Hm.

Ok I see they really made some good improvements, better visuals, animations and even sounds.

But overall, what really drives me away is combat. Sorry, it is just way too... boring, acutally. You have those 1,2,3 rotation, usually only 1,2 and some rare extra, then ALWAYS circling around the enemy, and the bosses have this nasty Super-Mario consoleish reaction game, where you need to know what the boss does when, which just drives me nuts, since you can not rez, you can not return to an ongoing combat, and thats just BULLSHIT IN BOTTLES.

The combat is just so nauseatingly boring, sorry. I love the mystery setting and world, but this is by far the most boring combat I have seen in a MMO in a long time. I really was thinking to buy this, out of boredom mostly, but now... I am quite sure to pass this. It just makes playing too much like a chore.

The reason why i love it, i had to actually think and use my head in combat, i died a lot but after 2 or 3 tries i was successful.A nice break from other MMOS.

Pft, I hate it when a game makes me think. It always makes me so... tired.

I rather want to drink and play not think and play! Prost! :D

A forum is a place where people can discuss about different opinions. So what I don't get is, how people react offended when they come to a forum and then find... well different opinions. If a different opinion offends you, what are you even doing here?

TSW has a very interesting setting, one that really hasn't been done in a mmo before and that alone makes it worth a look. I think clinging to the subscription model is going to potentially hurt the game in the long run though. Especially with GW2 being B2P. It'll be interesting to see how TSW fares in the current market.

We know the game is not releasing with any raids, and there are supposed to be 8 5-man dungeons with 3 difficulty levels, though the hardest difficulty levels appear to require grinding talents from the wheel and certain types of gear to be done. Apart from that, there are 8 zones and of course PvP. We also have a developer presentation saying that there are about 150 hours of questing content, not including repeatables. This may sound like a reasonable amount for a month or two, but when you're paying a sub, how long can this last?

When I pay a sub, I expect content, and content is generally consumed faster than they make it unless they add a grind, which seems to be unlocking the skill wheel and clothing dropped from dungeons in TSW.

Never seen that. I think it was stated 200 hours. 600 hours to complete all abilities and skills.

As a pvpr battle grounds warzone(s) and fight clubs coupled with the build counter build meta game will keep me occupied for at least 10 months. Hell the RIFT talent trees and pvp kept me that long. No I'm talking 0 updates 10 months minimum. Add in updates, and you have me considering a life time.

Exactly. I personaly feel the combat is very visceral. You see where the Axe hits, and where the bullet hits. And blood spurts from that point. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Can't wait till the FRAPS start coming out, because I really think "I don't like the combat" "I don't like the animations" mostly comes from agendas but w/e.

I don't like the animations, in or out of combat.  It's not my fault, I just don't like them.  For a 2012 game, they look very dated and almost an afterthought in their current form.  Trust me, there are things about TSW that seem really cool to me.  I want this game to do well.  Funcom has gotten quite a bit of $ from me for AoC.  So it's definitely not an "agenda".  Not in my case :p  cya.

Dude that's fair. No problem with that. It's not for your taste, okay. I'm not telling you to like them. You said "There is no reason mmos can't have animations like single player games"

This is not fair. I think the animations are the best thing going next to swtor (I hate swtor) Better than WoW,RIFT, and GW2. imo. Those 3 are more of the same just newer iterations of the same. It's the same fantasy shooting over your shoulder and bigger brighter EXPLOSIONS.

Peace out man have a good one ;)

I wasn't gonna reply, but "dude" "man" wtf?  don't presume to know a person's gender. ;p  /exits this thread.

EDIT~ "You said "There is no reason mmos can't have animations like single player games"" btw, that was someone else..

pie.

150 hours of main storyline game play for each faction.

Edit: Here is a more in depth one about it.

http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=28337

ZAM: All right, well, I'm going to jump right in! Most of my focus will be on things we didn't see today and things that we haven't heard much about in recent interviews, so let's get to it! During the presentation we were told that The Secret World would have 150 hours of questing in the game at launch. Are we talking main storyline only here, or story quests and side quests included as well?

Martin: There are many more hours of content in the game. The 150 references the story missions, basically. Of course, this doesn't mean just doing story mission quests - mission after mission nonstop - it means doing the story missions while following the progression of the game. If you're just a new player and you go to Egypt, for instance, you'll probably get killed fairly quickly because the monsters there are stronger. Because as you play the game, you'll notice that you're getting better and better gear and you're naturally progressing. So those 150 hours reference just the story missions while following the progression.

SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever!

That's the story alone. There are 4 different types of missions. So there is much more than 150 hours of quests.

Didn't we have threads saying the same thing about TOR?

I've put about two hours into the game now.

My question is.... What, is, this game?

Is this going to be just a Raid game? Funcom going to just put out different crazy goofy raid romps as content updates?

Or is this a... linear story-driven game that the updates will be more linear paths down story-lane. Like little mini DLC adventures.

The game is clearly not a sandbox and will clearly not be going down any form of a sandboxy element... not even Rift or GW2 dynamic events seem like they'll fit into TSW.

I'm guessing this is just another Raid game, but its hard for me to tell right now.

Likes so far:

The world is attractive, the enviroments are detailed.

The cinematics are entertaining.

The music is good.

The sound/voice acting is great.

The UI for speaking to NPCs.

Dislikes so far:

Combat. period.

Character animations are so freaking lame its hard to fathom this could be allowed past the internal testing phases.

Character Creation / Design.  How do you take AoC's designer and then make it far more crappy? How, do, you, do that.

Character doesn't make a f'ing NOISE. Not even when a pack of zombies is beating the crap out of them.  Not even a single BREATH sound effect ever comes out of your dead silent character.   I find that really freaking lame.

All other UI elements are bothersome so far.  Especially those related to skills.

Additonal thoughts:

I just finished Saints Row 3 last night and considering its a game that allows you to create a far more detailed and awesome looking character of your own tastes... has amazingly smooth animations and extremely entertaining combat... and is also set in modern time, I have a hard time not comparing TSW to SR3.  And SR3's developers are just flat out more talented and better trained than the folks at Funcom who're responsible for TSW.

OH my god dude, I tottally agree with you on these points. You really had me laughing at this post. I will say though it surprised me when I started to play this game and the character creation design was so limited kind of felt heartbroken from that point on. However I quickly tried to give this game a chance even though I remember how bad of a joke Funcom did with AoC. Honestly I went in with an open mind just to see my open mind close and later after two days of playing this beta I just completely uninstalled this massive GB of junk.
