How can you have rivals when you can't see their bloody name! How can you build good rivalries when they swap who you fight every 2 weeks. WvW is fun but it will never have the longevity of rvr. It's just so much more "gamey". I will play gw2, but I don't expect to play it for years like daoc. My hopes for that rest with TESO and planetside2 (providing it doesn't have pay 2 win)

This is my first opportunity at Beta so my experience thus far has all been in Kingsmouth. I'm BIG on story and I enjoy themparks, I like LOTRO, SW TOR and Guild Wars/Guild Wars 2 for story but I'm having a problem with staying motivated to keep on with TSW.... I think the problem with TSW for me is that.. I dunno... it developes really slow, slower it seems, if you can believe it, than LOTRO and SW TOR. And I think it's because I am not really enjoying all the sidequests/missions that I need to do to build up my character to move on to the next main story/questline. There is a TON of quests in Kingsmouth, and I'm just not feeling most of them. Maybe the hearts and DE in GW2 ruined me on traditional questing type games, (and no matter what they say, both GW2 and TSW are traditional quest/themepark games with a slight variation to the questing formula, the difference is that GW2 makes it feel less like your run of the mill themepark than TSW does)
Just my opinion. |

Everyone bangs on about the pvp in gw2 like its the best pvp ever made, but its not, its better than the wow clone nonsense we've been force fed for the past 8 years, but its not as good as older games like eve, daoc & planetside.
The thing that is great in gw2 is the pve. I like gw2 for the same reason I like tsw, it has non formuliac interesting pve that even a heavy pvper like me can enjoy. |

Originally posted by Mephster the problem is not that people say it is good or bad, it is because there is putted very little energy into explaining what exactly it is they think is good. its just like the usual sentence you see in my beta´s, the game become good at level x ..... but rarely explain what happens at that level - usually found it to be the levels where instance grinding starts, and to me that point wouldnt safe a MMO for me...but can as well be alot of other things. finally found someone who enjoy TSW to talk about the actual game, beyond the if you dont like it, go play one of your beloved WoW clones, and atleast found a part that Id find awesome - am not sure it will safe this game for me, but the energy they put into out of game connections to what happen inside of the game is nothing but amazing imo....gives a sense of the game is bigger than what happens inside of it. didnt get to play it this weekend sadly, and for me too the little I saw inside of the game were just bad to me, didnt like the way it played and because of the setting, it just annoyed me you couldnt interact with the environment, as you d expect by now, just makes the game feel like one from the late 90s....but what Ive heard and seen actually made me want to atleast try it once again... |

Originally posted by maitrader I played Rift, SWTOR and will be playing GW2. I also played pre NGE SWG, I play EVE, I will be playing the repopulation and I even used to play Ryzom a good few years ago. I love MMORPGs I try to play them all because you never really know until playing them if they will come good, you are just being narrowminded and trying to make yourself feel like you are better than everyone else because you "Get" the secret world and others don't. ![]() |

I understand that. You understand that. Most people, however, suffer from what you'd learn in Sociology 101 as ethnocentrism. Essentially they create the 'in group' and the 'out group.' The 'in group (even if completely identical or even inferior)' is 'better.' The out group (even if better) is 'worse.'
With that said, I love GW2. It meets a tremendous number of my MMO gaming needs. I have alsol really liked TSW (in one beta-day I got to play) and will probably even pre-order because, it too, meets a lot of my adventure/story MMO needs. I may even upgrade to 'lifetime.' Because it's a game that has incredibly strong story elements which satisfies those MMO gaming needs.
As a RTS MMO, the both suck. As FPS MMOs, they both suck. As rush to end-game to gear-check and cookie-cutter-builds, both suck. But I'm not going to be playing TSW for the reasons I'll be playing GW2. And I won't play it if is Yet Another WoW Clone (YAWC).

After reading this entire thread, i am kind of curious why others keep telling me i hate TSW because i like GW2. I love them both they offer me different gameplay, and since TSW has a sub and GW2 does not i can just be pleased as a peach with playing both games. People make these sweeping generalizations and posit them as facts and its just not in anyway helpful to getting there point across.
Anywho, i love GW2 and i love TSW and i pre-ordered them both..... ummm, ITS MY MONEY AND I WANT IT NOW !

A personal preference, no matter how expressed, is not a fact. So unless you have a reasonable, technical explanation, why the MMO is 'badly designed' it's merely an opinion of taste. Though, if you have professional cachet, like Bartle, Yee or a successful professional game developer like Koster, I might listen to your opinion and give it strong weight.
But right now, it's just another yammer voice in a cocophany of people arguing about taste.
Here's an opinion of taste: I think SWTORs stories sucked. But that doesn't mean they're not, for many people, 'good stories.' They are not good stories to me and I was quite off-put by the glaring plot holes, MacGuffins, Deus Ex Machina, unbelievable set-ups, false choices, stuck-on-rails aspects, the down-right palagerized crappiness of many of them, phony space-magic phyiscs and what-not. So, if someone else wishes to ignore all that and 'like the stories' GOOD FOR THEM. I'm happy for them. They are entitled to like them or not regardless of my feelings about them.
After all, even bad story tellers can use an audience. And not everyone can be a Hemmingway or a Saliinger or even a Stephen King... |
