Anyone else starting to feel overwhelmed? It feels like one game on top of another on top of another over and over and over.

It's already been a game heavy year and now it looks like 10 or 12 more games are lining up to slam us with more pre-order/pre-puchases.

I don't know about the rest of you but after 3 or 4 years of  2 -3 game releases a year, this 10-20 a year stuff is starting to hurt.

Maybe a little bit.

Choice is good. :)

If you see no good or you see no bad in a game, chances are you are bias.

Choice also spoils and makes it difficult for new competitors to stand out, specially on the MMO market. Good luck trying to be big, your fighting and uphill battle were your given no chance to even attempt to bring the game fully to life with people expecting perfection with content up the level of games that have been around for a long time.

With F2P, its allowing for greed to flourish more since they have more reason to sell a bunch of stuff. Look at Lotro... they are trying to make people buy an expansion without much of the content even included.

Yep choice is good imo as well :)

I don't buy games that don't appeal to me. Probably like most other game players out there I start with gameplay footage and reviews to get an idea if I like it as well as a trial of some sort.

As far as this year goes I'll only buy 1 game.

No.

1) choice is good.

2) a lot of games are either F2P, or cheap.

There are very few releases i will go and purchase at relase price. Only games like Diablo 3 that I KNOW it is fun will get my dollars from the first day.

Even Deus Ex Human Evolution, which is a great great RPG, got me to buy after it is discounted on Steam. There is too little time to really catch up on all the new release anyway .. so my strategy is to be choosy how to spend my $$.

What is wrong with that? Dev put in more effort, and consumers like us reap the rewards. Not polished, not a good game, no business from me .. it is that simple.

Bite my fiery metal ass!

I know exactly what you're saying. Not only is my wallet a bit light lately, but my backlog of games to play is growing a bit large. I've got maybe 20 games in my Steam library I haven't even played yet, plus a whole TON of games I need to beat.

I shouldn't complain though, variety is good and I'm lucky to be able to afford to buy so many games. I just need to cut down on the impulse buys (curse you Steam sales!).

I saw this coming in 2011, the major games in the 21st century waiting list are dropping in 2012, and I bought half of them XD

Not overwhelmed at all- I don't feel any need to buy every game that is released.

3) all MMO in the last years have been crap and not worth to play longer than the free month, or in case of F2p just days. so we would need more than 50 games a year for seamless gameplay.

played: Everquest I (6 years), EVE (3 years)
months: EQII, Vanguard, Siedler Online, SWTOR, Guild Wars 2
weeks: WoW, Shaiya, Darkfall, Florensia, Entropia, Aion, Lotro, Fallen Earth, Uncharted Waters
days: DDO, RoM, FFXIV, STO, Atlantica, PotBS, Maestia, WAR, AoC, Gods&Heroes, Cultures, RIFT, Forsaken World, Allodds

Why do you buy games you are not about to play?

Traditionally, the SAME game will decrease in price over time. The only time i will purchase a game off steam, when i have yet time to play it, is when Steam is running a big promotion on the exact game on the list. Usually i won't purchase until i have time to start playing a game.

I do keep a list of games i want to play though, and as you say, the backlog is long.

Out of curiosity (seriously), do people feel that a person who participates on this forum should play a minimum number of new games per year as a pre-requisite of participating in discussion of the genre in general?

Weird, WoW generated a no-choice situation and that happened anyway.

Tbh, I don't agree. When there are a lot of competitors, they are usually less powerful, so it's easier to get ahead of them all. On the other hand, when you have a monster that has most of the market share, that's almost a monopoly.

I gave up on my backlog LONG time ago, lol...

Let's just say some of us have way too much free time on our hands and leave it at that.

I am kind of like the other poster here that is impulsive, except I am also crazy, so my impuses tend to not even need a sale to get me whipping out the credit card.

Remember back when MMOs were good enough to play for years straight?

MMOs are glorified single-player games now. Or should I say, co-op lobby games. Lobby meaning, standing in the hub waiting for LFG to que.

i'm not only impulsive but have short attention spam...

Thats a terrible combination for a gamer.

I buy many games, play lots of them but finish very few.

I'm the guy who plays mmos for years but never reached max lvl in any of them nor developed a character to full potential in a sandbox. I'm almost quiting mmos because of that, i guess i was not meant to play the same game for that long(lol).

So yes... the rain of awsome game releases hit me (and my wallet) pretty hard.

I like allot of choices. Most likely will be playing tribes ascend, smite and probably GW2 as far as pc games go.

Not much of an issue considering about 1/3 of the games that get released are any good. I'd rather go back to seeing 3-4 great games come out a year than 15-20 shit games.

I'm making my way back to PC anyway since consoles are just lagging behind and the variety is either FPS, FPS, FPS, FPS, and an RPG.

I've saved money lately because many of the games coming out just aren't worth my money. They are blatent cash grabs that I avoid like the plague.. Its kinda funny. The more you hype something without showing definitive reasons why its good the more I beleive the game will stink because you are trying to hide something..

Ive been right more often than not as I avoided the trainwreck known as SWTOR and a few other games that went rather shallow. Although I admit i was wrong bout Rift, they got me with that your not in azeroth anymore and they ended up like azeroth than I wished for and so I quit. Not worth my time..

GW2 - Overhyped - Seems uber casual and the rabid fanboyism just screams do not buy

TSW - Not sure about this one, its not hyped as much as I had expected. It is made by funcom who doesn't have the best track record (then again what publisher of a AAA title coming out this year really does) but does try to innovate , On the flip side its published by EA who has the worst track record and makes SOE look like Angels....

All the games ive bought recently have been worth the investment such as skyrim, skyward sword for my wii console etc..

Developers need to start making games that differ from the norm & just arent a clone of another game in a new skin. They need to have depth and replayability, and for online games they need to have a community and things that keep that community together.

Meh, if I see a game that looks fun, I buy it. Even if I don't have time to play it now, someday I will.

*looks at stack of unplayed/unfinished PS1, PS2, PS3, Gamecube, GBA, DS and PSP games

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
