Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this. |

With two games trying something new becoming a success maybe we will see more investment in left field ideas in the genre in the future. Both games being successful is good for all of us. Now all we need is a successful sandbox to land to really blow the doors open... |

Originally posted by Sebber What? Everybody calls AO and AOC complete failure, along with other Funcom games like Bloodline Champions, yet, they just produced and financed TSW all by themselves without a publisher. The important thing is, what does that have to do with anything? You said that because GW2 doesn't have a sub, it can't fail. However, GW1 could hide it's population, and because it was a co-op game, you didn't need people to do pve, and only a small amount for lobby pvp. GW2 is a full morpg that requires lots of players to have a community and population spread over multyple servers, people needing each other for groups of DE, dungeons, market, and wvwvw. So, if i see server merges or low pop in the game, how's that any different from any sub based mmo? |

Exactly, the main thing here is not who gets the "best" title, but that the two that try something different do well, and appear to be the best new entries for 2012.
In a perfect world, good games would be successful and their fans wouldn't bash each other... Specially when those are games that finally bring fresh elements and move away form the box that MMO's have been stuck in for a decade or more. |

Originally posted by FredomSekerZ uncharted 2, read dead redemption, batman asylum , fallout 3, borderlands, oblivion, skyrim, AC, GoW (just name some)im pretty sure all have a GOTY version and all are some of best games release on past years. all with very high rated reviews. most of GOTY games i know they are for sure popular but have amazing quality. IMO if a game have a GOTY version 80% of time have amazing quality one thing for sure: 2012 is a great year for MMORPG, i didnt like TSW combat/animation but the game have great quality and is far from the tipic WoW based game |

As a general rule, no matter how much you love any given MMO. Play it for more than a week before you call something GOTY (not like GOTY label has any meaning these days considering every minor blog about gaming gives their own GOTY awards...) . Wait till you see the game at "end game", wait till you go through all zones, all missions, come back in 2-3 months, and if it still is enjoyable, then it will actually have some validity in it. Every game is fun when it's fresh, happened to every major MMO release over last years. TOR was "GOTY", WAR was "GOTY"... it's almost as good as the whole "WoW killer" cliche that's thrown around constantly. Give it time.

A User rating of 9? That wont last long. Tera was number one in ratings the first week it was released as well, not sure where it is now, but its not in the top 7 listed on the front page. Lately, every hyped new game upon release has catapulted into the number 1 spot for a couple weeks or more then plummets. Come back in a month and see where TSW ranks. The only game on the horizon I can see lasting in the number 1 spot longer than Rift has is going to be GW2. |

Ever since GW2 was announced, no sub-based MMO has provided me with an offering of a similar level. TSW included. Also, I was burned by Failcom in AoC... I could have played TERA, chose not to, its crashing and burning. I could have played TSW, chose to wait for GW2 (2 months now)...lets see what happens for TSW. At least it isn't as bad as AoC
GOTY? GW2, no question. Currently Playing Random shizzle!
Waiting on TERA, GW2, TSW |

Originally posted by VowOfSilence Actually, i can flip that logic around and use it. Because there's no sub, players feel there's even less of a reason to keep playing the game once they're bored. People jumping in for maybe an hour a week, maybe 3 times a month isn't much. Keep in mind, we don't know what will happen, and i don't claim too, but business model doesn't change the fact that this game is still a normal mmorpg with limited content and population requirements. And, no saying the game will "fail" Also, i don't know about other players, but i never pay a sub without knowing for sure i'm getting my times worth |

Tho i am still in the first zones so praying things arent messed up later on . Was realy hyped for gw 2 and also played the game few times at last gamescom convention in germany , but the gw2 weekends where realy not what i thought it would be . Performance was realy bad for me on all gw 2 beta weekends and running pretty decent setup (gtx 580 , 16 gig ram and i7) , i did hear they where working on it tho now i am worried about it since if it was a easy fix they would have done it already for the weekends , also i didnt feel attached to my char for some reason the movement / fighting did feel very random in gw2 in my oppinion. Only downside so far from secret world are the animations but after a few days i am starting to get used to them to but the overal feeling , quest etc are something i did miss since swg and earlyer games before that . ( sorry for bad english , bottle of wine and its getting late ;) |

The game has it's flaws but its mad fun and I'm really enjoying it however the GW2 fanboys will do anything to get their GOTY award. |

The games that are hyped the most i will avoid until it's out 7 months. TSW sounds more imteresting to me then GW2 right now for the only reason GW2 seems to be just another over hyped themepark level based PVP focused niche MMO. I'm sure GW2 will do well but, but it's just not something i'm interested in or will be.

The Secret World is a good game, but there is no way it should be anywhere near a GOTY title. It breaks the mould a bit finally so there is no sniff of a WoW clone but it will not be the best game to come out this year by a long shot. ![]() |

At least the locations in TSW feel alive, everywhere in SWTOR was a ghost town. ![]() |
