Originally posted by sonoggi pfft, coming from a closed beta tester: they have delivered everything they promised and added a ton of features they said they would try to make happen. For once, them saying "we are holding the content back" isn't some cheap trick. You can come back and taunt me post launch if I am wrong. ;) |

Originally posted by jdnyc Why do people asume that just because someone says bad things about TSW they are a GW2 fanboy? I have raided in EQ2 for years and I have something to tell you. Nothing TSW does encounter wise is new. It's all recycled from other games in one form or anouther. I'll go one step farther and say that on the whole TSW encounters are dumbed down versions of older MMO's like EQ2. At least in EQ2 when a AOE is imcoming they don't draw a circle on the floor to tell you where it's going to hit. |

Originally posted by udon I'm glad you brought this up I had to think about it for a second.
PvP in the fight clubs in not bolstered in any way. I think what it is, matter of fact I'm sure the reason is in PvE there is a hard glancing mechanic while fighting mobs based on weapon skill There is no hard glancing mechanic in PvP. Chance to glance in PvP is determined by your opponents defense I think it is.
So nothing you said was wrong, just taken for a PvE stand point instead of a PvP stand point :) No that being said you aint gonna steam roll no nightmare mode cus you got some good gear ;) Excuse my language. Originally posted by bcbully And that in itself is a form of gear progression. You do solo content to get the gear to run easy dungeons, you do easy dungeons to get the gear to run harder dungeons, and run harder dungeons to get the gear to run even harder dungeons, so on and so on until a expansion is released that raises the cap to QL11 at which point you start all over. That's a gear grind game. I'm not saying that's right or wrong I'm saying that's how the game is designed and people who are telling you otherwise are mistaken. |

Originally posted by sonoggi Honestly, if these guys are even being remotely honest this is going to be a rather impressive launch. 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |

I've flat out had to give up on a couple quest before with all broken gear. With what I had, I just couldn't do it. I had bitten off more than I could chew. Now there were some where I died, went back switched builds and breezed though for whatever reason. You will be pushed, especially if you are the type to push yourself. Could I go back and do those now? I think I could lol.
2. There are faction quest for faction rank. I don't know how many, but from what I understand it is a viable way of progression. There are faction clothes unlocks and your faction story is different. If TSW has a weak spot it would be the actual difference between the factions.
This is why the Secret War Game was so ingenious. Befroe the game I eas a dragon because I liked what they were about. By week two I HATED the lumies... still do lol. From what I understand there will be more things like this in the future. I think FC goal is to build faction pride not so much faction differences.

Originally posted by udon by doing half of the zones, you can get Qlv 10 gear and max the skills you need for your weapons (not abillities), so you spend half of the game getting better with just better builds/synergies and adapting to the enviroment... you don't need to grind, if you play alongside the game, you will have more than enought gear for the content you are on, your abillities and builds is going to be far more important than gear after half the game.
first half -game is more linear (you get gear Qlv 1- 10) second half -game uses horizontal progression, better gear (blues and purples and glyphs and signets) are not going to make you that much more powerfull, a better build will make you stronger than a blue weapon instead of a green one. |

Look there's a few bugs and stuff, its funcom after all, but its no worse than swtor launch or gw2 beta in that regard, not as polished as rift beta, but decent enough.
What is great is the very different approach to well just about anything. I can safely say between them gw2 and tsw promise to be the best mmos of the last 10 years, I'm going as far back to eve, planetside and may be very early wow since I had this much fun in mmos. |

I do not have jdnyc number nor do I know who he is in game lol. Now that I'm thinking about it I was i in a awesome progression WoW guild for 3 years and there was a guy named John Dog and he was from NYC. One of the 3 best tanks I've ever seen. JD was just a damn good gamer.
JD is that you?!?! DamonVile- Games built for disposable players are now apparently built by disposable employees. |

Gear is important, but not THAT important, sure it ain't gw2 gear wise, but it ain't wow either. The gearing reminds me most of daoc.

Originally posted by udon Oookay I will leave it at this. Yes there is gear progression, but not like WoW were every 3 months you gear is lets say un wanted. You don't need ql10 gear to do the hardest stuff. You do need skill level 10 weapons. Like I said earlier if there is a grind it's a skill level grind. You can get max skill level in no time though.
I think you are breaking things down to the simplest form, and over simplifying while doing it. Yes TSW is a game with gear. You are right. DamonVile- Games built for disposable players are now apparently built by disposable employees. |

The zone progession.
Does the game take you from Zone A -> Zone B -> Zone C until you get to the final zone? Or does progression open up horizontally when you get to the top few zones? I read someone talking about his one time and haven't heard much about it since.
Is Quality 10 the best quality gear in the game? SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever! |

QL10 is the best. It can be crafted or dropped from nightmare mode dungeons. I will tell you this right now, nightmare dungeons are hard, but crafting QL10 is effing brutal. It is its own reward though since it matches the best gear in the game. The stories and QL guide you through all the zones in order. But you can skip it if you like. All it requires is a QL minimum to get places which can be gotten via SP. You can get SP from pvp and dungeons so in essence, you could get out of the tutorial and grind polaris for a week and open up the entire gameworld or live in Fusang for a week or two and get the same result. I liked challenging myself to tougher content so I went through the zones in order. Make no mistake, if you plan on unlocking every skill and ability you will be repeating a lot of content. Fortunately (for me), I love the content this game offers so it has been a pleasure revisiting zones and quests |

Originally posted by Zylaxx Honestly man there isn't one. I know Iknow crazy right? There are too many ways to play to have a FOTM. I see blood magic in some way shape or form being used a lot.. I can't say it's a FOTM like 3.0 ret palies or 1.0 sabs in RIFT though. Blood is a versitile section of the tree. People just like it iguess DamonVile- Games built for disposable players are now apparently built by disposable employees. |

Originally posted by DannyGlover I like the content too. It seems pretty fun so far. Your answer leads me to someother questions.
Is there an auction house or some equivalent where you can purchase quality 10 gear from other players? In other words, if I have the funds, can I step up to ubergodmode in Kingsmouth if I have another character supplying me equipment?
I understand there is really no real reason to make another character besides aesthetics since you can get every skill in the game, but could I feed my friend quality 10 gear when he first starts the game? SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever! |
