Perhaps it's that knowledge (EA being the publisher) that creates the venom you're seeing, and it's less likely to be censored and locked here as opposed to the "official" forums. |

Originally posted by Shoju I agree. What I really find this site useful for is two things, one was already stated (entertainment). The other thing I use it for is to find the name of a new MMO to try and play when I am between MMO's (beats google). Best thing to do when looking for a new game to try is look at the features and see if they are things you would like |

People tend to focus in one the aspects they REALLY like or REALLY hate. Official forums are typically places where people enjoy the game or are already fans of the game. I see a lot of people on MMORPG.com that think because they've played X many amount of MMOs, they not only know what makes a good game (or easily identify a "bad" one) they believe they know what the masses will like as well.
That said, I enjoyed my short time in Secret World, but I didn't get an MMO feel from it. I can see myself running through it once for the horror themed story (anything Lovecraftian gets me) but then not bothering with it once afterward.
It was pretty okay. It wasn't the worst thing I played, but it certainly wasn't the most engrossing either. |

Originally posted by D3lit3 Many people tend to be very negative on here and feel the need to rip everything. I have learned not to trust much of what I read on these forums. Trust me there are some very good posts here, pro and con for games, but more often than not, I find I need to play things myself to see what I think and if it will work for me. If you like the game, it doesn't matter what others think, play it and enjoy it. |

I started the weekend beta ready to pre order but after 4 hours I could not take the gameplay and deleted it from my HD happy that I still had my money in my bank account. Now it is back to playing SWOTOR till GW2 I like a lot of things about the game but the animation and combat just did not cut it for me. I say each to their own, and no ill will towards the ones that enjoy it |

If you go to buy something do you only read the 5 star ratings? If you want to find out the good and bad about that Ice cream maker you like, you should read a sample of all the different ratings (some positive ratings glance over or minimize problems that maybe you want to know about).

It gets tricky here because people will hate on a game to the point of spreading misinformation about it. The official forums tend to get overly positive and you cant get a straight answer on concerns or reservations. For me, it boils down to experiencing something myself and there are a few posters here and there that I can trust to be less agenda based than others. |

OP - you say 'negative' I say 'Objective'. the TSW forums are no doub't visted by believers versus people on these forums who critique the game for what it is, not what it hopes to be. ( the danger being that it might no become that - so irrelevant at this point ) At least 90% of the posts on TSW are fair in their criticism of certain elements of gameplay IMO - why do we need to be polite when we say "some of the combat animations are terrible" ? FC released the beta for our feedback - ppl here have given it.... |

I was on the fence but after this weekend and at times watching general chat I am buying this game, why you might ask? I will tell you, because it will turn off the entitlement, I want it now with no effort crowd, I never saw soo many dumb questions asked by the same people over and over and over. These people do not take the time to figure out these investigation quests then scream in general the quest is broke, I have never played a game where I had to step back and think about what I was doing the way you do here. On top of that there are certain people on these forums that only like one game and will do everything in their power to bash any competition (just look at their post history). Play the beta and decide for yourself if the game is for you, after all the beta costs nothing but some time unlike another game that requires a cash outlay for the most part to even sample it.
Anyhow back to beta because I am having a freaking blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I posted a bit to the official forums, few months ago, but over half the threads I posted in got locked or deleted. Or "cleaned up" in a way that removed entire pages of replies. Not because of my posts, but someone would get a little too negative, and the mod would shut down the whole conversation. Seemed like it happened to almost every thread that had a critical slant to it.
So yeah, that sort of climate can make the whole atmosphere seem more positive, especially for a niche game where that kind of moderation is more viable. Working as intended, I guess, but I sure as hell wouldn't post there anymore, even when I was still interested in the game. When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world. |

MMORPG.com is sort of a neutral ground where people can post their opinions without getting swarmed by an angry group of fanboys who, instead of playing the game that they love, for some reason waste their time on the forums. Plus the mods on the official forums have the same interpretation of "freedom of speech" as the KGB.

The game is good in alot of ways....unfortunatley, it fails in the most important section of all: comabt.
The world is really cool and fun to explore, even better are the NPC's, they are some of the coolest NPC's in terms of desing to ever enter an MMO worlds.....although they arent the smartest :P.
But in the end, how fun a game is, is what matter. And the combat is just straffing and hammering 2 or 3 number keys, WITHOUT much thought process required.
I dont think a whole dramatic combat system is what the next step is in MMO's, I think one that requires outthinking your opponent is what is really important, and so far the only MMO I have seen that in is GW2. (Trust me, I am not a GW2 fan, hated the first one, and swore against this one till I played it at a friends house last BW). Their combat system isnt really in depth, although the swapping wep sets adds a bit of variety. What I really felt in that game was having to outhink my opponent, waiting to use my skills at critical times. The best way I could describe is is LoL or Dota, you use your chars skills based on knowing what your opponent has. (I know LeBlanc has her ult, which is very heavy damage to AP, so I am going to wait and eat everything until she uses it to use my hop on Fizz). This is how I felt on GW2, which I feel TSW lacks. |
