I've been running around like a headless chicken in the BWE's because of the limited time available. Once the game has been released, there's no rush. I intend to take things easy and explore (like I've never explored before!). GW2 will most probably be my only MMO by then and I want to get the most out of it... |

Really? No.
Before I played I had a feeling that combat was going to be utterly different, how wrong I was.
It's pretty straight forward at the end of the day, pretty similar to most single player games actually.
If anything Tera/TSW have steeper learing curves, not GW2.
People will get used to it after 20 mins easy. They may not master it, but they'll definitely get used to it. |

I have to say i'm suprised players feel so "weirded out" by new mechanics. Saw this all the time in TSW and GW2. Are people really so used to traditional mechanics that one can't even adapt easily? |

I played terra at a friend a couple of times...it's the same... it just has a "twist" that is as easily learned as the regular system. It's just an illusion terra is different...an illusion that will pass (if not after 30 min like for regular games) in 1-2h of gameplay. Remember Connan? The idea of a game is to have fun....and in GW2, even if the system may seem traditional...even with the good siege mechanics and underwater fight which is by far the best in any mmo so far, i have a ton of fun. That for me is a win..may it be a traditional or completely new system. Overall Terra didn't seem to impress me..or give me any fun feeling compared to GW2. Terra is something u get bored fast. |

My first game was EverQuest. I like dying, and I like challenge. Honestly, GW2 is one of the first games in a while where I felt challenged from basically the very beginning. There were a few DE's here and there where I would literally die 5-10 times. Finally when you nail down a strategy and pull it off, it feels very rewarding. I know I am ready to play the game, I have already improved my play drastically from even the first BWE :) |

Originally posted by Valua They might get used to the combat, but the difficulty of the early game will certainly present a steeper learning curve. I had many friends complaining why they can't kill veteran mob, or why they can't take on 3+ mobs at the same time. At level 20+ this becomes a little more possible but it still is challenging. |

people might cry, might rage, might flip their tables.. but please arenanet , DO NOT MAKE THE GAME EASIER. People need to learn that they have to adjust to the game instead of the game to them! |

Originally posted by Loke666 Yep, whoever played AC1 will adapt to GW2 pretty quickly. I managed to survive 3vs1 fights with several unexpected adds (respawns) on the top of it with my warrior (yeah a warrior, not even an "OP" guardian ;)) once I got my old marks back. One memorable one was in the sort of crypt you have in the Charr low level area (with the fast respawning ooze things). I was fighting the big (veteran) Ooze and two smaller ones when 2 more respawned in the room. I ended the last man (or rather, Norn) standing, all oozes dead, and I enjoyed my skill point (just before the big ooze and his two friends repoped too, they really need to tone down the respawn rates a little bit). |

Originally posted by Valua I got used to Teras' combat faster than i did with GW2. Teras combat is like a action mmorpg like God of War etc, which i like alot. GW2 combat is more mmorpg combat than action combat, because of the dodge mechanic and movement while using skills. If GW2 had more skills including blocks and absorbtion it would be more actionish. GW2s combat is hard to grasp because you don't know what it is, is it action combat or is it mmorpg combat? i learned that it's more mmorpg and not so much action as they promised.
Edit: I also want to add that GW2s combat is very fast paced and you have to see what the enemies are doing and move around to avoid attacks and kite. Melee has a harder time not getting damaged but that's why melee does more damage than ranged. In Tera you have to aim every skill constantly and movement plays a very big part while you need to keep in mind that you need to block attacks and dodge out of the way. In Tera you have more control of what you and the enemy is doing, while in Guild Wars 2 there is chaos because of the fast pace and it's hard to keep track what's happening. |

Originally posted by Kyus_HoB Oh yes, I found the combat far more fluid when I re-mapped Q and E from strafe left/right to A/D (as who turns with keyboard anyway?) and then I put weapon swap and dodge on Q and E. I also love my Naga Razer cause I can do 1-5 without any effort, I just need to figure out a good remap for 6-10.

Originally posted by InFlamestwo I completely disagree. In TERA I found myself standing still, spamming a rotation, and easily figuring out when the mob was going to attack in order to use my Right click (dodge or block) I got so bored/tired of trying to block/dodge every attack, given how fast HP regens and how easy it is to get HP potions and bandages and such, I started only dodging the "OMG MY EYES ARE GLOWING RED" attacks. Where as in GW2 I could take on 4-5 mobs at a time on my Guardian using my skills and mobility to their fullest, ping ponging between mobs, dodging, using knockbacks and shields, and careful kiting to keep only a mob or two in range to attack me at a time. So much more "active" and action packed. MMO History: |

Originally posted by BadSpock Guardian is OP. As i said, some are not used to GW2 and it can take some time to grasp the combat + some classes are better than others. I don't know what you did if you only stood still in Tera. |

Originally posted by InFlamestwo I could do the same in BWE2 and Stress test on my Warrior. And did the same in BWE1 using my Mesmer - and no, not using Greatsword. Weak excuse is weak. All professions CAN do it - if YOU the player do things right. Was balancing 2-3 mobs as a level 7 Elementalist too. MMO History: |

Originally posted by BadSpock Lancer is a boring Tank, which made it from standard mmos to Tera. Play the Warrior and you will defentively have a harder time Tanking. The easiest class is not always the most fun class. Tera sucks though, only the combat was awesome and i didn't say Teras combat was more difficult, i actually wrote that GW2s combat was most difficult.

Originally posted by InFlamestwo I completely disagree with basically all of your points. GW2 is more fluid and WAY more action oriented than TERA. You might not have to aim every attack, but the movement and dodging is WAY more active. Every single attack in TERA, your character stops moving. Some of the "I am god at PvP" videos I have seen are some of the worst PvP videos in MMO gaming. People chasing down other people, only they can NEVER hit them because every attack roots them in place. The entire system is based around stuns and knockdowns, not skill. Fail combat system is fail. I found myself when trying TERA just standing toe to toe with mobs and pressing RMT to block their attacks when they wind up. It was one of the easiest and most boring things I have ever done. It was not fast paced or action oriented at all, I literally just spammed attacks and pressed block when needed. Comparing it to GoW is just laughable. GW2 is fluid and feels much more like on Console action game than TERA ever will. I am not sure how you formed this opinion, but I completely disagree with it ... as do many others. |
