Actually, Microsoft didn't just get tired of delays and such. They pulled out after discovering that a demo they were presented, which was supposed to show the (at that time) current stage of development, was false. Sigil ran a scam, and was caught. |

Brad as leader=bad. Brad as a idea person, should be good.
People often make the mistake of putting people in charge of things that have no business being in charge of things, an idea/vision person doesn't usually make the best boss....He isn't the boss, so he will be handled/managed.

F2P will surely revive Vanguard, and it is a good move, it will actually bring in some investment that can be used to improve the game, I for enjoyed VG for its massive implementation, it did lack a lot of features but that is a different matter, I am sure Brad McQuaid did go out to make a bad game or featureless they probably ran out of money and other factors really did impact the game negavitely. At the end of the day it wasnt worth the sub price for me, F2P is the way to go for this.

Originally posted by Aeolron Brad was with Vangaurd for several years and look what he made of it on release. Sigil did have some good idea men (if poor programmers) but Brad pink slipped them all while he cut a chushy consultant deal with SOE, wheres he gonna get his vision from now?

funny how he mentions the re-itemization for the freemium launch, and yet with SOE's model free players will never see the majority of those items (free players can only equip common items lmao) |

Any word yet on if there will be item unlockers like there are in Everquest 2? |

Originally posted by Xthos idea people are worthless, everyone is an "idea person". game design ideas always look great on paper, but usually falls apart in execution. it's the designers who thoroughly and efficiently test their ideas to see if they actually work or not that really make somebody a great game designer or not. brad was cute when he was trying to get everyone hyped about bringing back the old school immersive mmo, but he let everyone down when he made a mediocre product, sold his game to SOE and went into hiding. also if I remember right, SOE has been very slowly undoing the hardcore design, so at this point it's probably going to be another dime a dozen wow clone. |

Brad was a bad manager but his ideas were sound. Vanguard is the only MMO that comes closest to what I thought mmo's were going to be. At least from the mmo's I've played. In any case, reinstalling now. All I have to do is balance Vanguard, Tera, TSW, Skyrim and Morrowind. And have a life. sigh. |

Brad is back because he has served his 5 years of not being allowed to own a business, after Sigil went tits up. He was given an inactive post at SOE and now he's back, bringing some sex, drugs and crappy code back to Vanguard!
Please keep him away from Planetside 2!

I like the f2p models but the restrictions for f2p is down right rude. I'm between MMOs right now and I was going see if vanguard could be a new home but not now.

Originally posted by arctarus it's not a f2p model, it's "freemium" (which is a really dumb sounding term) freemium models are glorified demos that are designed to constantly tease you to unlock the real game with money |

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this. |

Originally posted by nuttob YOu mean by subbing right or you won't be able to use those items he talks about. If you don't think increasing loot drops is to get people away from the free to play model and into subs then I can't help that :) The F2P model works well for that purpose but not as a viable alternative to the current pay to play version which is already failing or has failed. It won't help the game and adding items that F2P users can't use won't either. Just my thoughts on the article. The problem has been numbers. You could do a nice F2P model that would have people spending more than $15 a month on cosmetics. . XP boosts etc. . but if they can't use the gear they find they are not likely to sub if they have not already. If the game was newer sure. Maybe people would get into it. You can't put an 80 yaer old in a strip club hoping people will hang around and buy drinks. Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is! |

I want an mmorpg where pvp matters, my enemies are not my race or class, and community matters. |

Why anyone supports the F2P model is beyond me. Unless you can accept not being competitive, the F2P model is not for you. In the end the F2P costs more than a monthly sub - that's the whole point of it. Making you pay to win...
Folks can roll their eyes all they want, but if you want to be in the upper crust of the game you are F2P'ing in, you had better believe you will need your credit card, just like in a facebook game. Anyone who denies this is either working for the company that is making the F2P choice, any company that has done this, or just plain doesn't get it because they so desperately enjoy playing something that introduces them to the game without actually getting to truly be a part of it.
If THAT ^^ doesn't make sense, then ask yourself this: Why in God's name would a corporation (i.e., mmorpg) choose F2P if it didn't potentially bring in more money - and a lot more money. They weigh out the difference of how many subs vs how much free 2 play money they can get and they realize that every mmorpg has a % of folks that are willing to pay ridiculous amounts to stay at the top, like those folks that spend hundreds on in game gold.
Think about it folks. |
