The Nightmare modes for the 2 dungeons works fine aswell, but are being held back to be marketed as update features.

Ragnar spoke a big game about delivering new features and content, not about rebranding deactivated stuff.

but thats how they get new features into the game.. they run it on a test server first make sure everything is fine and then release. SO yes they plan to release an update patch at the end of the month so they need to test the features. Just because those features are working does not mean they are holding them back.. they said there will be an update at the end of the month and guess what there will be.. now if they dont release the update when they said then yes they would be holding it back.. but until that happens its nto being held back..

Hell if they just released every little feature they tested you would be getting lots of little micro patches that dont really do much.

This.

I don't see what's the problem with releasing a number of features, changes and new things in batch like at the end of a month, instead of every few days. If those things didn't work before launch, and only worked recently in Testlive, then I can see why they want to do it together with the monthly update.

Its a joke, the Update is made up of an Auction House they deactivated at launch, and was supposed to be a launch feature, now they are marketing it as an Update feature?

The 2 nightmare dungeons were also deactivated at launch and now has become update features.

The only thing new in this update is 7 missions :/ So much for Ragnar's promises.

So they should have just released the AH and those dungeons with bugs rather than hold them back? I don't think anyone has claimed they were intended to be brand new features always intended to be added to the game later. This first issue was intended to be new missions and 7 new missions in less than a month is ok by me.

Or they were testing features meant for the first update during the last weeks of beta as part of their testing cycle. Was it ever comminicated that these features were supposed ot be in at launch or is that an assumption on your part?

Well, if the Tradepost has been working for a long time on Testlive, how can it be that there just was a new update yesterday, primarily focused on the Tradepost, with tons of fixes?

Come on OP - you already have a thread on this at TSW forums, and even a dev has respondend.

Here's the post, a little rough in the tone, but with the accusations from the OP, I quite understand it.

"Just FYI.

In the time the tradepost was in beta, there were over 500 bugs reported.
Over 100 of those were absolutely critical, things like infinite item dupe bugs or gold exploits.
We had a hard deadline, we couldn't push the game back. We decided to hold it back and fix the bugs before we pushed it out.
Ideally it would have been in at launch, but then it would have been a buggy mess that caused a huge amount of problems.

The idea that we would purposely hold back a feature like that from launch on purpose is laughable. It *is* basic MMO functionality and we were scared there would be a massive outcry because it wasn't ready.

But that is the point. It wasn't ready. We are doing our best to provide a good experience for players. This is not an attempt to "fatten" a content patch.

Hell if somebody was going to unsub to the game, do you really consider an AH to be the thing that changes their mind?

I think not!"

I'll just repost what Ragnar said on Massively about this:

tl;dr: the content was NOT meant for the launch and was always intended for the first update.

They are already working on August and furhter updates too, they have been for a good year or more and they have "charted out" at least seven years of content.

And yes, it always comes to test servers a week or more before release of the update. Thats how mmos work.

haters gonna hate.

It can't be easy, for Ragnar'n'bunch.

Having to deal with bullcrap like this when all they're doing is trying to give people something "fun" to do with their otherwise mundane lives.

Very impressed with TSW, hopefully people that like being critical just to look cool will take a deep breath and realise how happy they should be that finally MMO's are at the point where they can take some focus off just making the basics work and they are actually telling good stories again. In one way it feels like we have gone backwards 10-20 years, and thats a good thing.

Seeing I'm still in Kingsmouth with level 2 and 3 gear I'm going to say, take your time and focus on quality not quantity.

My greatest fear for this game is that the launch content will be like Season 1 of Lost and its all downhill from there. I hope Funcom can ignore the noise and give use 7 Season 1's of Lost ...

Playing: Lotro, DOTA2, ESO, Darkfall
Also played and worth mentioning: UO, WoW, Lineage2

Considering they've already written the content, not to mention voice recorded at least some of that... I don't see why the future content won't be identical to whats already in the game.

The Secret World will just get deeper and more rich, every month?  Shit.  Thats alright in my book.

Wow, what an unduly cyincal way to spin it.

If the Auction House was disabled for launch, it was obviously for a good reason. It's not like they said "Eh, we put all this time into designing and implementing a Marketplace, but you know, we just don't feel like activating it. So, screw it".

If it's being re-activated, then it qualifies as an update to the game. An update doesn't necessarily mean "new content". It can simply mean "change". And in this case, the "change" is in the Marketplace going from "inactive" status to "active" status.

Other than that, new content is being added, so yes... Ragnar and the team are keeping their promise.

You're reading far too much into it, and trying far too hard to spin it as a negative.

