Will make my impression short: Played TSW a lot this weekend, played all 3 factions and tried to use a variety of the skills aviliable. Game is okay, a 5/10, a middle of the road type - It will get subpar reviews, it will have a subpar population base and that's that. It was not (in my opinion) as fun or smooth as Guild Wars 2, no where near. It had a better setting (fantasy setting is getting old) but that is the only area it outshined GW2. Story - I thought the story was fun, not incredible, but fun. Setting - the game's selling point really, the setting is awesome. Graphics - strange, they are decent to good but I thought the character models were blocky and odd, especially character movement (jumping). I'm not the first to complain of this. Gameplay - 5/10, game isn't really groundbreaking, skill wheel is cool and the decks are cool but overall the gameplay is similar to everything else out there, run around spamming your skills until the mob is dead. The one big missing aspect of all this though is PvP/End game content - Yes it's absolutly important, and none of it has been shown yet in game. Maybe, just maybe the PvP aspect is incredible (unlikely), that would dramatically change my overall impression of the game, unfortunatly PvP was not implemented for this beta (which I thought to be odd with the release date only 2 weeks away). I have a feeling that PvP will be plagued by balance issues among the different skill sets, also in a game where everyone can be anything I fear that cookie cutter builds will be the norm. It will be very hard to differentiate yourself from other players IMO - When everyone is special, no one is. |

I will just quote your own words of wisdom.
Originally posted by crysent To the OP: I don't think you are missing anything. GW2 (just like every other MMO) is not going to please everyone. If it's not your taste, it's not your taste. For me it fills the PvP hole in my chest I've been feeling for so long. I like the quick pace and action of the PvP, it fits what I was looking for. However, it can't and won't be everything to everyone - GW2 devs seemed to have focused on the PvP aspect of the game more then the PvE aspect. Some will love it, some will like it and some will not. And on that that note..i wish you well and hope you enjoy your time in GW2. |

Originally posted by Sameer1979 Yea, I feel this way about TSW I guess, althought I think the difference i feel between GW2 and TSW is that GW2 has this open world SvSvS aspect that is innovative and drawing a lot of hype from people, it's something that really hasn't been seen before. The problem TSW has is that it doesn't have anything that has not been seen before on a scale like GW2. Again, I'm not sure how PvP will be though...maybe they have a trick up their sleeve? |

Originally posted by crysent When game is not for someones taste then it is pointless to analyze things. TSW is a game which not everyone will like because it is not made for mass consumption. I don't think Funcom has the same aim and goal which Anet has set up for thmselves where they want to beat WOW in terms of sales and success. TSW has already found its niche audience. It has three servers in beta for crying out loud. As far as being different TSW has plenty of it but at the same time i am glad it is nothing like GW2. If every MMO would be like GW2 what would be the fun in that? two very different MMOS for two very different playerbase. No comparison at all. |

Yeah i see a lot of this. People who are absolutely pumped about GW2 hate this game.
Personally im fine with that crowd disliking and shunning the game. Its the same crowed i played Aion at launch with, and Rift at launch, and SWTOR at launch...not only do they ALWAYS choose to overhype a medicore but i find myself with a jam packed block list and global chat closed...something i certainly didnt have to worry about while beta testing TSW. Its a completely diffrent crowd and this game appeals to a completely diffrent gamers tastes, and i believe that was the goal in development.
While i played GW2 i saw the standard community i had grow to dislike, concerned only with most OP class and quickest rout to endgame, and easiest pvp win...on top of chat full of old meme jokes and LOL@Alienware topics, typically with people pretending that alienware is awesome and the people who will act shocked that people would make that comment...its a tired conversation that isnt even real...lol-troll i guess you could call it.
I wont comment on what i thought of that games core mechanics other than same old in a new package. Im sure it will be a good pvp game and im sure ill get around to playing it after launch some time (after the overhype crowd determins it a fail game and turns to haters of it and leaving of course) While in TSW community was more question/help and i actually saw a few real discussions, my hope is that it will be more like anarchy onlines community, which actually drove away the lol-troll kids or made them feel dumb enough to where they acted normal.
I would probablyt be happier in game with a sub pop around 50k-150k rather than a pop around 1-2mil as it seems the larger they get the harder it is to find normal people, and the cruddier player interaction becomes.
Bottom line with gameplay between the two, for me it seems GW2 is focused on players competing for dominance over eachother, where TSW seems more like a game you play to enjoy the game and figure out stuff.
The only thing i feel that is missing from TSW is some form of guild vs guild seiging mechanics, thats the pvp i love most as far as long term enjoyment.

