Ever notice how easy it is to avoid a mob? Just jumping onto a rock only so high above the ground and they cannot reach you and just run away back to their spot. Pathetically easy, right? Okay, so the exception of ranged mobs that can fire things at you, but they're ranged, they still cannot physically move to you.
This is why I think that mobs/creeps need to have a jump ability and get to a certain hight before retreating from the player. Now, I'm not saying that they should be doing the advanced jump puzzles or something like that. No, instead they should have a 2 jump max move to get to the player.
Most prevalent example of this issue is the Griffins in the Wx3 Dungeon just past the Dark Room. These Griffins, which have wings, can't even reach players that are on the first rocks. This is just wrong for the trap and is widely conceived as broken. These Griffens should have an attack radius on an X, Y, and Z axis that allows for them to go above the ground and attack the players to a certain degree. Certainly there shall be limitations, but there's got to be extensions as well.
So, "To jump or not to jump?", that is the question...

Are you 100% positive GW2 doesn't already have some that do?

In City of Heroes... the Ninja mobs would jump up onto walls with you or to spots on building close to you if you were flying. It was HILARIOUS to watch b/c of how abrubt the jump pathing was.
Not sure how I feel about it in GW2 but it would beat the hell out of this "Invulnerable" flagging crap they get right now that sticks with them for way too long AFTER you've already gotten down on the ground with them |

First, not all enemies can do all things. Bandits can dodge, but i don't think I have seen many other enemies doging around. I am sure some can jump, but I am also sure that some enemies can switch to range if you decide to be a jerk standing on a rock like that. I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote. |

Originally posted by grimm6th You "think", you're "sure"....but you do not KNOW. And from my experiences in the game, and even the direct example that I gave in my previous post, this is not in the game and all we have are mobs that go invuln as the slightest path elevation differences between them and the player.
I've seen Ranger-labled mobs that deal strictly ranged damage, and Warrior-labled mobs that deal strictly melee damage, but no mobs that mix between the two. The mobs that "fly" by type and animation only sit and hover 2ft off the ground without going any futher.
And I'm not saying that all creep mobs should do everything. However, I think that ones with specific qualities to them shall perform certain aspects. Harpies should fly and chase you into the sky should you choose to flee there, same with Gryffins, Wraths, and basically anything with wings. How is it that in this game worms and other subterranean creatures can go underground to travel to the player, but flying creatures cannot fly?

Remember, is there is a Mob Aggro Radius~ if you leave that radius they will definitely run back to their spot, but I've yet to check out what your talking about~ I'll have to try this on BWE3 and reply back here. |

I am all for mob diversity. It sounds like it would be difficult but worthwhile to have some mobs jump. It is an extra layer of fluff, and boy do I love fluff in my MMO's. |

If they add jumping ability to mobs then maybe they can get rid of the invincibility mobs get when you attack them from a height they can't easily reach. |

I would like to read others input on this. In the past two BWEs and stress tests I was unable to find locations that mobs could not damage me from. If I tried to exploit terrain they just went ranged. This is one of the first mmo's I have played that I could not avoid mob damage through terrain exploitation. I didn't get to try dungeons yet though.
Cheers!

In GW2, where a character can climb/jump, a mob can follow. Try it this week end :) |

Originally posted by Mexorilla Happens e.g. when you shoot mobs from the top of a cliff they can't directly climb on. And it makes sense, without that feature, it would be too easy to exploit and kill mobs without ever being hit. |

This thread is kind of retarted. In GW2 there are mobs that can jump. The grawl & cave trolls are 2 examples. Actually, the cave trolls are pretty tough to dodge if you don't get your timing just right (they do an attack where they jump up and stomp on the ground. You have a split second to dodge, or else you're knocked to the ground and have a pile of rubble raining down on your face). If you're trying to say that mobs in MMOs should have climbing mechanics and such... lmfao. I haven't played a single MMO that can do that, and honestly it wouldn't change the game all that much. Most enemies don't have trouble finding you on a cliff, or will just retreat back to their camp if they think you're trying to bait them up a mountain side. I do find it interesting that we have BWE3 tomorrow, and out of nowhere we have this recent barrage of nitpicky criticisms about GW2. I wonder what the next thread topic will be? "I hate the shoes in GW2, this needs to be fixed or this game will fail!" or maybe "The flower mechanics in GW2 just aren't good enough! This is an extremely important feature to me!". Can we get back to real topics? |
