First, thank you for posting all the quotes and questions from the interview, saves me the time of having to search for it.
Second, it seems to me that blizzard is getting in the habit of putting words into their customer's mouths. They are not the only company doing this, and I have yet to see it work well. If you have to lie and whip out straw man arguments, you probably should not be the person talking to a journalist.
What we really need to see coming from blizzard is an acknowledgement of the disappointment they have caused their fans, and a promise (followed by action) to improve. Whether or not you personally enjoy the game, I am sure you are aware of the large number of people that are unhappy with it. The solution is not blizzard's current route of telling them they are wrong, the solution is to start acting on suggestions. There are several suggestions that I think nobody could deny would be improvements to the game, such as:
8 Player Multiplayer More interesting weapon mechanics (my wiz with a bow is the same as my wiz with a staff) Overhauled loot system ( loot %, valor, making bosses valuable) Some limitations on elite packs
There are far more suggestions mind you, but I imagine that both loyal fans and disappointed fans would like to see the above changes.
I have been trying to put my finger on why I have no desire to keep on hunting for loot, like I had in D2. My current best guess is that the weapons are just stat sticks - I can have characters running around with weapons that make no sense for them to be holding, and frequently end up doing just that since the weapon type is insignificant and the stats on the weapons that drop seem to rarely match the weapon type (str wand?). Previous "best guesses" include random dungeons really just being the same rooms in a different order, the dungeons frequently being an annoyingly linear series of hallways with occassional side rooms that have no real purpose, character classes I personally dislike, and the rapid levelling up.
Judging from what I have heard about the games files, the entire game is written with easy variables in place to increase mobs to match player level, presumably for ease of future expansions. It should be just as easy to tweak numbers to support more simultaneous players. If their servers are struggling, I think they can afford to invest in some new servers. Alternatively they could continue to release patches with the same mindset they have now, driving gamers away en masse to lower the strain on the servers. (ok maybe that last comment was uncalled for)
Blizzard's statements continue to be along the lines of "you are not playing the game the way it is intended," when I wish they would really think harder about playing the game to have fun, first, and worrying about "exploits" and nerfing in a game that has no pvp yet second. |

[mod edit] The only things better about D3 than D2 is the graphics, and the RMAH (a feature which I actually like, many would disagree). Someone please tell me ONE thing about Diablo 3 which makes it better than Diablo 2, gameplay wise. Not "no more cheating" or "less bugs" or "more updates". But a gameplay feature, that makes Diablo 3 better than Diablo 2. I logged slightly over 100 hours on my main character, now I haven't played in almost 2 weeks. The game is just so bland. The feel of the game, is awesome. So are the graphics and the story and all the things which you can see with the naked eye. But the gameplay mechanics, compared to Diablo 2, make the game boring as hell. _________ Watching: Darkfall: Unholy Wars, Elder Scrolls Online, ArcheAge, Camelot Unchained, Bless, Black Desert Online, Lineage Eternal, MU 2. Always hating on instances in MMOs! Open worlds, open PvP, territory control and housing please. More persistence, more fun. |

d2 had more up to date graphics for its time then d3 so technically d2 also has better graphics ;D |

D2's variety was nearly unparalleled.
Entire builds could vary from one to the other, and each was viable in it's own way - let alone when you throw certain gear sets and stat allocations into the mix.
Hell I had several full-out tweaker sorcs that did basically nothing but cast Static Field like a eel on meth then spammed Charged Bolt until the whole screen exploded at once. AND I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF EACH.
The only reason I even quit D2 was during a hardware failure the asshats deleted my characters because I was offline for 90 days.
