time since early start.

No, don't buy

Why not? Well, I like the game. A lot. BUT I also will admit it has issues. I can deal with them because for ME, they are outweighed by the good.

But if you are still on the fence... then obviously, you are either to slow and dimwitted to have gotten invited to the beta OR you were just not intrested enough in the game to try it out during public beta.

So, the pros probably aren't that important for you. So they won't outweigh the negatives. So this isn't the game for you.

Negatives

Confusing deck system

Bugs

Heavy system demands

Boring combat

No special incentives for PvP

Cash store

Positives

Innovative strategy with the deck system with tons of depth

Gorgeous design

Fascinating combat where you can always try something else

No special incentives for PvP making it just for the fun of it and no point huggers

Outfits just for looks and not for e-penis weaving.

The positives have been long known and for you, they have not yet triggered "goddamn, must have that game". So... that is pretty clear isn't it?

Anyway GW2 is fun too. Play that for a while, then when TSW has a free trial, try it. The bugs (which really are rage inducing on occasion) will be gone then. Much better chance you will like the game then.

I presume "was" is literal? If a guy dies after 40 hours diablo, this guy must be a zombie.

Last time I checked http://chronicle.thesecretworld.com nobody had finished filling out the ability wheel, even if some were pretty close. The one at #100 in most xp has only gotten 63% of the abilities unlocked.

The best part of this is that unlike some games where you have to grind to get up at a good power level, this games has a lot of horizontal progression the last 70-80% of the ability wheel. In other words, it's a game where which has a long progression that isn't grindy (unless you want to grind).

That guy did complete the wheel, but as posted before, he was online around 78% of the time since EA.

I can't remember the name it's Methesomething, but you probably can find his chronicle in the congratulations thread on the main forums.

I don't think many people spend near to 80% of the time online playing one single game.

Edit: http://chronicle.thesecretworld.com/character/Maraethal  Chronicle hasn't updated yet.
