Sincerelly, I see a lot fo people saying this game is an "evolution" and not a "Revolution". Well, guys, the fish now have legs, it is evolution, right, but there is a new world for explore and conquer, the dry land... The events are scrypted, that makes GW2 a themepark, but it is a diferent themepark from all other we know, the fish now have legs. Sorry to say it, I am sure I will piss the naysayers, but the world REALLY CHANGES, the level 15-25 zones had all places owned by mobs last BW1... now at BW2, with more players at 20+, I just saw level 15-25 zones with more player dominated places. I was happy seeing that that big centaur fortress being human owned at BW2, for me it was impossible to take it at BW1, few players at that zone for help it. The only problem is mantaining it human owned, the centaurs periodically make a raid for try retake it. My guess? With player population more evenly distributed from level 1 to 80 we will see a lot of zones at constant flux, places changing from player owned to mobs onwed frequently. But at launch we will just see a "wave" of players conquereing places from level 1 to level 80 zones... Anyway, you need remember that "sandbox" it is not the same than PvP game, if Syncaine can admit it why you cannot? Sanbox=PvP is a mistake that ever will make the sandbox MMO a niche game (yes, Darkfall will ever be a niche game, sorry). Sandbox isn't the same than PvP, please see "A Tale in the Desert" (and it is more niche than Darkfall because PvE is only crafting). Most players are not hard PvPers, the hard PvPers can be more vocal, but they are not more than a minority. I think it is interesting everyone forget that at EVE, 80% of players never get out 1.0 to 0.8 systems, that says a lot about what is wrong with sandbox MMO but people don't like the truth. I can foresee they will add a lot of new features at future expansions, And everyone can see that they have expansions planned, there new races scattered all places (frog people, polar bear people, tengu) waiting for expansions. So, GW2 launch will be just the start, the fish with legs will explore a new world. It is not hard for them add some real sandbox elements to this game, there are full continents waiting next expansions and a lot of places for put "player cities" and "guild halls". Themepark games as Aion added player houses at first expansion, and it is a game from NCsoft, that owns Anet. If Anet wants it (and if they feel players want it), they can add player houses and player cities and guild houses at future expansions, for add some "sandbox' features. They are using NCsoft engine, anyway. People, just evolve, if you cannot adapt you will go extint. It is not the same themepark everyone knows. The fish have legs and it will wander to places where the MMO we know cannot go. |

Be scared? Is it going to come to my house, slap me in the face and call me Sassypants? That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming! |

This game is only a filler for me, it's really not that good and definitely nowhere near an esport/competetive game.
Planet Side 2, Darkfall 2, World of Darkness! |

Originally posted by botrytis I would call the hearts quest hubs in a sense and in fact they even have the recommended level for the Hearts on the map, hardly sandbox, what game did you play this weekend? Posts like the OPs are really out of touch with reality, this game in no way shape or form is sandbox, no open world PvP, structured PvP instead, more like WoW and Rift then you might want to believe. |

Originally posted by dontadow well if they expand the worlds in the WvWvW it will be a proper sandbox ..!
my ideal it would be all these castles/ forts/ supplies to exist in the whole world and the combat it wouldnt be between worlds but between guilds (if one of your guilds you are representing is in war with an other then you wont be able to join friend guilds of your enemy and if one of your guilds become friend with the enemy then it will pop up an option to choose side ..! ) and the whole fight would be supported by the 3 major Orders ..! then it would be a proper SANDBOX and the cities would gain life just cause then it would be a true safe and relaxing zone ...

This sandbox mania starts to be quite annoying. It's like being sandbox makes you instantly the best game ever according to these forums ... ***** Before hitting that reply button, please READ the WHOLE thread you're about to post in ***** |

To those that say GW2 has nothing to do with sandbox games or has no sandbox elements because everything is scripted I can only say the following: - all games are "scripted". - even games you are building the buildings yourself like Anno or Civilization or some mmos lets you only build on certain areas because these areas are scripted for that. Same goes with sandbox based mmos like Wakfu or others that let you plant a tree only on certain spots, plant crops in a "field" and so on. Archage will have a similar system aswell. - GW2 will feature guild halls similar to GW1 on which you can "Build" a guild bank, hire merchants that will be in your guild hall and more - Housing that will come with a expansion since they can't make it with it in the release will give you the possibility to decorate your own house among other things So there are some sandbox elements in GW2 and more will come in the future. No mmo will let you build on its whole world on any spot you like cause by the amount of players it would lead to a total mess up (has also proven so in the past in some that attempted it).

Originally posted by Raekon Of course all games are scripted. However, the difference is that a village attacked by centaurs during a dynamic event will always be attacked by and only by those same centaurs. The vilagers won't try to improve defenses, nothing. It's just a by loop. That's not bad for a themepark. But contrast that with a player created village. If it was attacked by centaurs, players can rebuild it in another location, safe from attacks and use defenses. If DE and housing make GW2 a sandbox, then Rift's one too. |