Just wanted to add that so far I am very impressed with TSW. BF and I have been playing around 3 hours a night since we got the game on Monday this week and it's definitely been an amazing experience. Not even out of Kingsmouth yet and I feel like I've gotten more content than my past 3 mmos combined.

Ragnar is great. I have nothing but respect for the guy. I really did enjoy the stories and the setting in TSW. I also applaud his efforts of keeping in contact with the community. Which is not something that Funcom is known for.

With that said, TSW still needs a bit of work before it can truly be a great game. In about 6 months, the game will be worth a box price, a subscription fee and a cash shop. Right now it's not.

I was so on the fence with my first beta experience, seemed to far off to be ready for launch and dismissed the game for the most part. Decided to give it another go on a later beta and was able to really enjoy it. Now as far as my limited experience with funcom I have to give them kudos for the work so far. Had a really laggy day the other day, contacted customer support through livechat and was helped dam near immediately. So they have my confidence now! I will take a break for gw2 and come back in a bit when that game starts to get boring as all things do, can't eat pizza everynight. Will be looking forward to all the new missions there adding for sure.

Agreed on point #1.... the guys behind TSW have poured their hearts into this game, and it shows. I AM BLOWN AWAY by the storyline developments, the look and feel of the various enviroments, and the game play and character development - it has been wonderful.  This is truely the "thinking person's  MMO" (what I was hoping for) and its what we got.

Given that, I disagress with point #2. Though there are LITTLE bumps in the road in some minor side missions, this has been the best release I have ever seen. When I've needed help from a GM or another player - its been a wonderful experience. This game was worth everything I've paid, I am getting more then I hoped for - at launch!

This game isn't for everyone BTY, and IMHO that should be OK. For for me, I"ll be in the Secret War for some time!

Every time I start the game, I have to close it by killing the process and launch it again, otherwise the game stalls at the loading screen you get when you're trying to load into a zone. I also have to restart the game every hour to two, otherwise I experience stuttering and severe FPS loss.

I'm not going to mention the numerous broken missions and various other issues that I've ran into by the time I got to the second Transilvania zone. But since this is not really the topic to discuss these issues, I'll just state that I respectfully disagree with your disagreement.

I can say as someone who has bashed the heck out of funcom over the years I am very impressed and happy with how TSW has been handled so far.I am loving the game it is the first game in YEARS that I actually think about when I am not playing. And the first one in years that I have to make myself log out of or I waste my entire day playing. They def have my sub money so long as I keep having fun and enjoying the  game and funcom continues to do what they have had through release of TSW they will keep my buisness,

I guess where this is when personal opinion/preference comes into it, then.

I think the game is well worth the box fee and a sub right now. I'm having a blast with it, warts, hiccups and all.

Incidentally, I think you could have left "Cash Shop" out of your statement, considering it's 100% optional, even if you do find the game worth the sub and box fee.

The cash shop is there and leaving it out on the pricing break down would be dishonest.

Guys, some people are just never happy, you could give them $999,999.99 & they'd bitch piss & moan like crazy for not making it 1 million.

Updates on this kind of schedule take a lot of hard work, I really like the thinking behhind them, time will tell if it can be maintained.

New content is great but how goes the bug fixing?  The bugs are the reason I did not subscribe.  The worst:

* Even on the final beta weekend there were still many instances of getting stuck on the geometry (or falling through it) and the "stuck" command claiming you weren't stuck (but the secondary reset/teleport working but often putting you quite a ways from where you were).

* The game also had *MAJOR* issues running on my wife's PC (XP SP2, Nvidia 450 GPU (with latest drivers), etc).  All of the in-game help screens and videos were a complete graphics hash that was completely unreadable.  Plus several crashes and other issues.

Active: CoH/CoV, Warhammer (beta,live)
Retired: Anarchy Online, Archlord (beta), Auto Assault (beta), Dark Age of Camelot, D&D Online (alpha, beta,&live), Dungeon Runners, Everquest, EVE, Guild Wars, Lord of the Rings (beta), Vanguard (beta), World of Warcraft
Looking forward to: Fallen Earth

Ragnar is great. I have nothing but respect for the guy. I really did enjoy the stories and the setting in TSW. I also applaud his efforts of keeping in contact with the community. Which is not something that Funcom is known for.

With that said, TSW still needs a bit of work before it can truly be a great game. In about 6 months, the game will be worth a box price, a subscription fee and a cash shop. Right now it's not.

One can play the entire game without having to spend one cent on anything from the cash shop. So the bottom line is the cost to play the game comes down to box purchase and monthly sub. Nothing you can buy in the cash shop can or will impact one's success in the game, it's all cosmetic fluff, thus 100% optional.

In my eyes, adding the cash shop to criticism of the cost-to-play TSW is merely padding the complaint and is misleading.
