Fair enough, I still enjoy games with those feature but have also played titles that successfully incorporated alternate feature sets. Seems the OP only defines 'real' MMO's as games that he enjoys, regardless whether there are successful titles such as EVE which are enjoyed by many. The OP should have said MMORPG instead of MMO. There's this thing called an MMOFPS after all, and it routinely comes with almost all of the features in that list. Though, when we're talking about the mmoRPG, I'd agree, to an extent. The action gamers are practically banging their head against the wall when they keep buying & trying MMORPGs with standard MMORPG gameplay (which prioritize character skill and progression before player skill, as they must, in my opinion). |

I like the OP's list except for the F2P or B2P.

Originally posted by KingGator In all fairness the vocal minority isn't as cut and dried just as those of us who stil like traditional mmo gaming likes the same things, there are lots of folks I would consider vocal minority who like sandbox style pames ffapvp games and the list goes on and on. Though I conceed that your examples does represent a segment of that population. |

I can only describe what I feel the future of an MMO I would like to play might me.
1. No level based progression 2. No end game gear all player crafted 3. PVE/PVP happen's on the same world map, and is not in an instance and the only achievement is how fun it is. 4. Player Housing is created by players and can be dropped anywhere. 5. You can dig holes for the sake of digging a hole, fall in it and play fort if you like, or you can continue digging until you have created a nice tunnel you can hide in and horde stuff you steal gather. or you can make like a home. need another room dig it out. 6. Everything even the cloths/armor/items mobs wear have and use and NPC's wear can be crafted by players. 7. Full professions system with at least 50 valued professions that produce something players can use. 8. Full character creation with sliders to allow every part of your body to be designed the way you want instead of 10 body types, 10 hair types etc. 9. Weather system that effects the eviroment I.E snow storms mudslides halestorms sandstorms that cause damage makes you sweat in your amror. 10 A pet systems that allows you craft pets simular to SWG. also a companion systesm sorta of like TOR but allows you to take over the role of your comanion for missions and you can use the character creation system to customize their look. 11. A fully 18+ MMO that has sex nudity adult themes and situations extreme gore blood and violence. no one under 18 allowed to play at all. 12. the majoirty of raid bosses are players who have become very powerful. groups can form raids to take them down. it would be the only time you could loot something other then for resources for crafting. 14. for any other NPC bosses they would all be world bosses and you could form a group larger then 40 to take them down as well. * I will like to add* for an example I love crafting but the ability to say take a common sword schematic and take a gun schematic and mix and match varios parts to create something noone has ever crafted would be awesome. same with clothes..mix and match colors patterns and a mix of heavy armor and a cloak to create a unique look. Also you can swap parts to create some crazy contraptions like a laser sighted gunsword with an over under greande launcher. every MMO needs this IMO a mad scientist profession that allows DNA from animals and creatures to be swapped to create unique pets and monsters. also common races can have DNA taken to create some kind of super race or enhance your own DNA with that of exoitc creatures or a driod with ahuman brain etc etc. thats what i would love.
I have more but for me this would be my MMO in the future I would love to play someday.

It's not that character advancement is required in an MMO - as solarine points out, MMOFPS is a viable genre. However, if character progression is a core mechanic of your game (as it is with RPGs), then you have to ensure that mechanic is always worthwhile to persue. You should get more power from a magical sword than you should from becoming an expert in Rusty Daggers. |

Originally posted by KingGator well ive been playing mmo's since eq day 1 and i would welcome such a mmo, as long as f2p/cashshop didnt equate to p2w. I have to be honest with you. We have completely blown up the design of EverQuest Next. For the last year and a half we have been working on something we are not ready to show. Why did we blow up the design? The design was evolutionary. It was EverQuest III. It was something that was slightly better than what had come before it. It was slightly better. What we are building is something that we will be very proud to call EverQuest. It will be the largest sandbox-style MMO ever designed.--Smed |

Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |

1.) FPS combat 2.) skill based, no classes 3.) No levels 4.) cash shop b2p preferably f2p
[mod edit] I don't see why this can't be an mmo, hell I played this already (cept point 4) it was called PLANETSIDE. And no it is not the same as Counterstrike or any other lame online FPS. |

wrong. yeah, those bulletpoints sound good but your oblivious to other key factors. your stance is ironic, cuz you sound like the type of latecomer to MMOs thats ignorant of the good qualities they had which are missing from modern MMOs. to reply in a similar manner as you,.... go play sp RPGs and stop trying to erase every trace of virtual worldliness for the original MMO players.
and stop with this cliche thats been repeated a million times in this forum. you're saying the same tired, and ill-thought idea thats constantly being thrown about, and acting like its some kind of fresh revelation. don't you have any of your OWN ill-thought ideas? maybe thats how you know there's alot of people in agreement with you, cuz you are just adding your own repetition to the simplistic cliches that they spout. congrats? The OP is wrong. The "vocal minority" don't know what they want and never have. All they know is that no game that has been released meets their lofty expectations...except for maybe the "old school" MMO they played years ago until it went "too casual".

i can't stand Planetside. it has no MMO aspects that i care about, other than massive amounts of players. totally unimmersive non-world. of course, the OP thinks thats what i want. or worse yet CS. one of my most despised FPS games. i guess he knows me better than i know myself tho. 8/ 8) he commanded me to go play them, so i must.
