I really don't mind the combat. It reminds me of any other game that I've played with hot bars.

The cut-scenes don't bother me. After seeing them and going thru with a different character, I just skip it. No problem.

I enjoy the investigation and sabotage missions.

Exploring from hub to hub is pretty cool. I don't  feel stuck in one area very long. At first, I kept returning to one hub to keep getting missions. But, someone in game said that was not necessary. If the game sends you out somewhere, chances are there will be more missions to do from there, and so on.

The only thing I don't like are paused quests. I don't like having to return to the person that gave me the mission to unpause it.

Outside of that, I'm enjoying the experience.

It's not about fighting, it's about balance. It's not about enlightenment, it's about balance. It's not about balance.

Im not sure where you get the TSW is trying to rush in front.. considering the original release date was planed in april. A ~2 months pushback doesnt seem like a rush ahead to me.

Alright then, then they're simply behind in quality even with their extra time.

The thing that makes people compare GW2 to WoW is probably the style of the graphics. GW2 doesn't look like it's been made in 2004 though.

I wouldn't say that either but if I had to choose TSW is more WoW-clone than GW2.

To me neither are wow clones for different reasons.

GW2 is traditional themepark, but evolved. Combat, quests, crafting, pvp, etc. It's even based on WAR, but it's not clone. it's the many different elements coming together that make it unique, but still similar.

TSW is indeed closer to normal themeparks, but when ir does something different, it really is so, not just an old concept improved upon. The investigation missions, crafting, story and lore, setting.

I like both games for this very reason. Different in their own way from the normal wow clone themepark, and different from each other at the same time.

  • The combat is very bad. Unlike other MMOs with poor combat, TSW forces you to pay a bit of attention to what you're doing in order to stay alive, without rewarding you with any actual fun for paying attention. It tries to combine the...blandness? of traditional MMO combat with the action combat of games like GW2 and TERA. I found myself avoiding content and interesting-looking quests because I wanted to avoid combat as much as possible.
  • The game's one strength is setting/story, and it destroys it by ruining your immersion. I get the sense that Funcom doesn't understand that setting and story is a two-way street, and that an immersive foundation is necessary to really get anything out of a well-crafted world. Why? Because the game refuses to let you get immersed. Between very poor animation, a GUI that looks like it came out of a F2P iPhone game, a constant stream of cheesy and unsubtle references, and having a lot of weird stuff forced on your character, the developers seem to think that immersion is one of the seven deadly sins. Nevermind being unable to play story instances with your friends--why does the game think a hamhanded, awkwardly acted scene in which my character recieves sexual favors is going to be well-recieved?
  • Funcom's behind this one. Enough said.

Unimpressed by the graphics and the milieu. Underwhelming combat - works like in any other traditional MMO only switch bows and crossbows with pistols and shotguns. And speaking of traditional MMOs, the "quests" are not much different from what we're used to. Finally, execution is poor considering that its 2-3 weeks from release - I had some performance issues but I don't know whether it was because of my PC, server stress or poorly optimized code.

It is far from being "next gen" but its different. Worth the free month if you have nothing else to kill your time.

Wow... wait... people are having issues with the already-tested portions of the game? Wow... I can't wait to hear what people will say once they reach the untested endgame. Prediction: biggest train wreck in all of gaming, dethroning Bruce Lee for the Xbox and ET for the Atari as the worst game of all time. Remember, I said it first!

some good idea and a poor execution, i could go on but i think everyone before me explained it good, its overall a poor quality product without immersion and a boring gameplay, everything feel buged or anckward, and i wouldn't care if the theme wasn't so original, cause there is some awesome idea in this soft its just too bad they will release like that, next month everyone will have forget completeley about even the name of TSW.

The skill based character development doesn't make up for the extremely linear progression and poorly arranged world. Making the character progession skill based doesn't stop the game from being just another bland WoW clone, or shall I say SW:TOR clone.

Actually, despite the game being set in the "real current world", you never feel being part of a world. If feels like playing a Max Payne game with a subscription - and the graphics, despite being DX11 (I ran the game with everything maxed out), don't feel any better than an old Max Payne game either.

Just like Age of Conan, Funcom failed making the player feel being part of a living, breathing world. Despite the character development being interesting and having some similarities with Funcom's only "good" game, Anarchy Online, and the setting being something totally new and fresh in the MMORPG industry, the game is bland and uninteresting and you get bored of it rather quickly.

Not for me. Good luck to whoever enjoys this though - but I suspect it will end just like AoC.

TSW around a long time? If this is the game they are putting out - well it is going to die faster the TOR.

NCSoft is th publisher - A.Net is the developer - 2 different things. And since GW2 release has not been published but TSW's is July 3rd - makes me think this will be the version they release. Sorry but a total fail.

Anet is a part of NCSOFT they are owned by NCsoft, so they have a much closer relationship than EA and Funcom.  That is fairly irrelevant though.

The thing is, the complaints are always the same: bad animations and character models. These can be fixed before launch, so, only time will tell

Has far has combat goes, it seems many people having negative feedback over it either played for less than 2 hours or never left Kingsmouth.

You underestimate how much time it takes to do that kind of stuff.

1) Design
2) Modelling
3) Rigging
4) Animating
5) Validation

In many cases, this is a cycle rather than a pipeline. To completely change the models and animations you're looking at about a year of development or so.

No way it even CAN be changed for release.

I'm not saying it will. However, like i already pointed out in other posts, 2 weeks ago nobody believed that the lack of impact in attacks, the sound effects, etc would be fixed before launch, much less this BWE, and yet, that's exactly what happened.

