I am confused by the OP. The game, even if you never played it, never watched the videos, etc. Just reading a little on the website pretty much TELLS you the atmosphere of the game. Why would you expect it to be all sugarplums and lolipops when the game isn't designed as such?
It's 'real world' with a horror setting. thats painfully obvious, and any amount of reaserch would have only further strengthened that point.
I mean assume you lept into hello kitty online, then got all upset that there were no adult themed scenes... would you at ALL feel your point was valid?
No, TSW has a GREAT idea, and due to not a lot of other games with this atypical atmosphere, its 'unique'.
I am more afraid of the other failings of the game. The story, questing system(When it dont bug..lol) and 'feeling' of the game are top notch imo. The lack of mouselook, VERY slow and boring combat(VERY boring combat, it really quite saddens me) and amount of 'unfinished' and buggy things ingame(which will be fixed sometime after release at least) are holding it back. It will prob get kicked out the door and into sales by EA LONG before its ready, and this may really hurt thier chances out there, but I know for certian that it will do better than SWTOR in teh long run. At least people going in know what they are getting into.
I pray it speeds up combat, makes it more enjoyable(Because face it, 95% or more of the game is combat related, right now at this point, combat, in TSW, is just something u have to 'swallow' so u can get to the good stuff, the story, quests, etc) and also, the animations need some work. (Not that the animations bother me so much, but for how nice the world looks, it annoys me when NPC's just look unnatural, and my toon stares off at a random point when he should be following the speaking npc's face)
All in all, as it is, I DO think its worth the 50-65ish bucks to get in. I'm not 100% certian(For me anyways) if its worth a sub... the lack of 'fun' while fighting/combat kinda kills it for me.
But all that said, if you have NOT snagged a beta key this weekend, please do, give it a shot(play an hour or so) and make your own judgments. try to look past the shitty combat and animations, and really see what the 'story' is about. (Think your typical zombie survialist game with LOTS of references to lovecraft and king books... hell if u are an avid reader of both/either, make quests will be like little pleasent reminders of the books you have read) |

I certainly hope the game as a level of complexity that weeds out the trash. Should make a good base for a good player community for once. |

It doesn't make me less of a language nazi though; I find it annoying that people seem to think it's ok to write illiterate gibberish just because they do it on a forum (or on the internet in general). If you can't express yourself properly, learn to do so before expecting people to understand you and take you seriously. If you insist on posting anyway, at least show some humility - raging about the fact that nobody understand you won't get you very far while learning a new language. |

TSW is definitely not for everyone. Personally I love it, its filled to the brim with the kind of atmosphere which you would find in a Lovecraft novel, coupled with adequate character customisations, decks and fully voiced content, I believe that it can hold my interest for a long while. I'm seriously getting an "Alan Wake" vibe from it. But for some, the learning curve will be hard, the gloomy atmosphere and quests which require investigation and a semblance of human intelligence will probably be a turn off. |

I'm on the oposite side of the OP. The atmosphere is one of the BEST things about the game, for me at least.
you mean I actually get to fight things other than dragons, orcs, spiders, and the typical fantasy cannon fodder? zomg
Combat is meh, but its not a game breaker for me.
Still on the fence about pre-ordering though, mostly due to personal finances. If money wasnt an issue, id pre-order in an instant. |
