Oh yeah, forgot about the arenas in the main cities in Aion.  Does the exact same thing.  Sorry, bcbully, Aion beat you to the punch.  It has the exact same mechanics.  The only difference is the setting.

Hell, you can even youtube videos if you want.

People need to understand that the fightclubs are FFA and not really limited.

Yes they're instanced if you want to call it that, but they don't work like the arenas in WoW or whatever, you don't form up teams, enter a queue and fight vs. other teams. You can enter at any time and freely fight and team up with those, who are allready in the fightclub.

So, yes. It's a nice change actually that was never done before. Fightclubs are a place where you can do some 100% casual PvP just for the fun of it, not loosing or winning anything, not having to wait for a match to begin, etc, etc, etc

In the free for all arenas in WoW you don't form up teams either you just walk in and you can fight anyone, its not even instanced all you do is walk up the arena and go in, there are no rewards either other than in gurubashi arena where a loto box spawns once a day or something.

Another of WoW's FFA PvP Fightclub areas had a named boss in it that required a group.  If by game changer you mean every major MMO ever made had it and like most major MMOs they have it in an out of the way area where few will use it then OK.

Games that have this, SWTOR, WoW, Aion, Everquest 1 and everquest 2,  age of conan, any others?  Everquest 1 put it in the bazaar and it was often empty, would be the same as putting it where the argat stone ports you in.

These all share one of the fatal flaws I listed.  Either being in the middle of nowhere, or being group only, or even have level requirment.

These are all things that limit accessability. There are no limits in TSW fight clubs. The closes thing to them is Dalaran Sewers. The Sewers where huge for the Wrath of The Lich King pvp community,  but  it was a much smaller area and not FFA. The Fight Clubs will be where the PvP community hangs out. Mark my words.

Aion was in the middle of the main cities, no level requirement, and open to anyone to come in.  (I've been ganked by higher levels before running in there to finish that damn ribbon quest.)  Exactly like the fight club in TSW.  Go login to the game its f2p if you don't believe me.

EQ had non-instanced FFA PVP areas and an instanced one. UO was almost completely FFA PVP. Runescape had a FFA PVP area that was avoided like the plague because of gankers. Hardly new concepts.

I beleave you. No need to look. Aion isn't the second largest mmo p2p mmo for nothing.

Now remember TSW has one server tech. No transfers needed to join an event. You can travel to the deminsion that is host the Fight Club event and stay there until you log off. This gives players the power to bring the entire TSW PvP community together at anytime.

Gankers? Yeah that's not the TSW Fight Clubs. Sounds like you stood to lose something in those other games for joining.

Aions FFA arena was only for those of the same faction. Elmo vs Elmo, Asmo vs Asmo. And the only time they were used is when higher levels would grief lower levels trying to finish a quest.

QFE;

It's good that they added a feature for people to allow their preferred type of PvP but it's definitely not a game changer:

  • It's been done before (to some degree) and changed nothing
  • It relies on players to be proactive in setting up these tournaments- today's gamers want the game to set everything up for them- it's an issue of convenience.

Again, not saying it's a bad feature but it's certainly no game changer.

Yeah I've toned it down a bit since NDA has lifted. Just the facts atm. Don't fret though I'm working on my "All other games SUCK" thread for launch.

just kidding about the second part...

This maybe would've worked 10 years ago, now not so much.  The crowd of gamers these days demands a reward of some kind for the actions they do in a game.  Either gear, an achievement to work towards or some statistical ranking to brag about.  I doubt very much that these fight clubs will even be populated after a month when the novelty wears off.
