How's it feel knowing that a Miocrosoft Exell simulator will overtake TOR soon?

NGE killed SWG. Get over it like the rest of us did in 2005.

Microsoft Excel Simulator. It's a derisive reference to EVE, used because so much of the gameplay is analyzing and playing with numbers and spreadsheets.

Subscribers? Probably more than players. The big question is how many paying subscribers they'll have next month (exit the 6 month plans + free month who are no longer interested in paying to keep on playing). Of course, you can expect to see a lot of numbers from EA, but don't hold your breath for this one.

I think it's a safe bet that it will be WAY below 1.3M unless they're going to be creative again and activate all accounts with a free month and call them all 'active subscriptions' again.

If they release actual sub numbers, I'd expect them to be closer to 300K than to 1.3M.

Except if you read the investor call transcript they clearly state "These numbers were prior to the legacy promotion" meaning none of the 1.3 million were on their "Free" month (source EA investor Call transcript from EA.com).

Essentially what that means is that most of those 1.3 million would still have had active subs at the time of 1.3 launching and will have had chance to check out the server moves and group finder (which really really should have been in at launch).   Now maybe this will steady there numbers and the game will find its base line or maybe it will go up or down.  But as has been mentioned many times, Xfire is one of the WORST measuring metrics around.... even steam charts are more accurate (although not for this game lol)

Still, keep hatin'  :)

Well:

Around the time EA announced the 1.3M figure - which was after the 30 days free had started - the XFire number rose to just under 4400. In the 5 or 6 weeks before that it had been around 3500 with peaks in the low 4,000.

Today the XFire number has been hovering around 1500 for some weeks (the 6 month subs won't run out until late August if they all got an extra 30 days).

If there is a link (caveats, caveats, caveats) and free trials will inflate the XFire numbers so any guess may be overstated:

Based on the 1.7M number subs may be about  200k (XFire peak was just under 12k, no free trials at this point)

Based on the 1.3M number "subs" maybe about 1/3 - say 450k. (Xfire number includes free trials which will lead to a higher sub number i.e overstated).

So 300k could be a good guess.

I don't expect a new number to be announced though.

Are you claiming that they crammed 1.3 million people into 30 servers?

Soo... ~43k players per server?

How many servers do they actually have by the way? I don't know the details, but 43k per server sounds like a lot.

The problem with the 1.3M number however is the time stamp -  which was the date when people were able to claim their legacy 30 days. If they had said it was as at the end of March .... but they didn't.

And they didn't define the number either other than to say they were subscribers a higher percentage of which were credit card subscribers although on a lower absolute  number of subscribers.

I think the definition would be very messy. People had to be 'subscribers' to qualify for the free 30 days if I understand it but how many of them would have unsubscribed if it had not been for the free 30 days. That is the unknown.

None were on their free month? Is that free month the first 30 days or the one they handed out during the legacy thing?

So what is it. Ok, none were or most weren't, what are you trying to say? They're not being creative with sub numbers? If they had 700K then, that still would have been most of the 1.3M. It would have been a big drop from 1.7M and that's why they did the legacy thing to begin with. Lot's of accounts that had already cancelled were reactivated and given a free month to make them active subscriptions again, without asking the owners if they wanted it.

No matter how you spin it, nowhere will you find that EA claimed they had 1.3M paying subscribers. You know why? Most likely because they didn't.

No need to hate anything, it's just so disappointing.

Sigh.   Almost, but not quite.   There were 100K that were still in trial period.   And before you say 'nuh-uh, they didn't claim those!' all 1.7 million in December were in their trial (free month from purchase) phase and they were counted as subs.   However, it doesn't mean there were 1.2, or 1.3, million active players.   As I've pointed out, until I'm sick of it:  Subs > Players in any sub-based MMO.   Always.

As for the number of subs...  Don't know.   EA's sub policy (for example, if you don't have a credit card, you have to activate with a 60-day time card to get the 30-days this game came with (90-days minimum)) plus time give-away tends to make this game appear healthier than it really is.   The good thing is, in about three more months, we'll have finally gotten through all their manipulation, give-aways, most of the 6-month overly-optimistic time-card purchasers and what-not and get, for the first time, a good glimpse at just how well SWTOR is doing.

As for XFIRE...   What you, and the other detractors, have said is what they said on the AoC forums.  It's what they said on the Rift forums.  It's what they said on the Warhammer forums.   It is, no doubt, what they are (or will be) saying on the TERA and TSW forums.    They were all wrong.   Miserably wrong.  Epically wrong.   Of course, by that time, most all of the BioWare defense force will have silently exited the game and this forum. They certainly have on the BioWare forums. Some of the worst, most abusive fanboys are long gone. Nary a peep out of them for months.

26 Severs, it appears to me.  12 US, 11 Euro, 3 Asian.  All are still going down according to their "server status" sheet.  Have droped from Full/Very Heavy to Very Heavy/Heavy and even a few at Standard during prime times.

SWG had 26 servers pre-C6CD.  And the top figures sent out from SOE were 300K subs, altho that was a game that many players had multipal account in (wife and I had 9).  Not much need for multipal accounts in TOR.  SWG would of had a little over 11,500 subs per server back then.  TOR seems to cap at Full and start Qs somewhere around 4000.

So how many subs do you think SWTOR has TODAY?

Based on 2.4 mil game sales, 1.5 mil at launch with 220 servers (~ 7k non concurrent per server)...

Now reduced to 26 servers (asain ones are flopping),  about 200k active players.

Which is precisely what math predicts .. if you go from 220 servers down to 26, you'd expect a little more than 10%, which is what you have.

1.3 Mil? ROFL

Well, that wasn't all that hard acually since the majority of those were dead anyway. But I counted 12 living NA servers, 11 Euro servers, and 3 living ones for Asia-Pacific. Some of the Euro and most of the AP ones are only barely alive, but still alive.

Nice, TOR is slowly increasing, probably thanks to the comeback week and free trials and TERA is leaking...

It probably is a bit.  Free time has a habit of doing that.  We seen the same exact thing in SWG when they had the "free months".  Problem was/is, not many, if any, stayed and payed.

I'm sure log-ins increased during this week.  In fact, I tried it once myself.  Went and did the Blackhole dailys and found I had to beat on stuff even more with my Guardian due to the NERFs.  Loged out, haven't been back.  Playing STO.

Well, i cameback for the free week and resubbed for a month, to check it deeper. Either way now I can easily find groups in the group finder, even as a dps im waiting around 5 minutes to be called, which is substancially lower than warcraft also as a dps,  in which case I usually wait around 12 minutes. Im playing in The Progenitor EU and the population is thriving, every zone is always packed with people.

If the merges did this,. thanks Bioware. Let's see how much time ill keep subbed this time, I guess 1.4 will decide it, if it brings new and interesting content

Which probably explains why the people who were so intent on keeping this thread going  are no longer tracking this. The game has finally stabilized and is still the second biggest MMO according to the standards THEY have set. (XFIRE is a good indicator) So according to the holy grail that is XFIRE,no other MMO outside of WOW has yet to top this "failed" game.
