EA however are basically saying that SWTOR is a failure. It needs 1M subs to turn a "nothing to write home about profit". It needs 500k paying subs just to break even - and it probably doesn't have those. Eve, unlike SWTOR, doesn't have to pay anyone a royalty.

You underestimate the power of the Star Wars fandom, I find your lack of faith in us disturbing. I prefer being Jabba to the hero or villain any day. As for EVE, when you launch with nothing and build up to 500k your doing it right. When you launch with 2 mill and fall back to 1 mill in a few months, when you flat out said you expected WOW numbers, your failing. mmorpg.com/blogs/Xobdnas |

When I heard the words "we are not wanting to re-invent the wheel here", i knew it was over before it even started.
Serves Them right. I can bet as we speak the slips about free to play a while back is why they have been so "hush hush" they're getting it ready and the fans who are still playing think they're just getting a new planet and race. sad really glad i bailed after level 50. game was so linear it was sad.
But anyways a better year this will be for a few MMOs coming so it was no big loss. |

Well if it was ftp i might log in to on days when im feeling bad for myself, see all the poor folks that serously play it, them realize things could be much worse. mmorpg.com/blogs/Xobdnas |

Originally posted by jiveturkey12 I take it you like games where everyone is the same hero. Boy that sounds fun being a twinkee of everyone else. I think your right that everyone does what to be the hero but not in a MMO where there are 1000s of other people. With TOR everyone is the same hero and there's no way around it. That is one of the major claims when people call it a single player game. Sure I want to be the hero but I want to be my hero my way. TOR not allowing that is one if not the biggest factors the game lacks player retention. Maybe it has your retention but it looks like your falling in the minority more every day.

another one of these eh.. lmao. people who are enjoying it are enjoying it.. its simple, if you dont like it..well great. good for you. lets stop making "i knew tor would fail" threads.. its okay. we get it.. it didnt do as well as projected.. but people still play it, its still considered a AAA title.. its only in the first year.. let it grow. the game will be fine as long as the devs continue to work. same with any game. before TOR dropped everyone was all like "YAY SWTOR IS OUR SAVIOR" ...some of you will be saying the same shit when GW2 drops.. "i knew GW2 would fail" ............................ ( / o _ o )/ endless cycle tbh. |

WOW has NOTHING to do with SWTOR being what it is. SWTOR is KOTOR...online. It is ACTUALLY KOTOR...online. Its a freaking single player game, made so more than one person can play in the same space as the player. WOW, however was designed from the ground up to be an MMO. You may not like that MMO, but if you played DAoC or EQ1, you CAUSED WOW to be created. If however, you played AC1 or AO you are NOT responsible for the genre turning into the themepark POS it currently is. The MMORPG genre became this beast because of the most played games of the past...and people like Raph Koster that ruined sandbox games with piss poor cheap game design. Seriously...SWG had worlds created with a RANDOM GENERATOR...could not take 10 damn steps without going down into a ditch...right outside THEED! an ADVANCED world...ditches every 10 freaking steps. really loved the lack of 3d x/y axis also, no jump, could shoot through walls and the ground if you were on one side of a hill and a mob was on the other. No really...great freaking programming...also loved the daily downtime due to piss poor database programming. |

Originally posted by rdrakken Actually no, they are both the same. WoW and SWTOR are both designed to be and are, single player experience with multiplayer end game lobby with dungeon finder. They were both designed to have the lobby effect at the end. Don't fool yourself, WoW wasn't meant to be the awesome mmo experience either, because if it were they would have changed the way it functions in the open world. (open world pvp open world pve open world bosses open world event handling) and they both would have eliminated all the things that prevent people from experiencing a true mmo experience like no tagging, no dungeon finder, no limited to dungeons/raids only, no solo-only leveling (meaning you have to actively join a group instead of events just pulling you in while you are in the world), coop instead of player vs player pve questing system.

Do people still believe that tortanic has 1.3 million subs? Someone would have an easier time convincing me that the earth was flat than convincing me that SWTOR still (or ever had) 1.3 million subscribers. Originally posted by itgrowls No, that makes it more like GUILD WARS which actually WAS a single player experience with multiplayer end game LOBBY with dungeon finder...long before WoW. Either way, you did not disprove my point that SWTOR is nothing more than KOTOR with online capabilities. The entire core game can be removed from being online and would play EXACTLY like KOTOR. P.S. Don't fool yourself. |
