I am trying to settle an argument. I want to leave SWTOR and go back to Rift. Brother wants to go back to EQ2. We both enjoy both titles, but with SOEmote, brother thinks EQ2 will be better. I think Rift is better, less explored of the two and new expansion coming out and Trion a better gamer company than SOE. Which MMO is better between the two when taking all things into consideration? Everquest 2 or Rift?

Rift Only areas EQ2 is better in is crafting. EQ2 blows Rift away in this category. ...and of course amount of content. If you can stomach the gameplay in EQ2. EQ2 has one of the worst f2p designs I have ever seen as well. 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |

Every single person I know that left eq2 to go play rift has come back to eq2. I don't know any of them that stayed with rift. A handful eventually left rift and went to swtor, and those showed up this week wanting back in guild. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence until you get bored.

While EQ2 has more content, I think RIFT has better content. |

I've played both and think Rift is a much better game and will get even better when the xpac drops. You can still play EQ2 as it's ftp,you may need to spend a little at first but then you can basically play free. Now if you want to raid then you would want to sub for the use of better gear/spells.
I'd still choose Rift though by far. |

Both are crap in my opinion - where's the "other" option of your poll? |

Basic mmorpg with fancy graphics, good PvP etc = go for Rift Huge mmorpg, great community, "deep" game with crafting, housing and everything = EQ2
I have played both up to highest level, so I would say EQ2 (in my opinion), but you have to try before you judge! Download the Rift trial and try it out up to level 20, or download the free EQ2 client and play there also. THEN you can decide which game you want to pick! |

If you like raiding EQ2 has a pretty strong end game community. Rift's end game community seems a bit less well formed probably because you can do pretty well in that game never really interacting with the community (dungeon finder, solo content, PVP queuing, etc.). You hit a wall pretty fast in EQ2 unless you want to join up with others. Technically Rift is probably a better game and definently more solo friendly but EQ2 has a ton more content and better formed end game community IMO. |

Play both, since they are both free (Rift up to a certain level of course). I'd definitely look into the new Rift expansion which will be coming out soon, it definitely looks exciting. Here is a nice preview, it makes me want to come back and play once it comes out. |

Rift, theyre both essentialy the same game, but rift has more players. Mind if that was your concern I guess you'd be playing wow.

61% Rift in the lead. Good. Why anyone would support Sony is behind me. They are a notch below EA in my book. Also, careful when you mention EQ or Vanguard. Sony seems to have the largest amount of fanbois. Not sure why, but it's true. |

Originally posted by donjn I love Everquest 2, but that does not make me a fanboy. Sony is treating their playerbase very wrong and is one of the worst companies I have ever met when it comes down with listening to community. BUT, even if the company is bad, you can't turn your face and say that their games are also bad. I play Everquest 2 because of the game, not because of Sony. Without Everquest 2, I wouldn't be there providing them with money. The best way is, as I see it, to ignore a company that do not listen and have a great time in the game instead. |