Creating better models and animations is indeed going to take more, but we don't know at which point the production is. CBT has been getting tons of patch updates (source is cake ;) ) and they might even be holding those back. It may happen or not,  but to say there's no way in hell is not right.

I can quite easily state to you that there's no way in hell the animations/models will change or improve.  Do you have any idea how much resources would be needed to even attempt that? Most of those people will be reasigned to creating cash shop content, changing a fundamental part of the design of the game is not part of their remit nor profitable. Wishing it based on your interpretation of better sound effects is deluded at best, there hasn't been any improvement on the combat interactions.  It still feels like slahing thin air most of time.

The only positive I can really say at SW is the setting has potential and for a Funcom game it's relatively stable, well for me anyway. The rest of it is average at best and really in this market it can't really justify a sub and a cash shop IMO

This looks like a job for....The Riviera Kid!

It's a better game than tor.
The world is more alive
It's less "corridory"
It's not hub style, you can go pretty much where you want within a zone
It's less instanced more open world (in fact the zones are bigger than gw2 zones)
The combat us better (though not as good as gw2 and no doubt ps2)
The pvp is better, but again not as good as gw2
The dungeons are really good, probably best dungeons ever.
The story to me is more imersuve than swtor or gw2, because you agent one of thousands of "special ones, destined by fate to save the world", also I prefer character being silent, nothing breaks immersion like when I talk with an American accent.
You see other players, and the game doesn't grind to halt when you see other players.
There is a day night cycle, ambient effects etc.. the world is much more alive.
You xp faster and get more loot by grouping.
You can't mob steal, everyone gets credit.

ArenaNet actually came from Blizzard, and is very independant from NCSoft. NCSoft takes a hands-off approach to ArenaNet, it shows as NCSoft's other titles are all very, very different from ArenaNet's.

I tried to like the game and I really wanted to but I just felt detached from the whole thing, starting with cutscenes galore put me off straight away, if it had just plopped me into the world and let me find my way around seoul or whatever other city it would have been better. The cutscenes for me detract from the game, I felt like I was playing a single player game for the first couple of hours, skipping the cutscenes makes me paranoid I will miss something too.

The combat was OK for me, the world looked nice enough but something just felt off, I wasn't immersed at all I didnt feel any need to log back in and play either.

It is an OK game, if it was a Buy2Play I would 100% get it, but as a subscription & cash shop I just can't justify it, I used to laugh at free2play or buy2play games but nowadays so many of them offer much better value and much better gaming.

Can't say I'm particulary impressed over what I've seen the past two days I've been in the beta.  Character creation is shallow, with too few options and strongly reminded me of SWToR's lackluster character creation.  I've seen plenty of glitchy graphics, and I find the controls rather clunky, the cutscenes are well done except I find my character just sits or stands there, not speaking or moving like he's trapped in some sort of trance.   Most of all I really despise the combat.  The firearms have much too short a range (seriously, you have to be close enough to spit on something to shoot it with a pistol), and you are either being swarmed by mutliple mobs or being pounded by one or two big ones.    You pretty much have to resort to constant backpedalling to stay out of melee range which usually results in you bumbling into another group of mobs and having to fight off a bigger swarm.  Also, are you seriously telling me it takes ten shots from a pistol to take down a single zombie that's an arms length from me?

I do like the concept of the skill wheel rather than the traditional leveling system, and the voice overs are well done.  Other than that I can't really see anything in the game to interest me in buying it.  Glad I was able to get a free beta key rather than have to do a preorder.

What he said is still true: NCsoft may or may not take a handsoff approach towards ANet much like Vivendi or Activision might take a handsoff approach to Blizzard, but ArenaNet is still a part of NCsoft. They can't just up and leave. While EA is merely the publisher for FC's TSW, they're still independent and could decide to have another publisher for their other games however they like.

I can agree with this, but this started with the relationship between Funcom and EA and I was just pointing out that there is a much stronger relationship between NCsoft and Anet than EA and Funcom.

Like most of you been in so many betas.. then the open ones. This open one I as of right now am STILL trying to play. Keep telling me my Nvidia 680 or ATI 6870 had outdated drivers.. ok. Could not play more then 1-5min before a crash. I Know its beta yet very very close to launch and I have never had a beta crash this many times. Then out of no where it can't seem to find "localconfig.xml" or some name like that yet its there. You have no way of fixing this ONE file. You can not start any part of the game with out it.

So I find someone up'd theirs. Now it wants to scan the game to make sure everything is ok. You have to say yes.. and now I am downloading 5-6 gigs more. From my wonderful 5min of play its not very fluid. Seems clunky. Some NPC girl keeps calling me by a girls name. My shootgun is so easy has no kick what so ever. Combat is ...well so far all think its bad.

You know has FUNCOM written all over it. Well Age of Conan. That game ran better in beta then this. So far I have no clue if this is pay to play or free. I am guessing PAY. WHO would pay for this? GW2 is more fun. And dx11.. ok.

Anyway you have to forgive me on this .. its based on watching vids.. that look better then the game and playing 5min at tops every time. This is so not ready for launch. Another shove out the door mmo that wont do good 4-8 months from now. And I don't care if you like it.. you should not be paying for this. Your money is worth more.

Only thing good to ever come out of Funcom is Anarchy Online. That's still true after TSW.

Clunky, poorly optimized, terrible combat system, and uninspiring story. Storyline was an obvious mash of popular stories/situations from other games. All in all, was not impressed and not surprised.

P.S. Anyone that says GW2 is a WoW clone has obviously not played GW2, WoW, or either.
