Yeah, I've been having to figure stuff out on my own and it's unfamiliar territory after the last few years of MMORPG releases.

It's still too soon for me to pass a verdict on this game, having only played for a few hours. But I will say that it is the most different MMORPG I've played in a long time (excluding sandbox titles like EVE, Darkfall, Mortal Online, Xsyon, etc.). I mean among the games like WoW, Rift, AoC, Warhammer, Aion, LoTRO, etc., this game is the most different.

I've had a lot of fun. Most of the fun has been coming from learning my way around the game and my character and abilities. I don't even know if combat is fun yet or not, though I've probably killed close to 100 zombies and a couple of mini-bosses. To me that's not yet a factor. I'm just figuring out stuff like how to get a second weapon, what to do with AP and SP, how to handle picking up quests, how to dissassemble and assemble items, etc. It's all the real basic stuff.

The fun I'm having is really just in being a NOOB again!

I do want to say that I have more respect for Funcom now, for at least thinking differently and trying to bring out a new type of game. I don't know if everyone will like it. And I suspect most people won't. And that's a good thing to me. I don't even know if I will like it in the long run, but I'm am enjoying it a lot right now.

Sums my post up in a shorter version that I agree with. Especially the part about Funcom trying something different.

I almost want to keep subbing to TSW for as long as Funcome stays away from the , make it easy , make it WoW route. Just so future devs/companies might see it's better to go for a core audience for your own niche and quit making WoW in Star Wars space type games.

Kudos to Funcom for trying something different.

The atmosphere feels so much more grown up then the typical childish high fantasy MMO. So maybe finally a company realises that a deep dark mythic fantasy MMO might sell better then those mmos with stories aiming at 12 year olds.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package)
Worst MMO experience : FF XIV
Currently playing : GW2

While I think it's possible to make an "adult" high fantasy game , it's just that devs have not gone that route , I am with you on the feel of the game seeming more grown up.

I noticed in chat last night that I wasn't in the minority seemingly with lots of other folks with kids/families and well over 30. Was refreshing for a change , as while nothing against younger folks , it is nice to game with people that understand real life issues that you also have.

When people rage about over 18 guild requirements etc , I always use the example of , while I know there are exceptions as in polite and intelligent teenagers are around in game , if I go out to a bar I'm going to go with my buddies , who are all over 30 , have wives and kids and mortgages etc , just because we relate to each other.

I dont socialize with 16 year olds or 20 year olds much because its just different being 40 and 20 - worlds apart - and I enjoy socializing in a guild with other folks who enjoy games still but also grasp emergency afk's because the two year just pulled  two year old stunt. No matter how "mature" a 16 year old is , they still aren't going to be in the same realm of understanding on issues like that and just general day to day life.

Again , I don't worry about age of who I group or chat with , just being friendly and non "OMFg thatZ GHey" (there are plenty of adults who are leet idiots also ) , but in a guild/cabal I do prefer it being majority adults with similar tastes/likes , just as I do when socializing in real life.

And seems TSW has a nice quantity of adults playing who also aren't 4chan morons. (meant aren't - edited)

Many polls have shown that the vast majority of MMO players are between 25 and 35 years old. Yes, including in games like World of Warcraft.

This kind of argument has always amused me... I've seen it in other games, like LOTRO, too. It always thought it was some kind of attempt to make one's game seem more "legit" or "mature" or just "better", a search for a justification to play it. At the end, you realize the overall community is just as immature than in any other MMO, and your only "protection" is to join a good guild.

I remember when Conan was released... "yeah, finally, a "mature" game with boobs and NPCs who curse!"... we see how it ended. But yeah... "hey, look at me, I'm playing a game with boobs, cursing and adult themes!" ;-)

While this is true it, anytime you focus a game to a specific audience you reduce your potential profitability. I think that Funcom knew this as I think their target subs are probably in the 100-200K range (SWTOR for example built and invested in infrastructure to support 10million players - as that was their projected subscription base).

This is good for gamers, I think it's good for Funcom as well as their vision was to build a smaller sub niche game - which TSW is.  This can be a very profitable model as long as you scale your infrastructure and control costs accordingly - you can have a  sub-100K playerbase game that is profitable.

Bioware/EA totally thought they had a WoW killer with their plans - boy were they wrong, hance the layoffs and the major fallout that Bioware is going through now.

Main thing that killed SWTOR was how they made thier overall game worlds totally dead and lifeless. Total immersion killer for me. Didn't even apply different day and night cycles for the different planets and no science fiction atmosphere at all for the universe.

100% agree with you here.

The impatience and angst I saw from a few who discovered they had to read and at least pay attention occasionally makes me feel confident this game truly will weed out that type after one month.

I think this might be one of the few games you could safely say won't "dumb it down" after a few months as the entire game is designed around not being that way.

Excellent reply Dahkot! I want to be in the same guild/cabal as you already! 52 yrs old here and I have been banned from these boards more times than I care to count because of all the juvenile asshat delinquents posting idiocy that gets me so mad that I can't help myself and reply while pissed off and get myself banned for stating my opinion. Sometimes I think the entire staff of mmorpg is ran by 13 yr olds completly (of course I know it isn't but still...)

/v/irgin from 4chan's /v/idya gaems board here - in 99 out of 100 cases, quote-unquote "4chan morons" are scumbag /b/tards. All the other 4chan boards despise /b/ with a passion. Our apologies.

I'm surprised how much the better  lip-sync (compared to the beta) improved my 'immersion' to the game - makes the cut-scenes much more enjoyable.

This is good for gamers, I think it's good for Funcom as well as their vision was to build a smaller sub niche game - which TSW is.  This can be a very profitable model as long as you scale your infrastructure and control costs accordingly - you can have a  sub-100K playerbase game that is profitable.

They have already stated what their projections are:

Target scenario

Client sales 30 % higher than Age of Conan
Majority of digital client sales
Subs/client price as Age of Conan
In-game store sales/uptick amounting to 35 % of subs. revenue
Healthy retention; 490,000 average subscribers

Conan-like scenario

1,050,000 client sales first year
Poor retention (only slightly better than Age of Conan) 280,000 average subscribers
Other assumptions as above

These were reaffirmed in their most recent report.

So the question is, in a story-driven MMO with a limited amount of content, especially when people reach QL10, will they be able to deliver enough things to do to retain these subs past the first 2 months to meet these retention projections. Further, how quickly and effectively will they be able to deliver the promised game changes (e.g. plastic surgery, dungeon finder)?

"Loading screens" are not "instances".
Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.

What game has better quests than this? Please tell me because I want to play that game.

Every MMO I have ever played has consistend for collect quests, fetch quests and escort quests. Even SWTOR just had this tired formula hidden underneath cutscenes instead of quest text.
