Originally posted by tank017 My concern is that some company (like SOE) would take notice of this game and buy out Repop and turn it into a pile of crap. SOE imparticular has an uncanny talent for turning gold into feces. I really hope the folks at Above and Beyond Technologies don't fall for that trap and stay true to their original goals. Played:EQ,AO,EQ2,WoW,EvE,War,FE,STO,DCUO,Rift,SWTOR |

I don't believe the Repop devs are willing to sell out to some soulless corporate publisher. Money isn't whats driving these guys to make the game, so they aren't going to let their vision be turned into some massive pile of crap just for money. |

Originally posted by HellCaster We've had more than a few discussions about this on the official forum and so far the owners act as disgusted about the thought as the rest of us. According to them, they've spend years of their own time, money, sweat and tears developing this game as they vision it. They at least act like they want to see their dream all the way through without losing creative control. I guess it's like we never see artist hand half finished hand painted portraits over to some graphics designer to finish. That will be like blasphemy. Also like my 67 Bronco I've been restoring for the past 15 years and everyone, I mean everyone keeps telling me I'll never finish it so I should sell it but hell no, it's my dream and one day before I die I want it finished. The owners here are coming across to me with the same mentality. |

Originally posted by HellCaster I think you are being unfairly critical of SOE. While their current releases have tanked...I don't blame SoE for them. EQ1 and 2 are still going strong although a lot of people will claim they ruined EQ1 with SoL, PoP, or GoD...those same people would of claimed it died from anything Sony released. Vanguard and Matrix were dying before SoE got involved. SWG isn't the shining golden standard that fanboi's remember it to be. It had serious issues and was bleeding subs long before the hated patches.
About Repop and sandboxes, I'm eagerly looking for one, but Repop won't be it. SciFi isn't my strong choice(guns just seem underpowered in games) and it is PvP centric which is a turn off for me, full loot or not. Why can't a dev make a sandbox that doesn't cater to griefers. :( |

Big companies like EA and Sony usually pair up with game companies that have titles already released example Bioware. I don't think you have to worry about The Repopulation getting picked anytime soon. They will likely be very successful without these corporate giants messing up the game. |

MMOSNDBXGRFRWTFBBQFFA if it indeed is a PVP based sandbox were full loot is possible? then why not just play EvE or DF? they need to create tools to allow more then just PVP. Sandbox games can be hybrids. SWG NGE was a hybrid MMO. it had a sandbox with themepark tacked on. if done before the fiasco at sony it might have been a success today. hybrids are the way to go. |

Repop isn't a pvp sandbox. It's a hybrid MMO with a crafter centric economy and both PvE and PvP in the persistent world. The devs are trying to create an interdependent enviroment where crafting, PvE, and PvP all have their places, but also interact with each other in a positive manner. |

I'm of the mind that every game shold be clear on what its game play is and allow the customer to be an informed consumer should they do the research. It doesn't need a warning it just needs to tout its features and allow players to make up their own minds. |

Originally posted by Sovrath I agree with this, tho most often people don't read before leaping so it still won't help the majority of crazy ignorants that frequent this site only to post some nonsense using terms like "hype" "p2w" or "fail" every few words, all because they are either not educated in the ways of developers, economics, or true company advertising. It needs no warnings, just feature listings like they all have, but i can see it now, they still will have websites that give these games a low ratings even tho there's nothing wrong with them and possibly due to revenue that doesn't come from indie games paying for bloated and false review scores like we've seen with the themeparks of other titles where the bias is obviously due to money behind closed doors. |

I watched a couple vids on the crafting and world building but sill haven't seen any gameplay or how these ellements are expected to all come together. Any links to those vids or info? I do like the sci fi theme and the inclusion of mecha so they have my interest and from what I've seen so far the world building will be crazy. |

Originally posted by DaezAster No, there's not much to view on gameplay yet. Alpha testing only started 2 weeks ago and it's going to lake a bit longer to get enough polish in to show gameplay definitively. I don't think even the big budget titles release much this early on and when they do it's all doctored and flashes by so fast you can't see what is really happening. |

I would love to bring back one of my favorite terms from my MUD days.
PAFO - Play and Find Out. There were no guides and no walk-throughs. 99% of the time you asked a question on how to do something or what something was like, you got, "PAFO." |

From the videos I have seen, the game looks like more than a sandbox. I mean, peolle can basically create whatever towns they want? Do these devs know what they are doing? There are some real wackos in the world with skewed imaginations. Think rule #34.

It's going to take a ton of resources and cash to afford to have a city and a large enough nation to defend it once you have one. I don't forsee many problems with people designing cities as they'll most likely be looking to design them with an eye for defense and functionality. |

Originally posted by Silvermink ArcheAge is doing the prison system to curb griefing, by making repeated ganking & camping get old with prison downtime, which is good for this game, since you can kill anyone, even your own race.
Player thieves leave footprints for the original item owner to discover and report to the NPC authorities.

If this all works out, that would be a welcome addition to sandboxes, making decisions of morality matter, without actually nerfing the possibilities of being occasionally naughty. The Repopulation would benefit too if some system went in to limit griefing in their game. Want a nice understanding of life? Try Spirit Science: "The Human History" |