I'm gonna try the secret world out, but not at release, I have that bad feeling that it will be riddled with launch problems, hopefully for the fans of the game it will not but when its funcom i'm playing it safe, I will most likely wait for a free trial after launch to try the game. I'll form my own opinion of it then. |

Yeah it kinda left me cold.. I'm sure some people will love it, but the gameplay didn't suit me either. Prefer GW2 also. |

Please tell me that you actually did play for more than an hour. You know, did multyple types of quests, got to the outer wheel, dungeons, crafting, anything. |

Hold on:
First its a hyperbole to say I'm "absolutely pumped for GW2" I'm older and find it hard to get pumped for just about anything in life INCLUDING video games...lol
Second, instead of attacking me personally, or trying to insult me, why don't you respond with WHY you think the game is niche, what makes it so niche, WHAT aspects you find innovative.
All I ask is we discuss the game and not me. Trust me, I'm not anything exciting. |

Originally posted by pandrax I did not want to call my post a review, that's why I stuck to the impression part - It was my impression based on the weekends open beta. Maybe it's just semantics, but I would consider a review to be more in depth, an impression is exactly that, what I thought after the limited weekend I played. |

Originally posted by pandrax *sigh* I assure you I was around in the late 90's, and have a fairly clear perspective on the online gaming evolution. No one so far in this post has said they are writing the game off forever. MAYBE it will be incredible a few months down the road, if the reviews coming out say that, or if I hear it is of course I would pick it up, I will pick up any game if I hear it's really improved. I don't understand: I post my impression based on the beta weekend and say I'm not overly impressed - > I get multiple replys in which people call me "totally pumped for GW2" and 'lacking perspective in the mmo genre to fully appreciate this incredible game'. |

Originally posted by Crunchy221 I think you are a bit deluded about TSW, the beta this weekend was like any beta weekend I have been in, chat was filled with the same crap as usual, the same trolls, the same fanboys, there was nothing different about what I saw in TSW general chat and GW2 general chat last weekend. ![]() |

Originally posted by pandrax Again, I feel there is some hyperbole here. Actually there is - Do I prefer GW2 based on each games betas? Yes. Do I feel a bias in the way people do about politics? Uhhhhh, no, I'm not that hardcore of a gamer. The way you guys are spinning this makes me think more of political type bias, that I'm some rabid, die hard GW2 fan who REFUSES to accept any other game out there.
Believe me, if I had though TSW was more fun then GW2 I would have jumped ships in a second. I played both betas, I enjoyed GW2 and found it more innovative for the reason I already listed. It's not that I have some incredible feeling about either game, or that I'm some rabid fan, I just found GW2 to be better at this point in time.
I never said I WOULD NEVER TRY TSW if it improved, and I never said GW2 was the best thing to happen to gaming since the invention of the computer. |

Originally posted by crysent Trust me, I'm playing Guild Wars2 at launch, I don't plan on buying TSW at launch. I am not a fanboy of Funcom, and I'm not overly impressed with TSW(or GW2 for that matter). Words are easily misunderstood, when you say "and thats that" that shows you are pushing your opinion as fact. Thats all I am getting at. I agree with the majority of what you said, but I have issues when people feel the need to speak about facts and opinions and get the two mixed up. :) ~ ~ Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams. |

Originally posted by Crunchy221 I'll have to disagree with this statement. Though I have not played TSW and not bashing it. GW2 is focused on many people working together to achieve a common goal, whether it is PvE (Chaining and taking down a Meta Event) or WvWvW, working with other group of players to take over a keep, a supply base, etc. Sure there's competition but I don't think it's the main focus. Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more. |

This game has too much work. I noticed all the flaws in the models - like seeing through the waistr line of your characters. Tears through the backgrounds, etc. For a game that is being released on July 3rd, there are SO many flaws. I think they are pushing out the game too fast. I did like the premise but the the console-style fighting really turned me off. |

This game is SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Why don't you actually think about the quest like an adult would? The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me. Now I remember why I turned off general chat. Etc, etc, etc. SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever! |
